The Unofficial High Elf Discussion Megathread

Perhaps the low count on the number of posters is due to this being I think the 7th or 8th Mega Thread in support of playable High Elves in the Alliance. And many people may have already said what they wanted to say in one of the other Mega Threads? More over unless you are also going to take into account the threads asking for playable High Elves in the Alliance on the various EU forums, MMO-C forums, and the like you will never get an accurate count of just how many players desire to have the race made playable. Just a thought.

If we’re being honest here - there probably aren’t that many people who are against High Elves. Most people probably won’t care or will be happy about it.

That’s just my assumption anyway :woman_shrugging:

Eh, I don’t know if I agree with that. At least in these forums, evidently, there are plenty of people against High Elves. I do agree that most of the playerbase doesn’t care either way

Well that’s kinda what I’m saying. The majority of people probably won’t really care at all.

Reddit seems to really want High Elves though from all of the posts I’ve seen.

That’s honestly wonderfully put and very appreciated. It’s interesting to see the divisiveness happens on your side too. What are your communities reasons for not wanting high elves implemented? Are they the same as our own? I would love to know what’s going on in your end of the world over this topic, and I’m glad we’re seeing this issue in a relatively same light.

Another thing that makes this so interesting is Blizzards ability (if they wish to) harness the disdain people have for High Elves and turn that into the ability to actually allow you to join the horde in attacking the helf players and further encouraging… Well, you know, the faction war.

Also, as promised in my earlier post regarding the EU community feedback, here’s the QA they had. Credit goes to the same guy as in my first post.

High Elven Community FAQ

CLAIM :There aren’t enough High Elves left, I thought?[quote]

The Silver Covenant, the militarized organization of Dalaran High Elves (which have recently been clarified as being more numerous than once thought), have been present for many of the Alliance’s military operations in the past several expansions and have consistently fielded numbers that would suggest there are plenty of them left.

Similarly, Quel’Danil lodge in the Hinterlands and the Allerian Stronghold in Outland both show other independently organized High Elf forces that are not suffering in numbers.

In addition, Stormwind has its own High Elf population. There is more than enough evidence to suggest High Elves have enough numbers to be appropriate for an Allied Race, especially compared to what has been shown as appropriate for other examples such as the Lightforged or the Void Elves.

Source: In-game representation, out of game official canon text such as Chronicle Vol 3

CLAIM : I don’t want to see any more elves in this game!”
This is a subjective opinion, and a valid one, but not a reasonable argument against other people’s ability to ask for what they would also subjectively like to see.

CLAIM : Void Elves are the substitute
Void Elves were specifically and deliberately set up as being recent exiles from Silvermoon among the Blood Elf population. Their presence does not continue the separate High Elf story in any way and thus is not a reason for them not to be added.

CLAIM: High Elves = Blood Elves = Void Elves
Both the in-game lore and the out of game official canon texts have very clearly set up the Thalassian elves as a split people, and the themes of mutual High Elf and Blood Elf resentment for each other is what led to the creation of the Silver Covenant in the first place. Furthermore, Chronicle has drawn further attention to the fact on some level this split was in the process of happening before Kael’Thas even renamed those who followed him to Blood Elves: tensions existed between the High Elves who chose to live in Dalaran and those who lived in Silvermoon, the latter considering the former to prefer the company of humans over the love of their own homeland.

Sources: In-game representation and lore as presented through Alliance questing, as well as out-of-game official canon text such as Chronicle Vol 3.

CLAIM : High Elves will cause population bleed on Horde side.
Considering Allied Races have so far required extra steps, such as having a max level character on the appropriate faction and gating behind reputations, along with the fact that Allied Races also have restricted class options (Death Knight and Demon Hunter are both very popular classes and would likely not be available), this outcome is unlikely. Adding to that, the fact that Horde edges out Alliance population-wise slightly at max level, and the fact that Void Elves, which brought the Blood Elf model to the Alliance to begin with, did not impact overall faction balance, and this is very likely not a very serious concern.

Lol I have notice that; Reddit really seems far more positive towards High Elves hehe

I thought it was the other way around since almost alot of people on there hates High Elves.

For your first question, in CN forum the discussion are more based on logic and we has defined a point “biological High elf is not means political High elf”, there’re nothing argument on it.

