The Topic of Tinkers for 10.0

That’s part of the problem, though: All the class additions have been based on marketing rather than game design.

It’s why we have fewer ranged specs in the game now than we did in vanilla.

You don’t think that any decision can possibly fulfill both roles?

Let’s look at monks.

From a Marketing Perspective, they added a fun new class to play, with a unique aestetic. Which got new players interested.

From a Game design perspective, They allowed a new, Omni-Role class for most races that can fulfill 2 of the most desired roles in a group, opening up role opportunities considerably.

Tinker could be the same.

I fail to see your logic here.
Survival got changed to Melee. What does that have to do with Tinkers exactly?

Tinkers should have the ability to materialize a mech suit like Ironman does in Avengers Infinity War/Endgame.

They haven’t added any ranged specs to the game because ranged specs aren’t as easily marketed.

Badass dude who wades in swinging weapons with both hands appeals much more to gamers’ base instincts, so that’s what they went with. All three times.

That was a mistake in terms of game design, and has led to the shortage of ranged DPS in the playerbase (and overabundance of melee that nobody wants) that we face, to this day.

Exacerbating the situation by playing to the marketing department’s whims again would simply compound that issue.

A much better idea would be to add a ranged spec to Demon Hunters, who should have had one from the beginning. There’s plenty there thematically by focusing on eyebeams, thrown glaives, and whatever demonic magic they want to toss in. The trick would be to make it non-compete with other specs but I think the glaive “boomerang” aspect can play a role there, similar to Priest talent Falling Star’s mechanics. A targeted version would be interesting, although the skill cap for it is probably too high, especially considering the limitations of WoW’s tab targeting system.

A “Ranged Fel Caster” would intersect with the Fantasy of Warlock.

You look at this completely wrong.
All 3 Classes were based on Hero Units from Warcraft 3. So they use abilities from those hero units, and they’re all Melee.

Tinker wouldn’t have to be, not inherently.

How in specificity is it easier to Market a Melee class?

I specifically addressed this point, you just left it out of your quote.

Oh hai, I’ve been wondering where you have been :o

How have you been?

I forgot if by the time you left I was still saying tinkers suck or if I had already started agreeing with you :open_mouth:

Meezah my love!

I have been just swell. It’s good seeing you.

It doesn’t matter. I’m happy to see you regardless.
But it’s hard to argue with a new class that can be Ranged DPS, Healer, and Tank. It would please basically everyone, and people who want to play Melee DPS have enough options.

So, in your opinion, Melee is cooler?
Can you prove, Factually, that Melee is cooler? easier to market?

Good to hear! I’m happy to see you around again!

Actually, it’s very easy to argue why no new classes should be added at all, something the developers agree with.

You’re obsessing over mechanics when no classes are mechanically unique. They all share features and basically every spec is just a reskinned version of a build/spender. Mechanics can and are changed every expansion - I main spriest and we’ve played completely differently for each of the last three expansions.

Far more important is aesthetic uniqueness, and Tinker is the only possible class that has historical basis and would not infringe on any other class aesthetically. And they should continue to add classes - they’re fun to learn and revitalize interest in the game.

I have, thanks for the polite concession.

Because you don’t like fun? Or because you actually think things would improve with no new classes?

Wrath added a new class and had great class design.
Mop added a new class and had great class design.
Legion added a new class, and had great class design for some. A few bad eggs.

Source?

I support this class idea. I am just unsure if this will ever happen.

BFA Was a good opportunity, but clearly BFA was consumed by Allied Races.

Any expansion that focus on Azeroth and isn’t too cosmic in scale would be fine.
Besides, any time the Alliance and Horde interact, there’s bound to be Goblins and Gnomes.

You wound me. I like lots of Classes. I just want more!

I do hope that they don’t just make it gnomes vs goblins and actually allow others to join in on the tinkering mayhem.

Vulpera and panda tinkers! Why let the gremlins get all the explosions?

I think it would be best to play it loose with Class restrictions.

Obviously Goblins and Gnomes make sense, but one could argue for a lot of races.

Just make the Mechs all 1 uniform size, for game-play purposes.

I’m not entirely sure they’ll do mechs, but that’d be cool either way.

I’m expecting crazy nonsense like laser beams, grenades, turrets and some weird bombs like the stuff you encountered with that one island team.

Iunno, if Blizzard were to do mechs, it’d probably be a melee spec for tinkers, but I honestly don’t think we need more melee classes. I want to see more emphasis on ranged if we get any new classes, tinker or not. Maybe for a tank spec.

The Island Expedition teams had a Tank that rode around in a Shredder suit. That’s what im talking about

A Tank that uses intelligence as a primary stat, and pilots a robot to keep agro and mitigate.

Ranged DPS and Ranged Healer for the other specs.
We don’t need more Melee DPS.

are you operating under the belief that adding a class that can heal or tank will result in more people healing and tanking?

that hasn’t proven to be accurate in the past, what about tinkers would be different?
