The times they are a changin...regarding Duel Tournaments for cash prizes in WoW

What you do in your group or guild is your business. They had a tournament for cash, right? Where did the money come from? Did they organize this in private? Or was this advertised for anyone to come and participate for cash?

yes, exactly - context matters as the current devs are trying to emulate what the original devs created - and going straight to the original devs for said context is quite literally worth its weight in gold and not RL cash (see what I did there?)

When you stream to 150K people ain’t nothing “private”

again, slippery slope crits you for max irony damage - the entire purpose of this thread was to educate people that this type of activity was STRICTLY PROHIBITED under the original Terms of Service for the game…

I wonder what he would consider actionable because you put the TOS part in his mouth. (granted he probably doesn’t know the TOS of the top of his head)

Expecting the Terms of Service to be the same in 2019 as they were in 2005 is beyond ludicrous.

Laws have changed in the past 15 years.

well I can tell you for certain that it’s not sitting on a totem in a world zone…

Mainly getting at the fact if he had a “jerk” level he would take action over.

and yet here we are trying to recreate a game from 15 years ago…

Pause, so shot in the dark should coal mines maintain the laws and regulations of 180 years ago? or should they have modern laws and regulations?

The governments of the U.S., the E.U., and China don’t care about your nostalgia.

being a jerk =/= actionable offence

sounds like he isn’t completely adverse to sending people away for being a jerk and actually understands the TOS.

#IronyIsThatPrivateServersLiveUpToTheOriginalToSMoreThanBlizzardDoes

I do, but there’s only so much you can do before you’re barking up a tree and no one can say or do anything.

Did they organize this off-stream? Lay down the rules ahead of time? Or did they just stream the tournament? Details are important here.

And what I am telling you is EXACTLY what Blizzard could do about it, even under the original Terms of Service. Even quoting the thread, the page.

Blizzard had their hands tied. Blizzard wasn’t allowed to be omniscient. They couldn’t pry into what guilds or groups did in their guild chat, away from public eyes. Guild chat couldn’t be used against them, because that was part of the whole reason they were in a guild.

The only time Blizzard could intervene is if players weren’t in the same guilds or groups.

People really arguing over this?

Time passes, policies change. Get over it.

This rule would fall under people trading the appearance of the game by playing it and making money while streaming it no?

#nochanges, bannem.