Actually from my prospective the people against high-elf here are mostly based on “they’re part of the horde since TBC already” and “ever since sunwell restored there’re no reason for HE to cooperate with these potential threat void elf, and they should escape back to silvermoon”, and when arguing on this, we always use the truth that HE npc are standing with VE npc in Stormwind and political divisive are always bigger than life style problem as a counter point.

But the biggest counter-argument here are from these already lost hope: Ok Blizzard really care about their horde customers been hurt and looks like the Alliance is inferior players in this game, so admit it they would never come.

Yeah, you heard me, the HE problem is not core argument in CN discussion but definitely another evidence of Blizzard’s horde bias exist.

it is almost a common ground here to say Blizzard don’t like Alliance, and Blizzard think “them-self like the horde” but terrible writing story and the intention to re-deem a Hitler like character make a large number of lore-loving horde player in CN feel insulted, really insulted.

For your second problem, we don’t really think Blizzard do it just in case of ‘let BE player to have a living target to aim with’.
this opinion not quite exist here.

A common opinion here it Blizzard afraid adding HE would hurt their horde player base but the compromise they put out are actually an insult for Alliance player base.

When first HE MAGA thread been created, would you believe that the shocking delivered all across the pacific to “end of the world eastern”?
as you discussion growing heat, the support voice for HE here also rise to a very high level, I would say for our culture it is not very common to expressing support to a thing so loudly, but it happened.

And then as the interview conducted, all the player here are saying “it is the first time we meet this gentleman Ion hazzikostas?” and when interview been transfer to Chinese the forum exploded as well, and Alliance here almost consider it an insult on the face.

And there is nothing different of things go, just like you guys, a lot of people just don’t have so much of time to spending on voice them-self days and night, it is a game all in all.

But what I want to say to you, all of you, is, we, high-elf community is a minor group in WOW, but we definitely not a “minority” like somebody keep claiming, a ‘minority group’ wont keep fighting for 13 years and the voice spread all across the world literally, we are a minor group like these only PVP, only PVE, only play pokemon or else, frustrations would hit us hard, but can’t voice our opinion day and night doesn’t mean we don’t exist, I hope Blizzard could understand it. if they does then one day it would be a possible way out for all these chaos.

A solution that could really been considering as “compromise”.

I wouldn’t even say these forums are that negative. It’s the same 3-5 people who are bent on making sure the silver covenant (and other) high elves remain as npcs instead of having a people play them.
Because that…makes total sense for some reason.

That being said, don’t ever go to the mmochamp forums, it’s a giant cesspool of circlejerking diehard horde fans that pretty much bash anything that’s related to alliance, be it high elves or anything really.

Yea. I have been there and it was kind of like a living hell. I mean both websites Reddit and MMO Champion are bad but MMO Champion is by far the worst.

Its basically a website where all the jerkwad Horde Fanboys go and pretty much bash and belittle anyone who is Alliance Player or Alliance Faction in general. If you even try to support anything that is High Elf or Warcraft 2 Race related. They’ll jump on you and continue to harass and insult you until you ether get harassed off the website or banned for ether speaking out against the hypocrites or just banned in general by the Moderators who go after the abused and harassed users and Alliance players in general rather than banning the Trolls or toxic horde fanboys. This is my experience after dealing with those kinds of people almost a daily basis and pretty much a whole year.

Been there into that terrible hellish website and never again.

As jerky as some of the Anti people can be, let’s remember to not take this to a personal level.

Despite MMO-C’s forums being very virulent towards requests for high elves, five years ago I made a poll there and was able to gather almost 2,000 votes.

https://www.mmo-champion.com/threads/1378408-Playable-High-Elves-in-the-Alliance-The-Poll

39.11% wanted high elves.
40.07% were against it.
20.80% didn’t care.

That poll alone shows how strong the want for high elves is and how long people have been wanting them.

Typical of the fanatical Helfer fans to drag their alliance victimhood here too. The ‘woe is me’ ‘Horde players are jerks’ always comes to the surface despite being reminded that most people play both factions and you were told to be respectful.
Just adding my little voice here to say I believe the Alliance fan bois demanding playable Blood…er High Elves for their faction is only trying to take another Blood Elf look again from the Horde. You have Void Elves if you want our look and you should not get another.
:-1:t6:

Who says it was ever yours to begin with? High elves have been a part of the alliance longer and still exist in the form of NPCs.
