The Topic of Tinkers for 10.0

Very good, and very valid.

I learn towards wanting necromancer more but I’m all for tinkers too.

Eject: When Tinker’s Mech is below 10% Health, the Tinker may eject, causing Tinker to fly up in the air as a last ditch effort to survive. Mech will self-destruct, causing large aoe damage. Tinker will have to wait for cooldown, before calling a new Mech.

Because they tried to turn bears into a dodge tank in Mists, same time they added Brewmaster, which is also a dodge tank (and remains one to this day).

The difference is that Brewmasters also have Stagger as a side-by-side mitigation mechanic. Always have, and still do.

Bears didn’t get that, and just had to make do with Savage Defense which was redesigned as a short-term rage spender to make dodge.

Being a dodge-only tank was terrible and everyone complained about being an “RNG tank”. You get 3 unlucky hits from the boss where you don’t dodge, and you’re dead.

They tried slapping a fix on by making Savage Defense also reduce all damage taken, but even baking in pure mitigation like that couldn’t solve the issue.

If the Stagger mechanic equivalent had been given to Druid instead of making Monks, then bears wouldn’t have to be in this constant ridiculous undevelopment cycle they’ve been in for years, now.

That’s why.

How? There’s a couple every day

Was talking about Liianas’ posts.

I didn’t. I still think it’s a terrible idea. lol

And that’s ok! We’re not all going to like the same things. Tinker is part of WoW. Tinker is all over WoW.

Always DH starting these threads.

A boring class is trying to breed for another boring class.

I would rather see a 4th spec than another class.

Priest - Void-based healing spec
Warlock - Give them back meta and make it a form for magical-melee spec
Mage - Blood or Time
Druid - none
Monk - Zealot (ranged dps)
Rogue - Dark Ranger/Ranger (ranged dps)
Demon Hunter - 2h polearm dps
Hunter - Bard
Shaman - Earth tank
Warrior - Gladiator (sword and board dps)
Paladin - Inquisitor (ranged dps)
Death Knight - Necromancer (ranged dps)

For Druid, consolidate Feral & Guardian back into one spec and make them a 3-spec class again.

And I think it should stay where it is or we’re going to end up with another two-race-only class that’ll piss people off. Not to mention, someone just tossing some bombs around or something isn’t a Tinker and I don’t see Blizz giving players a Mech, because then people will whine they’re too big, in the way, etc.

I’d love for a ranged Monk DPS, Shaman tank and DH should get a healing spec something like Rift’s old Defiler spec.

  • Specialization 1: Ranged DPS. Uses Bows, Guns, Crossbows, and Intelligence

Firstly, you’re going to have to accept the fact any class that uses Ranged weapons will be fundamentally similar to Hunter, but I will endeavor to make it different.

Lets look at Gazlowe, from Heroes of the Storm for inspiration.

A Ranged Tinker, would use multiple different Turrets with shared cooldowns in order to output the Lions share of their damage, The Turrets would all function as simple, non-moving minions with Timed life. (Similarly to a Starcraft 2 unit, their life would degenerate over time, until they die. So it is artificially accelerated by dealing damage to them)

Meanwhile, The Tinker would use a variety of Electric ranged attacks and explosives to overcharge their turrets, Causing them to increase in damage output, and increasing their duration.

This couldn’t be done infinitely however. The turret’s duration would get diminishing returns similar to old Void Form from BFA. So you couldn’t stack more and more turrets as the fight goes on. It would have a soft limit.

This would make Haste an incredibly valuable stat, as at certain breakpoints, you would be able to get an additional turret alive at one time.

To Facilitate this: Tinker could have a simple Build --> Spend rotation that uses a Resource like Rage. Their spenders could increase fire rate of their turrets, and restore duration on their turrets.

Lastly, Turrets could be Broken down for scrap to refund some of their cooldown. Think Totemic Recall from Burning Crusade. And the Turrets could only hold a maximum of, lets say 3 charges.

