I’d legit love a spec for shaman that allowed for tanking.
The advent of imbuing equipped shields is definitely an encouraging sign.
Post on your main who’s a tank. We all know you just want to be OP.
Also when you get over 2500 you start to see DPS and healers that know WHEN its ok and exactly HOW to pull for a tank. Up to that point we are still hoping they figure out they have a kick button and use it on anything at all.
Yuuup. I will only tank for my guild or friends. Pugs are toxic and refuse to learn
Tanking has been both the worst and most rewarding experiences I’ve ever had in WoW so far.
When I was still very new to WoW in Dragonflight and trying out different classes/specs out of curiosity I tried Protection before moving on to the next class. Despite not wanting to tank I actually loved how it played and figured I’d at least give tanking a try.
So I qued for an LFG dungeon and got Freehold. I’ve ran it before a few times on other classes but never as a tank. As soon as I instanced in I told my group in chat that I was new to tanking and to please let me know if I’m doing anything wrong.
IMMEDITATELY the Healer and a DPS left. (We haven’t even did a single pull yet lmao)
Eventually the other 2 DPS left as well and I sat alone in that dungeon for about 5 minutes before it got auto-filled. Once we started one of the new DPS was some gigachad geared monk that did crazy damage and killed things so fast it basically invalidated my need to be there lol.
Haven’t qued for another dungeon on that character ever lol. Just lvl’d via questing and exploration all the way to 70. Got to end-game and it dawned on me, “Oh yeah…I have to tank now.” Remembering that first experience caused me to just hang that character up.
Nearly a year later my BF heard that I really liked Prot Warrior but was scared of tanking. He went with me on a new character (this one) that I made so I could re-learn everything and the players we got matched with this time were SUPER understanding of me being new, we all had such a great time that we all ran dungeons for another hour and became fast friends. That was the best time I ever had so far playing…all because some people gave me a chance rather than insta-leaving because I was new.
I’m still nervous to tank quing by myself now but that initial ‘tank anxiety’ barrier to entry has been broken.
TL:DR
The problem imo isn’t how the tank classes play, it’s the ‘Go Go GO!’ mentality of LFG that new tanks face right off the bat and getting left behind because others would rather leave them in the dust rather than help grow a new tank player which over time would help reduce the shortage of tanks.
I just q up as a tank for direbrew because I didn’t want to sit in the que because I’m trying to run all my alts through it. Very first one, as my screen loads a warrior jump jumps to him and activates the fight. Mind you, no one is even in the room yet. I know the fight is stupid easy but it can get weird some times. So I run in and I’m trying to gather up the mobs and it’s just chaos. The warrior almost gets himself killed and When it’s all over I message the healer say sorry I tried he said I seen what happened it’s all good. Can’t even tank a silly event. This is the mindset in all pug content most of the time. It’s just sad that this is where we are now. People have no respect for each other or the game.
Content doesn’t need a tank, stop trying to tank content like that.
No? Then why does the Q require a tank for the instance? This is the crap ppl are talking about. iT dOeSnt NeEd A TAnk SToP TaNkiNg… TaNK? LOL… If it didnt need one it wouldnt require it. But ppl like you take it upon yourself to rewrite the rules the way you see fit and everyone else just needs to toe the line. OOOOOOOOOOOKAY
Because Blizzard doesn’t want to customize the group finder to communicate that tanks and healers really aren’t needed here.
Really? Did your buddy blizz tell you that last weekend when you were hanging out at the bar. Man… Faux… we don’t want role requirements for direbrew but were just not capable of remaking the que for this… hey man… do me a favor. i need you to go into the general discussion page of the forums and make sure if anyone questions this that I SAID SO. K? thanks pal! >.>
Players only play as if tanks exist if there’s a need for tanks.
And you don’t need tanks in all content.
well until they change the requirements for the que system ppl need to respect the system but we cant even respect each other so…
Then it doesn’t need a healer if that’s the case.
Indeed, it doesn’t.
All queued content and probably be done with no healers and a tank, or a healer and no tanks.
When spamming heroic dungeons, group kept on going when tank dipped after an item didn’t drop. Slower, but doable.
When there’s a shortage of tanks, roll a tank.
everyone says that, but are too scared to do it. and then complain about no tanks
No one likes slow in this game.
So if all que content can be done without a tank why are we even here having this conversation? Oh, thats right. because it does. Ppl are so impatient now with a full group and capable ppl doing content. Lets remove the tank and make the content longer just because. Im sure everyone will be on board for that xD
The automated queue system doesn’t let you in until X people are present. It doesn’t mean you actually need everyone.
As for mythic keys, there have been groups without tanks or healers in the past. 1 tank /4 dps isn’t that uncommon on the high end.
