The Spelladin - new Retribution meta for Classic

I’m not telling anyone what to do. I’m saying that I don’t find it appropriate to tell others what they can and can’t do. If they want to join your group, sure. But if they’re not in your group, who cares? And as the raid is 40 people, I imagine it’s far easier to fill those groups if you don’t deny people entry for being less than perfect, but that’s just my opinion.

Not at all. Like I said above, DPS is incredibly easy to recruit for raids.

You’re right who cares? Just don’t get mad when someone tells you that your spec is a joke and it’s trash and you can’t play with them. If you’re cool knowing that you’re everyone’s punching bag then go ahead.

The problem is when people like you come out and say “well rets will be in my guild” or “rets aren’t that bad they can hold their own weight.”

Sure, rets will be in your guild, congratulations, that doesn’t exclude the fact that in PvE the spec is pure trash can and people don’t want to play with a weigh on their back when it’s 100000x times eaiser to pick up the millionth mage in trade chat.

IF YOU’RE COOL WITH THAT THEN PLAY RET BUT THAT’S THE TRUTH AND YOU SHOULD KNOW IT BEFORE YOU ROLL YOUR CLASS

/thread

You can definitely tell that when the game isn’t even out yet.

Reading comprehension. I’ll be playing a Hunter - and while I don’t scale as well, somehow I don’t think a raid filled with Rogues, Warriors, and Mages will be any fun.

It’s definitely not when you’re rolling against 15+ people for the same piece of gear.

Speak of reading comprehension. I have already told you that your idea of fun comes from how you want to play the game. However, just because your idea of fun is one thing doesn’t mean that reality suddenly changes for you.

Also, I can definitely tell you, as you already said this is “a 15 year old game.”

Rets are sub par in raids and if you are okay with that and will have fun playing that spec then GO FOR IT!

However, reality won’t change for you just because you decide to be an underdog. As the name implies you’re…the underdog.

that’s exactly why Vanilla/Classic is so much fun - there are so many different ways to play the class/spec unlike the retail game where it is so bloody linear and everything is spoon fed to you that it completely sucks the joy out of playing the game.

just theory crafting this alone with my Paladin brothers is half the fun alone

the very reason that it is going to be hard and a grind/challenge to make work is worth its weight in gold!

PS 8/8 Tier 2 is BiS forever for Spelladin especially if the 8/8 set bonus triggers procs in Classic - which means that Spelladins don’t take gear from anyone.

Plus, again, it’s not going to take super hardcore min/maxing to down the content. Maybe Naxx, but that’s it.

How many times did I say that I don’t care what you do in your group, my opinion is that it’s just poor form and silly to deny people based on what they play? How many times to I have to say I’ll be playing a Hunter not a Paladin? Or is there a mysterious fourth spec called Retribution for Hunter?

And in naxx, ret’s have bonus damage on some of their spells against undead so it may be really good for them.

no we don’t actually - we have Exorcism (15sec cd) and Holy Wrath (1 min cd) which can be used against undead along with Stratholme Holy Water (which scales at 100% of spell dmg) but no, our normal rotation damage abilities DO NOT do more damage against undead

that only came through in later expansions

You literally can not read.

Again, do whatever you want. I really don’t care how you form your group or how you play. Do you want to make a 40 man raid group of all warlocks? I really don’t care that’s NOT THE POINT.

The point is that ret is an underperforming spec and if you are okay with that information going in then have fun. Just don’t be surprised when things go don’t your way.

Ah ok, well either way, it gives extra to add to the rotation assuming you can keep up with the mana which should still increase DPS, especially if you’re going the spell power route and using the MCP, right?

You keep arguing the same points that have nothing to do with anything I’m saying. I’m not talking about Ret alone, I’m talking about anything that isn’t optimal - like Fury, Fire, and whichever spec Rogue can top the DPS with. I don’t plan to play any of these, I plan to play a Hunter, which starts out good but does not scale as well. And that’s fine. My point is that denying people based on what they play is silly, when it’s likely you’ll need more warm bodies than anything else. If you don’t, great. Have fun. But my opinion is that your attitude isn’t really a good one in the spirit of the game and what Blizzard wants to do with it.

I couldn’t care less what your group does. I don’t plan to run my own raids and I don’t plan to seek out hybrids or decline anyone playing the absolute best classes/specs.

yes for sure it is a dps increase by adding Exorcism to the mix but by no means is it ZOMG WTF OP AF hehe

Holy Wrath in Vanilla is a huge mana cost, has a 2sec cast time and also resets your swing timer as well - so it’s only useful on Undead AoE packs such as those before Patchwerk:

OR

if you use this as your weapon and wait for the proc to go off while on a single target Undead boss:

Hand of Edward the Odd
Item Level 62
Binds when equipped
Unique
One-Hand Mace
50 - 94 Damage Speed 1.60
(45.00 damage per second)
+13 Intellect
+10 Spirit
Durability 105 / 105
Requires Level 57
Chance on hit: [Next spell cast within 4 sec will cast instantly.]

My point is that denying people based on what they play is silly, when it’s likely you’ll need more warm bodies than anything else.

I agree with your point but you still fail to see mine.

JUST BECAUSE IT SUCKS THAT PEOPLE WILL DENY YOU DOENS’T MEAN IT WON’T HAPPEN!

Does it suck? Yes. Will it happen? Yes. Should you know this before rolling ret? Yes.

End of discussion.

Also the “spirit of the game” is subjective. Believe me, the way you’re playing doesn’t feel like the “spirit of the game” to me either.

Where did I say it would never happen? Pretty sure my guess is that it’ll take more warm bodies than anything else to fill a roster, rather than just picking them up by the dozen. I could be wrong, or I could be right. If someone wants to deny me for being a Hunter, oh well. If I didn’t want to be denied a group I’d play a healer.

Every class has the potential to be denied a raid spot for the class/spec they’re playing. I’ve been in raids that denied raid spots to mages because they already had a bunch of clothies or they needed more locks instead. Or raids that wouldn’t bring a prot warrior because they already had their tank spots filled (happens a lot when you have a guild group with dedicated tanks).

There will be people who will deny anyone for any reason.

they are what’s known as Elitist Chokers…

lolret indeed
