The instance is VC

I never once heard it called VC until visiting these forums and seeing some posts on other sites…I was constantly wondering wtf VC was…

Calling a dungeon something based on the boss is just silly IMO.

I do not care what people call it really, but a good debate is fun, especially when it is over something silly.

indeed, that’s my favorite memories from the old days.

I identify as a Vegan Basketball Horse-Latte Absurdosexual and anyone who threatens my safe space by not calling Deadmines as VC, even though there is clearly a D and an M in there needs to get woke like me.

Folks on my server said VC.

But could you imagine if anyone said DM?

Looking for players for Dire Maul, in lowbie Westfall? LOL!

In your dreams maybe, not the real world we lived in 15 years ago.

I like VC better.

That’s because you didn’t play vanilla. It was VC as far back as I could remember.

And you did?

I got thoroughly humiliated once when I was but a wee Night Elf. I got brave & took someone’s advice to make my own group. I spammed trade chat: LFM DM FULL RUN! Wowzers! I got a lot of lvl 40’s responding very fast. What a great instance this must be!

Then it hit me… “why would lvl 40’s want to run deadmines?” /shrug Oh well, it will be an easy run I guess.

Then someone noticed: "Raid lead is only lvl 15!! Why the heck are you spamming DM!??? GRRR! "
Everyone dropped group & proceeded to tell trade chat what I did & not to group up with me. 15 minutes of being yelled at that it was VC not DM. I really didn’t know… but I NEVER made that same mistake again.

Your confused, it’s DM…You’re welcome.

tru dat!

in all seriousness i remember some saying VC but the funny thing is WAAAAAY back in 2004 we actually typed things out.

LFM DEADMINES

i realize that is like 7 entire letters longer and im sure for most millenials it would be soul crushing to labor thru that but we actually used more complete sentences back in my day

I played Vanilla, I think 1.2 is when I started? Somewhere in there.
But I was always horde. So it doesn’t matter to me either way.

Just find it stupid to call a DUNGEON by its end boss name.

Just because someone doesn’t agree with you doesn’t mean “they didn’t play Vanilla” get out of here with that elitist mentality.

I played on a Vanilla launch server, it was always DM. Never heard the VC nonsense until I read it on forums or websites later.

You, uh… you do realize that it explicitly says:

sometimes used interchangeably”

As in, it’s not always what people call it, but sometimes they do. It doesn’t expressly say that’s the only thing people call it. It also does not say that it’s the official name of the dungeon, but rather a short hand for the last boss.

Also, back in 2006, we have:

It would seem that the truth is that both were used. Everyone is trying to say it was “only this way” or “only that way”. It was both ways depending on who you were, what server you were on, and who you were interacting with.

That “Official” handbook was a guide made by a non-Blizzard company. Game companies rarely interfere with things like abbreviation sections or run downs in guides. At best they do cursory checks to make sure it looks all right, but there’s a reason why guides are made by outsourced companies; the game company doesn’t care to do it themselves.

It’s about as official as a toaster strudel with a name tag, to be honest. Literally the only thing it means is that Blizzard authorized them to make a guide. Let’s not forget that the manual that came with the game, from Blizzard themselves, had a bunch of stuff that wasn’t even accurate.

Yes. I played from Vanilla to Cata on Magtheridon/Dark Iron/Medivh/Kel’Thuzad and every single one of those servers called it VC. I started playing two months after launch and they were calling it VC on every single server I ever played on. Even MEDIVH. You know, the single most OP super server in the entire game, for the entirety of vanilla called the dungeon VC.

Going by your achievements, it doesnt look like you played Vanilla much.

VC was used by those who are specifically working on the quest “The Defias Brotherhood” It implies that the quester needs the head of VanCleef. “dm” refers to the dungeon deadmines, especially if you are alliance, under level 30 and in the Eastern Kingdoms. If people want to argue about that in game, the insatiable hunger of my ignore list will devour them. Have a nice day. See you all in dm to kill vancleef.
