The Unofficial High Elf Discussion Megathread

Because of the alignment from High Elves to the thalassian aesthetic.

Fair point.

I mean it could work in some way for Half Elves. But in terms of Pure White High Elves probably not. Because then you’ll run into the same situation like Blood Elf Players wanting Brown/Black skin tones even through they’re suppose to be a Thalassian Race of Magic Elves with Reddish/Sometimes White Skin.

It clashes a bit with my outfit, but I have in the past. I’ve opted to go with a literal ‘axe’ transmog as it still works - “Beware the Viking God of Rock! For with the power of my Mighty Axe… I RULE!”

The females basically use the same models aside from face and ears.

The males are just skinnier.

Both use different animations.

So all we really need is some tweaks and some new animations in addition to new customizations to make them on par with Nightborne in terms of differences.

Or we could just use the Night Elf model. Nozdormu is a good example.

Ehh, not really a fan of the NE model idea, HE and BE are sister races, is more logical that they use the same model with modifications. I’m not really a fan of the night elf model, it’s actually the only thing that keep me away from playing a NE or a Nightborne, their bodies are weird, most of the animations suck and they have a serious lack of customization options. If blizzard ever decides to rework a existing race model i hope it be night elves and nightborne, they seriously need some attention.

I’m sorry, but it’s not, there are like 6 people arguing over and over with the same arguments over and over making personal attacks over and over with pointless claims and assumptions without something canon to back them… over and over. Both sides. I think we are supposed to discuss High Elves on the High Elf Discussion Thread, but for some reason people avoid this thread as if they are not allowed to post here or something, idk.

Well the Nozdormu model looks fine for its age.

They don’t have to make it a perfect match, they can change proportions and they can easily add new animations.

I’m just talking as a base to start with.

They want an echo chamber instead of actual discussion.

Otherwise there would be no reason not to have the discussion here.

They even told people to get out and post in this thread when they disagreed with them.

Troll propaganda.

wowwiki /night elf

Troll papa

Void Elves weren’t an intention to troll anyone?

Wow. If you really believe that then I have a bridge to sell you.

Meh, the whole purpose of that thread is to flame people who want high elves.

Yeah, basically the nightbourne are highborne while highborne are among the night elves. So it is pretty much the same as high elves and blood elves. They are both Quel’dorei, which just means high elves. Yet blood elves took a new name and split off from high elves.

The actual reasons for the debate are meaningless now; With Nightborne on the Horde and Void Elves on the Alliance, and Pandaren on both, the lines are already “blurred.” This is not the point; Blizzard can come up with whatever retconned reason they want—they just don’t want to. I find this disappointing, because a LOT of their fans/players want this to happen. I really don’t feel there would be detriment to the game for this.

Its why we keep this one civil, no?

Yes they were all part of that same overarching caste.

Even if the Shen’dralar are still apart of the night elves; they didnt seem to have an impact upon the night elven persona or outward culture. Even in the nightborn recruitment mission…there is no mention of the Shendralar, they dont really appear in Legion outside of the Kirin Tor.

I just generally believe that they were written largely in Cata, just to give Night elves playable mages and then just forgot about them to not dilute the dichotomy of night elves being woodsy and druidic to the blood elves being magical.

I disagree with this. It had an impact, beginning with night elf mages becoming available, and later being important in Pandaria’s night elf arc in Pandaria. Also, the induction of the shen’dralar is what caused Maiev to go bonkers, a story that has been glossed over and barely mentioned when Blizzard brought her back in Legion.

The reason it does not seem that important is just that Blizzard never really stopped to showcase the night elves that much. Night elves are mostly used as generic troops, with the ocasional druid.

Night elves are a race notoriously ignored by Blizzard. Yes, featured a lot, but not really explored. They’ve been defanged for years and turned into “purple high elves” (same fate now awaiting the void elves, it seems). But that’s because Blizzard has been very bad at exploring any Alliance race that isn’t humans.

Yes, and everything Cataclysm.

Debateable, but Ill generally give you this point.

Mostly because the book was Wolfheart.

No, I really think Void Elves are a result of the Developers misinterpreting what players wanted when they were asking for High Elves. They intended to deliver something they felt was objectively, ‘Better,’ than High Elves. That’s how I saw it at least. The issue is, ‘Better or Worse,’ will always be subjective.

That’s the problem with Blizzard sometimes. When they “listen” to player requests, their attempts to implement them often miss the mark they were intended to hit. Spectacularly in some cases.
