If you care about the “best ability” then why do you not care about the “best class”
You cant say “Oh i care about most optimal performance but only in covenants” when you are sub optimal class wise.

Why do you think people who want Covenants to be balanced don’t also want classes to be balanced?
If covenant abilities were covenant based as opposed to class Blizzard could probably make this a lot easier to work with since they could make like 4 abilities in total and they would all focus on a different aspect of the game and players could pick what to make their character good at. Dungeons, PvP, raid, world content, AoE, single target, cleave, utility, etc.
The biggest problem for covenant abilities and making them all feel good is that with such a large quantity of abilities they are putting out Blizzard will not be able to design all the content in Shadowlands with all 48 abilities in mind to make people feel good about picking a covenant for a specific reason on a consistent basis. Some classes are going to feel like good genuine choice, and others are going to be like “This sucks and this sucks, and this one is preferred BUT the other one is decent” or you may just have a freakishly broken ability any informed player would take because the other three just don’t compare. And also…what happens if Blizzard rebalances them after the first patch?
I like the idea of some personal choice you can get out of this, but I’m not sure if it’ll really work out that way.
Deming said you cannot produce a quality product when you have goals that conflict with quality. I think this is what lies beneath these unpopular ideas that they feel the need to force on us.
In this case we have past evidence in both Legion’s Artifact Weapons and BfAs Azerite Armor that they aren’t going to have you be able to choose Covenants based on your spec. That suggestion is just you trying to act like you care about classes that have multiple roles and players who play multiple specs when you know that Blizzard would never do it. Just admit that all you care about is hurting the “min-maxers” and you’re completely fine if the people who genuinely enjoy playing multiple specs get hurt because of it.
Also I thought you wanted your choice to matter? Allowing Covenants to be Spec-based defeats the purpose of you making that choice.
Sure you can, because some people like to play the classes that they enjoy. You can absolutely not care about being the “best” in terms of numbers but still want to do as much as you can on your preferred class.
You are not advocating for balance you are advocating for a free “allow me to change to fully geared X class before this boss cuz X class is better, and give me another fully geared class for m+ and another one for pvp because the 2 previous classes are trash at pvp”
YOu dont want balance you want to have everything handed to you with no effort, nobody is stoppping you from leveling multiple FotM classes nor are they stopping you from making 4 of each class to get into each covenant
Yeah, you’re going to need to tear down that strawman and try again with an actual argument.
You don’t know the first thing I want. You’re just ranting and raving about some strawman nonsense you’ve cooked up so you can avoid addressing any problems with the Covenants.
It’s very hard to enjoy the class/spec and now / covenant you like with multiple players around you telling you that your not doing well enough and you need to do x,y and z to improve. After a while the spreedsheets and infobabble they toss at you ware away at your soul until you will do it just to shut em up! Or you will quit any high level content and go to a world of RP and mog hunting then drool at the screen wondering is this mog is the best mog for your in game Karazan party.
I want hard choices with my class not with rentals. That is my stance.
Rentals are not part of my class = I don’t care.
The covenants actually will flop harder than Azerite based on how more rigid this will be.
No one has ever asked for a “free fully geared class” this might help, we don’t gear up our Covenants.
We choose our Covenants and for everyone the reason is different, the reason we’re asking for it to be easier to switch back and forth is because we have very little trust that Covenants are going to be balanced, and we know based on past evidence that they aren’t going to let Covenants be Spec-based choices.
If I choose a Covenant, let’s say Venthyr, because Flayed Shot feels good to play with, not because of damage but because of the way it adds depth to the way my Hunter could be played, and Blizzard then nerfs the proc rate of the free Kill Shots, I might want to change to another Covenant, solely because the Flayed Shot playstyle would no longer be as fun. If Blizzard then reverts that change I’ll be pissed because now I have to go back to it and grind it out.
The more pressing concern is with multi-spec classes, where a Covenant that has a good ability for Tank Specs might have atrocious abilities for the other 2 specs. There is no scenario where Blizzard allows you to take multiple Covenants based on Spec like you seem to fantasize about.
This would remove the purpose of having Covenants “locked” in the first place.
It would allow players to just choose 3 (except for DH who would have 2, and Druids who would have 4) Covenants to join.
Every day is Sunday when you’re on Corona Time.
The covenant system looks great. Making a choice is a good option for the game and adds Immersion.
Just like classes
Just like classes
Then you dont care about gameplay you care about DPS, doing less damage doesnt change the gameplay
If something is broken it is often “fun” for some who delude themselves those big numbers are theirs while it is simply an unbalance, if you are having fun because you get easymode high DPS then clearly your fun isnt connected to gameplay.
And like i said, they should make covenants spec specific imo, whenever or not you see this as valid because it hasnt been done in the past makes little different to me.
Did they determine your aesthetic? I don’t think so. Therefore they aren’t the same thing as covenants.
Those aren’t my arguments. And I’m not FotM.
So your post is moot.
Gameplay choices shouldn’t determine aesthetics and vice versa. How many times do I need to keep making this point? Also, rental expac only systems shouldn’t be a class level choice.
Nope. Everyone shouldn’t be able to do everything. Spoiled whiners keep eroding every consequence.
Name one hard consequence this games ever had, especially one linked to player power
We don’t gear up our Covenants.
So the rotation not flowing well and feeling fun is all about damage?
You’re the only one talking about dps I’m talking about the way that it might feel to play, the synergy between Flayed Shot and the Dead Eye Talent seems like it would be fun to play. It might not be fun to play if the proc rate is once per Flayed Shot but it might be if it were 3 times. But all you care about is the fact that I said that I might switch if the proc rate were lowered that synergy would be less prevalent and therefore it would be less fun.
How about you address some of these issues first?
Yeah we should only be able to auto attack and anyone who disagrees is a spoiled ability using whiner
