The Spotting Eagle Is Actually Hilarious

Oh, I know. I just wanted to illustrate the manner in which I would love my Eagle to sit on my arm. I know the Eagle is little more than a Mage’s phoenix familiar, but it would look cool!

Best part about opinions. We all have them.

For real. I made a similar suggestion the other day. It’s one thing for them to push a specific random animal on us, but it’s even worse when the animal doesn’t fit the vibe of both the hero tree options.

In any case, my poor mechagnome hunter with his specifically mechanical stable of friends will be benched. He’s not going to grub around with some flesh pet!

Yeah that sucks. I’ll be fine since I have played BM since vanilla basically. I pretty much only go MM to AoE old content, still I think they could do something better than an eagle. This is a big change for MM and particularly controversial atm.

The least they could do is try to add something cool to smooth over some of those hurt feelings. The eagle is very “meh”.

Hopefully Blizz re-evaluates this eagle pet and gives us a better flying pet (start at 3m 57s):

Imagine if they had a talent that would let you choose between having a pet or not using one and dealing a bit more damage on your own.

Stupid question from non hunter. From the discussion it sounds like this change optimizes dungeon /etc play. Which is fine! Does it become un-level-able, though, as the price? And yes, of course one could switch to a different spec for leveling, but that’s something of a philosophy change for the game, where every class/spec should be reasonably able to level their characters.

This does feel like a heavy handed change to satisfy a distinct playstyle.

Much like butts, and like butts they should be kept in pants and sanitized daily to bi-daily.

Care to elaborate on this “distinct play style” or should I just go with “Source: Trust me bro”?

I know the common “phrase” to which you were eluding and I approve.

Outdoor content seems more or less fine. Although my hunters I’ve copied to the ptr are 80 and in at least semi decent gear, so it might not be the best way to judge. Some elites are still manageable. It really depends if they can be slowed at all. But delves have been absolutely awful. There’s nothing you can do against delve bosses except disengage and sprint, which usually only buys you a few seconds. You spend a lot of time just face tanking them. I tried using the new tank spec for Brann, but it is not made for a dps character. He needs a healer.

I am just going by the discussions, I did start with “I dont play this class, so can someone educate me please?”. My understanding is this change is helpful in group/dungeon/raid play, but may make the spec difficult/unsatisfying to level. Is that true? That was the question.

Thanks! I vaguely get that hunter is a utility class that is meant to rely on agility and creativity, but you can only utility so much. But it’s good that open world play is still reasonable, that’s better than a weird, one-off, “dungeon only” spec for one class.

It is, yeah. The current frustration with marksman is that lone wolf, the talent that gives you a slight damage boost if you don’t have a pet out, is better performing than playing with a pet. However the pets bring certain utility which is valuable in a lot of group situations. Most notably Primal Rage, which is the hunter version of bloodlust. So a lot of people would start a fight with a pet, cast PR, and then spend a few seconds dismissing their pet. Or just leave it out and resent it. Not great. But also easily solved by just giving hunters primal rage directly. Which is effectively what they’re doing with this silly eagle anyway. The rest of the rework is just unnecessary.

It would be very much true because there are TONS of people out there who simply refuse to participate in higher-end content such as Mythics or Raids. I still have yet to get behind the mentality of why they choose not to run it (or worse, sabo it) – probably because of community toxicity. The solution is simple: Start networking so said user doesn’t have to succumb to PUG toxicity. It all starts with being nice. Which tends to go missing… a lot…

I offer to help those in need all the time in lower keys. Whilst not playing meta for a bit of balance. I ain’t going to be holding their hand…

Anyway, while I love Mythics, I love solo content and Delves too. Gutting MM Hunters and their pets shatters my immersion and play styles.

Ground-pounders have been kvetching about the quality of their air support ever since there’s been such a thing, so that tracks.

For me it’s not really issues with other players. I just don’t like playing with others. I don’t like playing at a pace set by someone else, I don’t want to rely on anyone else, and I don’t want anyone else to rely on me.

I do this all the time on my alts. Rogue, Hunter, Shammy… you name it.

If they want me running mid-high key Mythics or joining a Raid, Attimis takes the spotlight and is fueled up with rocket fuel to fight.

I can see MM Hunters being nerfed because of the over powered eagle. Slim shady wants to come back, but the community wants to put slim right back into it’s box. They don’t want to deal with an OP hunters again.

This reminds of Unholy Dks flying ghoul. In which was op during Wolk.

The erasure of pets in mmo’s the past few years is a shame
