The lore difference between Horde high elves and Alliance High elves?

You know? I was wondering whether Void High Elves actually need the Sunwell at all. I suppose channeling the Void is enough for them.

Alleria has been refered as void elf, but her race didn’t change. Those high elves from Telogrus will join the void elves and call themselves as void elves like Alleria does, but their race and background will not change.

As soon as alleria ate the void cool-aid she became a void elf. She became currupted. But she is also an exception to the cause, as she didn’t take a ritual to get that way. Kinda like how nathanos was able to "steal"a living body thanks to sylvannas. We still have other examples like vereesa and Arator to take from then just void elves. espaically since most void elves even in lore is still void currupted BE turncoats.

Lor’themar has said plenty of times that all high and blood elves are children of Quel’thalas, and in his short story we actively see him trying to bring other high elves back home as well. And the fact that he also opened the doors to the Sunwell for the High elves is pretty indicative of his good-will towards them. From a lore perspective nothing suggests otherwise.

While the game does officially claim the player as either a void, or blood elf, the lead narrative designer danuser stressed that these options were to help reflect different subgroups players may identify as regardless of quest text. Hence why wildhammer dwarf tattoos were given to Bronzebeard dwarfs and why darkspear trolls got sand troll options. The game adding these options to these races is their way of expressing to the players the possibility of those subraces in that faction.

The only difference is that a high who returns home to Quel’thalas remains pretty much the same, while a high elf who decides to join the void elves undergoes a pretty dark transformation that changes them on a fundamental level.

I mean everything up until they vanished doing void research their lore is lock and step the same. Everything post Alleria saving them is “forging a new path” or so they say.

Nah, a blood elf is no more a high elf than a void elf is a high elf. The semantics and the distinction are nonsensical at this point. The blood elves that were fel tainted and got green eyes were just as “contaminated” as any high elf studying the void will ever be.

I wish people would give up the nonsense. I don’t think people get it. The majority of people that wanted playable high elves wanted to take their stand with the Alliance in opposition to the choices the blood elves and by extension the Horde has made.

The void elves can rock the silver covenant tabard, the quel’dorei steed, the silver covenant hippogryph, all the Alliance blue armor and hang out with Alleria & Vereesa Windrunner. Someone creating a blood elf with pale skin and blue eyes, then saying they are a high elf that returned home to Quel’Thalas is no different that someone creating a void elf with the same aesthetics and saying they are just dipping their toes into the study of the void.

Aesthetically and thematically to me, the void elves are far closer to the high elves I wanted to play. There’s no rule that states the void elf racials can’t be a result of studying the void and wielding it’s energies without a full transformation.

You know, ultimately our characters are whatever we want them to be and whatever we see them as based on what we’ve read and experienced. So this nonsense of blood elves claiming to be the “true high elves” and dismissing void elves as tainted is the most hypocritical thing in this game community right now.

If you want to play as a “true high elf” in Quel’Thalas have at it, but dismissing others is silly. Although quite in character for a blood elf. I understand this won’t change your mind or many others, and you know what? That’s okay!!! That’s why there are two factions. You can enjoy all your red armor, and orcs and trolls and orgrimmar until the hawkstriders come home.

This development is undoubtedly going to be healthy for the faction conflict because people really do feel differently about their characters and the opposing side. Not unlike the Silver Covenant and the Sunreavers.

The Horde got the human with pointy ears High Elves and the Alliance got the others.

I mean, there are no real physiological differences between the three races. The biggest is what flavor of magic they’re infused with, and that now has some wiggle room in each of the races.

The biggest differences are all sociopolitical. It comes down to where your characters loyalties lie. Its your history that determines a lot of this.

From an rp standpoint anyways. Void elves are all infused with void, but with the addition of a “high elf” customization, then the option of playing an elf associated with that group that is less tainted or not tainted, is possible and plausible.

I think blizzard actually did something really cool with the high elves.

Currently Void and Blood are just titles. The original genetics of both void and blood are the same.
The playable high elves have made a decision at some point in their lifes.

Those decision are:
Did I turn to the horde for vindication of my people and changed my title to blood elf? These are the original green eyed blood elves
Was I a member of the horde blood elf that was pushed out of their society for turning to the void? These are void elfs
Was I apart of the silver covenant but now that the war is over decided to return to my original homeland? These are blood elfs.
Was I apart of the silver covenant who decided to study the power of the void and remain apart of the alliance? Void elf.

This is where the majority of the high elf population is today.

There are unplayable high elves that have not decided to join either concept.
I’m sorry that you cant be those but get over it.

Ya’ll it’s a Snowsong thread… I’ve seen one where Snowsong says Void Elves are the most tainted race of the entire game and aren’t true elves. I’ve seen one where Snowsong says Blue Eyed elves will never go the Alliance and should be a Horde only customization cause it dishonors Blood Elves or something. Now… when we’re finally getting an end to this whole debacle, here comes Snowsong with the, “WELL, you get High Elves but unlike our High Elves they’re not REAL High Elves!” Okay Snowsong we get it, no need to keep moving the goal post.

