The Only Way Forward for Cataclysm

What has value is based on the individual. Do you think being with hot women and having a mansion and a Bugatti is something to brag about? Or even something that anyone would care regarding. If we are being real nothing matters and nothing is truly of value as when you die you lose it regardless. No one cares about people that make 300k a year like the pally* is going on about other than him.

Moral relativism is popular among those with misplaced and misguided values. The concept mainly derived from cultural relativism in anthropology. It’s a controversial and complex idea in philosophy that you likely only know in the most superficial way. I, and most of the greatest philosophers reject the idea. You should read The Moral Landscape: How Science Can Determine Human Values by Sam Harris which is a clear rejection of moral relativism, but I know you won’t do that. Perhaps you can watch his podcast on the subject since actual reading of books is an intellectual attainment few have reached in these decadent times.

Some of Jordan Peterson’s early work before he became a right wing loon for the money is good too. Much simpler arguments against moral relativism from an evolutionary psychology point of view.

But I’m sure you won’t make the slightest attempt to educate yourself on the subject. You’d rather cling to your superficial understanding of the concept of moral relativism since it justifies you not considering the smallness of the life choices you’re making.

It’s all well and good to say that but the simple fact is most of those who want wrath era spend most of their time talking about how bad cata is. And most of the anti-wrath era talk is a reaction to the cata hate.

Sure, but then rip off his armor plate to stab him in the vitals, not to let loose the tentacles that were hiding under his scales.

We’ve fought some pretty big stuff before (albeit, none as big as Deathwing) with no real issues. Hell, we stabbed Ragnaros in the knees till he kneeled over.

I dunno how long you think it takes to make a forum post, but no, this aint it fam :stuck_out_tongue:

isn’t like 1 hour of even a “good” gdkp worth like 20 minutes working at mcdonalds

The thing about those real-world luxuries is that they typically require a greater development of character, and also imply a much wider variety of fulfilling life experiences than sitting in a room staring at a screen. This reeks of fox-and-sour grapes. It is easy to write off those awesome things when they are not on the table for you.
But they could be. It’s not about what you can brag about, it’s the opportunity cost of missed experiences due to investing so much time in one hobby. How you spend your days, is how you spend your life.

Someone’s either illiterate or color-blind since the last Rogue-made post that was in this thread was #22 when the thread’s at 67.

Is it stereotype day or something?

Normally I’d comment on using Sam Harris as a source of anything due to his own problems, mostly concerning Islam…

…but seeing this suggests that Harris has some value in spite of that. Hell, I was a fan of Dawkins back when I was 19.

I’d point to Andrew Taint as a counter-example; he’s somehow more cartoonish than a Captain Planet villain in an episode designed to highlight how mistreating women is bad, so his character development is nonexistent and I doubt anything in his life is fulfilling, considering what it seems to involve.

The trappings of capitalistic excess, like a toilet made out of gold, don’t signal well-earned success as much as they do inherited wealth and the resulting attitude of actual entitlement.

I’d have that debate. I’ve read and watched most of what Harris has done and I haven’t seen any problems with what he said about Islam. Those who have problems are either taking him out of context or are unwilling to deal honestly with reality.

Usually he gets tacked on to the topic, since Bill Maher is usually the first name on the list…which is relevant, since there’s apparently an interview with Batfleck with Maher and Harris where Ben’s on the offensive towards the two of them.

Apparently he’s also an “effective altruist,” which there’s a decent PhilosophyTube video on from last year highlighting how that school of thought is at best misinformed…and at worst yet another grift.

Yep, agree with ya Cooperbrew!

Man, this topic’s gone in a weird direction!

Yeah I don’t know how a Cataclysm thread got to this point, I just hope Godwin’s Law doesn’t happen. I mean it’d be funny but the thread might get locked.

Seems like this thread has gone off the rails and I’m surprised it has been allowed to continue. :thread: :no_bell: :mute:

That is a good counterexample and I agree that most wealthy people build their wealth on a foundation of inheritance, either directly or help from mom n pop getting real estate and other investments going very early in life.

But I know that if I had Bugatti/mansion money and access to supermodels, I don’t think I’d be playing WoW very much. Maybe I still would, but Henry Cavill ain’t raiding on 5-10 characters for 20-40 hours per week.

Yeah, pretty sure there’d be better things to do with them than run around mount farming or something.

I’m pretty sure the only way forward for Cataclysm is announcing Mists of Panderia at Launch of Cata and pray that will keep people around.

dude lol