  • Specialization 2: Tank. Uses Bows, Guns, Crossbows, and Intelligence.
The Tank specialization for Tinker should focus on using a personal Mech suit.
Simply put, this could be used like a Shapeshift form, giving you Melee Attacks despite having a ranged weapon equipped.

I Imagine the Tank specialization could focus on Generating Electricity with cleaving AoE Attacks, and then spending Electricity on various forms of Mitigation.
Self-Repair could be a Channeled self heal that prevents movement, but still allows mitigation and blocking.

And to make the Tank spec unique, It could focus on Absorb shields. A Passive ability could allow 25% of Healing to instead be transferred into an absorb shield. Electricity could be spent on absorb shields, and shields could be dispersed for AoE damage to keep agro.

Slap on a Taunt and some Major Tank cooldowns. and you’ve got yourself a Tank.
(I can imagine a Cheat death, that forcibly pops you out of the Mech. Allowing you to call down a new one, D.Va style, or a Massive Overshield that reduces movement speed by 70% while active)

  • Spec 3. Healer: Bows, Guns, and Crossbows, Uses Intelligence

This is the Simplest Idea I’ve had yet. Steal from Overwatch. Specifcally Ana.

Healing Grenades that also reduce healing received, Firing Healing Darts or Arrows at your teammates.

And a Few more interesting Ideas, Such as a Fast Reload that allows you to instant cast your heal a few times at an increased mana cost.
Or deploying Nanite fields that Give your allies significantly improved Leech.

Hell. Even give them a Toggle ability that causes their Auto Attacks to Target allies, and heal instead of Harm.

The Sky is the Limit.

Sounds like a Valewalker from DAOC. In any case, it’s too similar to Beastmaster in terms of the turrets, and they’re not going to do the “scrap turrets for resources” for the same reasons they removed ammo from the game years ago.

Also, the “extra healing becomes a shield” tank thing has already been done, so you’re going to have to do better there. And no, “resources become mitigation and throw in a taunt and you have a tank” isn’t class design.

I agree that it should stay with Gnomes and Goblins. And I’d like to see other tech classes for other races (Artificer for Draenei for example). Tinkers also use guns, turrets, robots and mechs. Not just bombs.

If Tinker is limited to smaller races, the Mechs don’t have to be any larger than a Tauren.

I’d argue against that. But I don’t even know what that is.

What are you smoking?
Beast Master focuses on 1 or 2 pets, and commanding them to attack.

You’re telling me, that you couldn’t destroy your turrets to reduce their cooldown?

That’s nothing like Ammo at all,

As a Tank main. That is exactly Blizzard’s class design.

You have resources, you have mitigation tools, you have a taunt, and you have big cooldowns.

Its a nice sentiment that, unfortunately, is not supported by anything. Monks have had their own ups and downs over the years, as have every other tank (including druid). Why would druids have been fine if they got stagger but monks did get it and have undergone their own slew of reworks and adjustments and “undevelopment” ?

I’ve already answered that, please read the thread.

If you have new questions I haven’t already answered, I’ll be happy to discuss further.

You entire argument is predicated on the fact that you don’t want new content, and would rather dwell on past mistakes.

Of course you’re going to get dissenting opinions. You literally advocate for less fun.

People want more of the WoW universe, and you’d rather moan about Bears not having stagger.

I Understand there are fundamental issues with the game. But adding a new class won’t change that.

Instead of offering a separate Idea, you simply argue that you don’t want any new ideas at all. That’s no fun for anyone.

And yours is based on a wish-list of marketing talking points instead of giving any thought to actual game design.

You’re an absolute fool if you don’t think that blizzard is the exact same way.

What do you think sounds better as an Add campaign?
“Come play the new class, Based on Warcraft 3, with cool new abilities!”

Or

“Come play WoW again, We fixed all the problems this time, we promise. ;)”
