The Unofficial High Elf Discussion Megathread

I mean I like it, but it’s not surprise that the Silver Covenant remains the most alliance biased group within Dalaran; they are the ones that have refused to go neutral since WotLK. It makes sense it is SC mages the ones holding the portal to Stormwind.

What I am unsure is if Dalaran is supposed to have returned to Northrend and this is the present Dalaran portal in lore - it makes no sense lorewise to have the old portal on the Portal Room and the Legion one somewhere else- It’s a weird bit, but I think that at least we are led to assume that who is holding the portal is there in the “present” which makes Forsaken Argent Mages hold the Horde one pretty interesting, as it implies the Horde doesn’t have a group in Dalaran to do that.

Seems that the Forsaken forces allowed in the Windrunner Sancturay are gond, but, are the Sunreavers still allowed in Dalaran? One would expect them to hold the portals open if they were. Or they are allowed in the city, but have limited privileges and can only remain in the city on a neutral status and not as an Horde force?

Pure guess here, but maybe Dalaran left the Broken Isles once Suramar became Horde-aligned, to avoid attrition.

Dalaran is back to neutrality, but closer to Alliance.

The Sunreavers are probably still in Dalaran, but don’t have the same prestige as before the Purge. They avoid bringing Horde interests to the city, acting way more neutral than before.

OPTIONAL ELF FACTION

Tyrande decides to break off from the alliance. at the same time, Thalyssra and Lor’themar have a long discussion about Sylvannas’ behavior and decide to leave the horde, forming a new elven faction in a smaller version of suramar, separated into elf districts (each with their own banners, colors and guards, specific to their race).

When thalyssra hears tyrande has left the alliance, she sends an emissary with an olive branch inviting the night elves to form an elven faction in the nightborne city of suramar. The alliance allow alleria to be entrapped into knifu, essentially sacrificing her for the greater good, causing the void elves to abandon the alliance as well. Upon hearing this, the now 3 elven race faction, invites the void elves.

to keep it optional the alliance and horde would have to nominate new leaders for the vacated spots. so they would still have the option to continue on with the horde or alliance if they wanted to

Into this mix we could add Talendrion’s half elves.
And to whet your whistle… a boat ride thru suramar

I’d throw female casting in there as well. Can’t stand seeing my mage standing on one foot to throw her fireball. It’s silly.

From a lore perspective there is some credibility to that idea. From a game play perspective it’s a sh*tshow.

The game wasn’t built to integrate a third faction.

You can have a good lore behind it, something similar as the factions would be in their worst state after BfA and they went to recruit and solidify relations with their oldest allies in order to deal with the world threatening foes.

The Void Elves surely weren’t written in months or years, i give weeks.

True. It’s pretty clear Blizzard had no idea where that story was going.

Better than nothing.

I suspect that they had High Elves planned during Legion as they were heavily teased on it, but weeks before the blizzcon the high command said no, hence why Ion had such a position against them in the first Q&A’s of BfA while in the most recent ones they didn’t even mention them anymore, but in a good way, i rather have them not mentioning them than saying no, at least it keeps the matter open. After all the backlash from the community i understand why they changed their position from “no” to “don’t lose hope”.

Back again to continue my support and dream of a high elf playable race for Alliance.

Yeah, it’s how I feel as well.

I think the return of Alleria would spark a reunion of high elves around her. There was a story arc around retrieving Alleria all over Legion but not a single hint about void elves. Vereesa was a key player over the entire Legion storyline, and the Silver Covenant had a role in Suramar in which all elves participated (two of them playable at the time, the third one becoming playable later, so high elves stand as the odd one out).

Alleria meddling with the void seems to be a story long in the making (first hint being way back in WoD), but Umbric and his followers were completely pulled out of nowhere, as if only to give Alleria like-minded followers, while Vereesa, Arator and the Silver Covenant, very present over Legion, just disappeared suddenly.

Alleria was probably going to be the high elf leader. Her void powers would probably be explored in other ways. Her looks and gear all are about high elven heritage, not mingling well at all with void elf aesthetics.

Due to how game development works, I think the decision to make the allied race system came somewhere in the middle of Legion (I presume it was defined between Beta and 7.1, when the first hints of nighborned going Horde started to appear), but the high elves were scrapped and replaced by void elves near the end of 7.3 patch. By that point, it was too late to change Alleria’s look. Also, because the decision came so late, the void elves couldn’t be properly seeded, and their background and aesthetics were defined only later.

I understand and agree you don’t feel powerful standing on one foot, but defiently male version is worse out of all races!

I wonder how high elves would be received if they didn’t have paladins.

I would be thoroughly disappointed but I can live with that.

They’ll have to have Paladins! Theirs already High Elf Paladins in the game!.

I think the biggest discussion would be should they have Druid or Shaman or Both classes to make them different from Void and Blood Elves.

druid I am not sure on. Personally I don’t want it. However I believe they should get shamans. Having an elf shaman would be very unique and there is precedent for it because they could have learned from the wildhammer.

Speaking of the wildhammer I believe they should get druids. There are mentions of druid like wildhammer in old lore. They spoke with nature and not the elements. No mentions of shapeshifting and such but they could easily expand this. I would love to have dwarf druids. Imagine the celtic markings of the druid forms along with long braids of fur.

Well High Elves and Wildhammer Dwarves are the top 2 races I want playable, but I agree with you 10000% Wildhammer should also be Druids aswell as Shamans, being Druids will make them different to the other Clans.

And Yes to High Elf Shamans, thats my dream!
