The UI Is The Final Straw For Me

Then I hope you find a game you enjoy.

There are already addon makers remaking those. Give them time Lodge being one of them

YES!! This exactly… I messed around and sort of put it back to the old UI but I still wish for the old one. Changes like this send my Autism sailing over the edge, you can make fun of me for it but it is a real struggle for something to change this drastically for me. I have one real complaint, the buttons for the hunter tools (pet commands and call pet) are both starting with an open up arrow so the choices go in a line up and than after playing for a little it changes the direction and opens it down which cuts off the bottom 2 buttons. I will make due with the new UI but the pet commands and call pets button issue needs fixed!

Weird hill to die on.

If clicking and dragging is too much for you I think you need to lay down and take a nap lol

Without a toggle to use the old look there’s no amount of tinkering that will let me get it how I want. My dislike is not because I don’t understand how to edit the darned thing, it’s that I stuck to the default UI all these years for one reason and one reason alone, I strongly preferred the art. There were features I wanted, but to get them I would have had to give up the look of the player frame, target frame, minimap etc - so I instead “suffered” without those features. Instead I used the suggest feedback box and dropped suggestions like “please add more options to the default UI, such as being able to move more elements, let us pick growth direction on raid frames, more than 3 hots on raid frames”. I asked for more options, not for removing how the old UI looks.
I get it, for some of you it seems really silly that people like me get “this upset” about it. But it really did greatly deflate my desire for Dragonflight.

I’m sure there will soon be an addon to get to mimick the old. It just blows that now that most of those options I’ve desired to be part of the stock UI for years is here I’d have to give it up on order to stick to the visual look I so strongly prefer. It’s rather backwards! :joy:

I think that’s probably the bigger point. WoW should’ve contracted an existing reputable Addon developer like the ElvUI guys to revamp this mess.

The new UI is a shock to folks who were not expecting this sweeping change, and that’s unfortunate and probably could have been avoided.

It’s changing something that has (aside from shifting action bars around) has largely remained the same since 2004.

We did raise this issue in the beta feedback thread for the new UI, and suggested that the devs should implement both the old UI as well as leave the option to move to the new one when people are ready (which also relieves pressure on the devs still actively working on the new UI).

Don’t get me wrong: I’m a big fan of the new UI and every effort that Blizzard is putting into it. This has long since needed done and for me it’s honestly a highlight of the coming expansion.

However, the impact to the casual majority of players who don’t really track the beta/PTR changes and announcements should not be ignored.

I say this especially as a fan of the new UI, because I don’t want the devs discouraged by this feedback and feel the need to revert or make changes based on folks who would prefer the legacy UI.

We really do need the option of both, at least for a single expansion cycle (couple of years), both so that the entire player base can adapt to this change at their own pace, and also to give the devs time to continue refining the UI without the entire weight of the player base depending on it (add-ons aside).

Very well thought out post, the empathy of seeing the issues from multiple perspectives is really appreciated. Thanks

Finally some helpful commentary instead of the vitriol spewed by the elitist cake holes.

THAT was the issue for messing with Action Bar 1 being weird random sizes.

Now I have my three basic Bars bottom centre and nothing covering the chat window.

Still the “Classic” is nowhere near what the original interface looked like - Grade - Fail

It barely even changed though.

This is actually so funny to me. Every MMO to come out since, I dunno, 2008? has had customizable UIs. The options aren’t any different than SWTOR or FFXIV or (insert other MMO here). Will it take you some time to set up? Yes. But you can also just go find UI setups from other people you like, import their strings, and then tweak from there. That’ll save you time.

I haven’t played with the default UI since 2005 because I found it incredibly ugly, the layout was nonsensical, and I prefer to have all of my UI elements located centrally. I’ve been using ElvUI for years now, and I have tweaked it to perfection. I won’t be using the “new” UI because I already did the work to make my UI work for me. Had these options been in the game from the get-go, I’d probably have never used third-party addons.

And the menu Icons need to be a different damn color…go play on sand areas of the game you can barely see them when standing on sand…

When I was kid we had cars from the late 40s and 50s that were old but still ran. My aunt had a 1957 Chevy which was the car all the older kids were talking about.

New UI is exactly whats wrong with game devs for WoW. Try to fix something that isnt broken and make a headache for players

This new UI was a great idea. Weed out the players who are so bad that they can’t figure out something so simple like the new UI.

Yeah Errors from the UI and bugs like not able to use raid frames in arena is definitely my fault since I cant figure out how to recode the game.

It was absolutely necessary for them to update the UI to compete with all other MMO’s on the market. However, it’s pathetic and frankly lazy that they did not keep the old UI as an option. I can’t defend that

valid point

Goodness, people really are crying about this. The UI is absolutely nowhere near as bad as ANYONE is making it out to be. It’s not that difficult to figure out - it just takes more than 10 minutes. There’s even a default UI you can use.

If you really, seriously cannot figure it out, here’s my UI - it’s fairly basic and clean. You’re welcome.