You’ll never believe Alliance have true High Elves even if they specifically said High Elf in the name. You’d like say something like, “Well… technically they aren’t High Elves because the High Elves of old were associated with a particular time period and since that period has passed there is no way Alliance can be associated with blah blah blah.” LOL, I mean I don’t dislike you Snowsong but your bias for denying the legitimacy of Alliance High Elves is pretty obvious.

The Fel isn’t even involved with the Blood elves anymore though? A High elf who returns home to Quel’thalas isn’t required to expose themselves to the fel in order to rejoin Blood elves after all, but a High elf who joins the Void elves must implicitly accept being transformed by the void, and irreversibly altered.

Blood elves and High elves have access to the same themes, classes, are even connected to the same source of magic, they are biologically identical. While Void elves quite literally bleed purple blood. No High elf paladin would ever decide to be a Void elf for example, nor would any Sunwell worshiping High elf for that matter either.

But the implications of them dipping their toes into the study of the void makes all the difference. Becoming a Void elf is a physical transformation, it’s the reason why entropic embrace envelopes them while they’re battling, it’s why their blood has been changed to a deep purple, it’s why their ties to the Sunwell has been severed.

Joining the Blood elves requires nothing but a change in politics, a high elf who returns home to Quel’thalas can still worship the light, or arcane, they can become paladins, or draw their magic from the Sunwell. I’m glad that I get to play the pure, light-themed high elf I’ve been looking forward to all this time, and get to battle the darker, void-themed high elves.

Not to me, the idea of a “void high elf” completely contradicts the appeal of playing a High elf in the first place. I don’t want to play a high elf who’s been tainted or transformed by the void, I’d rather play a High elf I can say has remained pure, and still follows the light and the Sunwell.

Well they are whatever we want them to be in context to the race we’re choosing. To be a Blood elf is simply a matter of politics, and requires no meaningful changes to be made to their bodies or minds, while the choice to be a Void elf holds with it many lore implications of what it means to become an elf of the void.

Ultimately a High elf on the Horde is literally no different than any other High elf we’ve encountered in the game, while a void high elf has undergone some changes that alter them from standard High elves who still worship the Sunwell.

Well, technically I am correct.

At the end of the day there will be zero biological difference between a High elf on the Horde, and every other High elf in the game, while a void High elf has some pretty nasty void stuff going on, on the inside, and outside their bodies. It would bother me to no end seeing my high elf glowing like a purple light-stick every time I entered combat.

Nah fam. I’m done here. You are classic confirmation bias.

True that my man, I’m Hordie and even I can acknowledge this. I have seen Snowsong argue with a guy for like… 40+ posts about how Alliance will NEVER have blue eyed elves and Ion is word of god and blah blah, there’ll never be a pale skinned elf “Horde is waiting for you” Alliance. Now, even when it’s here completely confirmed right in front of her face, it’s “Well… they still aren’t true elves.” Congrats champ, both Horde and Alliance got legitimate High Elves. But convincing Snowsong otherwise is like convincing Garrosh orcs aren’t master race. She’s diehard belf fanatic lol.

Yeah, it’s so apparent. No one that actually wanted Silver Covenant high elves wanted to play as a member of the blood elves, literally defeats the purpose. :joy:

Never said this. Pretty sure I would think the undead were the most tainted race in the game if I were ever asked this question.

I also never said this either? I said there were already blue eyed blood elves on the Horde. I never said anything about blue eyed elves never coming to the alliance, since void elves already had blue eyes to begin with

It sounds like you’re making up quite a bit here.

I mean if you think I’m wrong you can just respond with your reasoning, because it certainly sounds like you’re just complaining without actually making any real points. Which considering half of your post is made up of things you completely fabricated I can’t say that I’m surprised.

Oh I believe that the Alliance got High elves, but I also acknowledge the fact that these High elves have become Void elves, which is a very different idea of High elves than the rest of the High elves in game, including the now-Horde ones.

This just feels like a bunch if incoherent rambling that has nothing to do with the topic at hand now. Attacking me personally isn’t going to make what I’m saying any less true you know.

Do people honestly think that they will give void elves blond hair? I’m asking this as a legitimate question.

Me taking the word of a developer is not a sign of “bias” heck literally the whole helf crowd jumped on Ion’s statement that Blood elves wouldn’t be getting blue eyes, so should we all claim that the only reason helfers felt that way was pure illogical bias? No, that’s taking the word of a lead developer, which is a pretty reasonable thing for anyone to do. Which includes both sides of the opposition.

Although ironically the void elves still don’t have our hair color. Whether or not that’ll change is up in the air, but as of now a void elf still cannot be a blonde haired, blue eyed elf.

Lights girl, you know I do!!! :sparkles:

Right, sounds like you made a bunch of comments you couldn’t back. But have fun with your mutated dark high elves. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Hopefully no, VE shouldn’t even be given BE skin textures given the nature of the void ritual to become a VE.
