Ultimately, yes. But no one can seriously consider a goblin style of architecture, given their history. What would it look like, Town-In-A-Box?
I’d need faith that they won’t make many exclusive cash shop items and I do not have that faith. They can also easily take the approach that makes the grinds bad enough to incentivize the purchase instead.
This is a huge opportunity to sell tokens and cash shop exclusives. Do I want them to do that? No. I still expect it.
So you want to be able to select your “achievements” and display them in your own way? Would you also consider scaling a need? Like would you want pictures on the wall to have varying sizes to more prominently display one accomplishment above others?
So as long as cash shop items were like battle pets where they could be traded for free or sold in the AH for gold would be sufficient? Then players could still access that decor with gold.
I have thoughts. First, the designers won’t read this forum for inspiration or feedback. Second, you know that they are aware of other games and will take what works; so, the games listed here in this thread will have elements in WoW housing. Third, the Tiller’s Farm and the Garrison had some cool ideas, so don’t dismiss them because they’ve been done.
It’s a business. Ultimately some things will be created for the shop.
Do we want to ask that those items be tradeable or sellable in the AH?
That’s a great question. I think I’d like it sort of like it is in Ironforge with some part of an item with a tile beneath that you click on to read about it.
I’m imagining the dragon customization system for customizing the appearance of the home/room combined with how the trading post displays different wares each month. We collect “parts” or skins and then can select which ones are displayed at each anchor point. Some points like armour displays, pet beds or stables might be able to draw upon our existing collections for their assets.
(This seems like the “path of least resistance” to me)
The operative word in what you quoted being “many” so, yes, the assumption is that there will be. I expect a lot will and for most of them to be exclusive to the shop.
I expect them to tie a lot of the housing items to delve, raid, and mythic achievements/drops as well. Much like they already do with mounts and mogs.
They don’t spend time on new features without a plan for profit and to incentivize engagement so people should expect quite a bit to be tied to this and for it to be heavily used to incentivize token and cash shop sales.
What we “want” does not matter because, as you said, they are here to make a buck using what works to make a buck.
AH! So maybe a small portrait with a plaque on it describing which event it is. Maybe a target item that links to the achievement on that character. “Defeated Edwin VanCleef 10/22/2024” sort of thing? Or just a general dscription? “Defeated Edwin VanCleef”
This would be a must. Items should drop from doing in game content, and be exclusive to that content.
You can ask. How long that takes, if ever, will be out of our hands. Putting them on the AH is probably not the way to go, because the AH goblins will control that market exclusively. Contrary to the usual conspiracies, Blizzard doesn’t control AH prices.
It’ll have to be to incentivize token purchases so collectors will buy carries.
Tinderboxes among other verifiable examples say otherwise.
Old content has more wiggle room for player price control but current content is a heavily planned economy.
I’d rather have:
-Apartment in a major city.
-Ability to decorate it with basic furnishings along with exclusive ones from achievements.
-I want it based off the zone it’s in but the ability to add interior options to make it more closely aligned with my race.
Extra things I’d like to see:
-Items you can interact with/activate such as stoves, showers, and fireplaces that can be toggled on/off.
-Basic hygienic items such as sinks/basins for washing up, as well as items to furnish a kitchen.
-The ability to choose our own ambience or music inside, like you can with the Orchestrion decoration in Final Fantasy XIV.
But if they were tradeable, players could sell privately in Trade chat with others who are looking for them. Another avenue to make gold and help other gamers spend their gold.
This is an interesting aspect. The exterior matches the zone, but the interior matches the race. So custom race furniture is a must. Then you can choose how you live, and the zone would determine where you live and what it looks like from the front yard or road.
Well, even if the Cash Shop furniture makes it into the AH, and the bots leave it alone, it could also drive token sales purely to purchase the furniture packs exclusive to the shop.
