The Multibox Pendulum

I’m pro-multiboxer, although I haven’t really done it in WoW (only a couple times with a trial account, and NO broadcasting hardware/software-- just good ol’ alt-tabs.)

In a way, I see your point-- these restrictions remove a lot from the multi-boxing experience, making it almost impossible to do PvE content now. And I could see how that would feel like being unfairly punished.

But on the other hand, I do see how software that redirects one input (key press, mouse click, and so on) to multiple clients could be seen as automation. One click of the mouse “automates” 5 clicks elsewhere, for example.

As unfortunate as it is, I’m afraid that I have to side with Blizzard that these tools are too close to automation/botting to be allowed. But, I will still support those who do multi-boxing without these tools, such as through alt-tabbing windows or two separate monitors. This still seems perfectly fine to me.

That was more efficient than multiboxing!

you said it. i’m not an AH tycoon spending hours flipping stuff for tiny margins, but for something that effortless i’m all over it

I have never manually herbed with my multibox team because I have always been able to flip the market on herbs which is a whole lot less demanding of my time.

The absolute kicker for me was the new update to hardware options… I mean even there, it is such a barrier to entry to begin with. Not to mention those that went that route now have a few budget gaming pc’s laying around. I think eliminating the ability to purchase copies of the game with converted bnet currency, requiring a retail copy for each account for legacy content as well, and keeping the software restrictions in place but allowing hardware options is a pretty good compromise.

The only issue I had with the “pendulum swing” is how long it took for the momentum to swing the other way. Did it go to far? F no.

No amount of mental gymnastics will change my opinion on that.

Quite the zinger there. As you can see we are having an open discussion about the reasons why. And fingers crossed help other players see both sides of game play and provide some perspective and ideas on compromise. Would you care to share why you don’t think they went to far?

Still patiently waiting for a game dev to reply. I was told by CS this what the only way to get additional answers and provide additional feed back on this topic.

They really should reduce to 5 taps and have skinnable corpses decay a bit faster. Give like 20 seconds then make it non-skinnable. Those two changes would make multiboxing and botting less gold. The person multiboxing dungeons or raids isn’t hurting anyone.

Multibixing PVP is only useful in the world, but not a big deal. Would a solo player attack a 5 man party? Is the 5 man party cheating? No.

A 5 team multibox is really only about as good at a 3 person party, so I don’t understand the anger towards multiboxers.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and ideas. This is exactly why I started this discussion.

Dedicated Multibox servers?

I mean I had to suggest it. And it seems logical. Take one of the dead retail and legacy servers for each content release and let us go Ham or create new ones all together. Within the TOS of course. That Would alleviate everyone’s concerns about advantage/disadvantage.

at this point multiboxers would make more good than harm to wow, servers are empty and people arent playing much any way. reverse the change to the ToS regarding multiboxers

Suggested that in a couple of the other gazillion multiboxing threads made since Nov last year lol. EQ has something similar to that. Truebox progression realms for people who like to multibox. Although at onetime they frowned upon the use of multibox input broadcasting software being used on them. But believe they relaxed that stance, or don’t really enforce it nowadays on those servers. Who knows though. The way this game has bled subs over the last year they might eventually say what the heck with it, let em multibox

Thank you for the context on how other MMO’s are handling similar situations. And yes I know there have been many other MB threads. I was hoping that taking a different approach other than MB good MB bad might get more traction.

Just see it as a alternative playstyle for people. But also realize how it can interfere with other players gameplay. Separate realms, and Auction houses from regular realms could possibly work idk. Anyways good luck.

Multiboxing makes an excellent same time alt leveling tool. I have 5 lvl 50’s I’m bringing up, all different classes.

That is definitely one of the benefits!!!

I like the idea of multiboxxer only realms but at the same time I don’t  The dislike is because it would set a precedent, servers for Multiboxxers would mean someone is going to popup “How come multiboxxers get their own realm?” and they’ll want some random realm they like “No flying realm”, “PVP realm”, etc. Which isn’t bad in itself I just don’t want Blizz to have to split their time up working on various types of realms instead of adding more content.

Although I would greatly appreciate multiboxxer only realms because if they are isolated as you guys request them to be then that means no CRZ and I would love a no CRZ realm lol.
