Yea. Its a fun option for shaman cause like that looks amazing with the shield. However shamans will likely never be able to use polarms due to the animations.
I’ve seen some of Gnomest’s stuff since last year, it’s done nothing but improve every time they make something new! Every time, it really sells that Kelfin is a desired AR, and that so many folks are really behind it!
I support this concept.

There is a lot more kelfin fans then people make them out to be. I am trying to make a series of improvements to the models so they look much more professional. Played through subnautica 1 and 2 for inspiration.

So I’m thinking of a female hunter for my Kelfin. Gonna make her as a standin and then if they ever release Kelfin as an AR I’m gonna race change her.
I think I’ll level a warrior one if they do release them as an AR for heritage.
Given if they are playable it wouldn’t be for quite some time, that sounds completely fair. I probably wouldn’t mind just leaving one from scratch though if they become playable.

I saw some dancing crabs in Nazjatar and it reminded me of this. You find a lot of these crabs at the Kelfin pocket cave.
Honestly I don’t want them as an allied race. They are just Goblins with different customizations. So that’s what they should be. Add Kelfin customizations to Goblins. I mean do we really want another Tauren/Highmountain? Look at those two, you can count the differences on the fingers of one hand. Ugh. They should have just added Highmountain customizations to Tauren and called it a day.
IF they decide to add them as a separate race then they need a LOT of physical differences, like when they get in water they turn into a MerGoblin or something. Just the fins isn’t enough to differentiate them.
I don’t think these compare to highmountain tauren and LFD because these they have a lot more unique geometry and are much more culturally different and also have the potential to look a lot more distinct with enough effort.
I tend to lean more in the direction of giving them more distinction. There is a lot of ways they can be given physical distinctions. The problem with them just being customization is as follows:
Customization likely wouldn’t include things like the fins, differently shaped feet and if they gave this race a similar treatment to Zandalari or Kultiran it would definitely more distinct. Other differences they could add would be things such as the tentacles, maybe some new geometry or change the rig somewhat. So just having them as a custom option would mean a discounted version of the race basically.
This race could probably be able to be druids and some of those transformations I pointed out could work well for them. Some of them wouldn’t work as druid forms, but they are cool non the less.
I could more easily argue that Vulpera should have been a core race instead since they are more of the exception then the rule to allied races. In my opinion they should have been the race we got horde side 8.3. Plus I think they have much better lore, better character development and even more reason to join the horde and I would argue have even more to offer.
Gilgoblins that can’t breath underwater is almost as bad as eredar that can’t be warlocks. It would be a similar issue if draenei got some kind of manari skin.
Some of the custom options you would see present on this race wouldn’t work for goblins. Like here is the thing. Something like tentacle hair or fins may not make sense mixed in with regular land goblin options. It kinda wouldn’t make sense especially since land goblins personality wise are the sheer opposite of gilgoblins.
I agree for the most part. What I’m afraid of is they’ll just be Goblins with a few fins. We know blizz tends to take the path of least resistance with these allied races.
Vulpera use the Goblin rig and animations so they’re basically just a reskin, albeit a nice looking one.
NB are a Nelf reskin, they use the Nelf rig, same animations, same dance.
If you look at Kul Tiran’s move, I know they claimed they made a new rig but they sure move a lot like Ogres, ya know? Makes me wonder about that “all new rig”.
Highmountain are Tauren with moose horns, same rig, same animations, same dance, same everything.
DIDwarves, Dwarf reskin. Same rig, same animations, same dance, same everything.
Lightforged, nothing but Draenei with some different customizations. Same rig, same animations, same dance, same everything.
Mag’har Orc, nothing but Orcs with some different customizations. Same rig, same animations, same dance, same everything.
Velfs, nothing but Belfs with some different customizations. Same rig, same animations, same dance, same everything.
MGnomes, nothing but Gnomes with some different customizations. Same rig, same animations, only the dance is different.
I will say this though. As much bias as I have when it comes to gilgoblins, I do think vulpera are an excellent addition to the game. I just wish they didn’t come in place of gilgoblins. A real good move would have been to make both playable and have them be partners cause Vulpera and kelfin are like bread and better.
Keep this in mind though. My main goal with this thread is to make it known that gilgoblins are at the very least wanted. Whether it be a customization or an allied race so I respect your viewpoint. I want to see the best possibly conclusion out of this. So if they are going to be customization, I would love to see it done well and see kelfin go on more future adventures with the horde. Having them get more lore should be doable like wildhammer. Cause truthfully if they do become a customization what I can do is:
Use engineering for fast swimming.
Use potions for water breathing.
Play a shaman. Has a shapeshift and fits the race thematically well.
I can just the zanjir weapon rack for a trident and the twisting eyeball toy for an angler like light.
Gilgoblins have lore and are an unofficial horde race like taunka at least.
I can also advocate for goblin druids, but with gilblin skins so it makes sense.
Warlocks also have an ability that gives you water breathing.
All we can do is be vocal and hope for the best.
I agree again. I’d prefer if they are made a separate race that they be more different than just having fins. But I have a name reserved so, LOL, yeah I want them either way.
I think this is the sentiment many have in this regards. People don’t want a repeat of LFD and even among gilgoblin fans, many agree they should have some good effort put into them if they are to be an AR. Completely understandable. Cause after all. If they do the race poorly it can devalue goblins.
this is what we should have gotten instead of vulpera.
I definitely wanted them more. Thats for sure, but one thing I’ve learned. There are many requests out there, but only so many actually get to be an allied race. Many requested Sethrak. Us and the Sethrak fans are in a similar ballpark. Same with Sanlayn fans tbh.
