Oh yes, you are correct. I stopped playing in Cata because it was just a trash as WOTLK. I do not have my original account anymore. Does not change the fact that people on every single server I have ever played on in those days called it VC.

People have/are calling it both, neither is technically wrong. Although in the case of Dire Maul as DM, you also need to specify which wing youâre running.
No need to put others down/cuss 'em out for saying one or the other.
Personally Iâll use DM for Deadmines, and DME, DMN/DMW/DM Tribute for Dire Maul. Someone wants to use VC, I ainât gonna act like theyâre scum for it.
I remember DM, VC or Deadmines being used for Deadmines groups. For Dire Maul it was DM + the wing name. VC was a thing due to the quest to kill Van Cleef in Deadmines if I remember right.
It made perfect senseâŚback when Dire Maul wasnât even a thing.
Even back when DM wasnât even out people were calling it VC on Magtheridon. Even the official strategy guide calls it VC. Stop being ignorant.
What official strategy guide are you talking about? I did not know that Blizzard made those.
The BradyGames official strategy guide that released with the launch of the game, lists deadmines as VC.

When I started playing at launch there was no Dire Maul so DM was deadmines.

So the official strategy guide that had several things wrong in it and was not made by Blizzard. Meh to each their own.

It was endorsed BY Blizzard and had Terms, and Phrases and Abbreviations USED BY THE COMMUNITY as a reference for new players, that was parsed from the BETA of the game. Deadmines is VC.
Imagine naming a dungeon after a strategy guide.
I doubt you were literally playing when the patch was added since they have to bring servers down to do that 
Meh I will call it what I want to and names change over time anyway. Also the server I was on, everyone call deadmines DM and no one called it VC. Never heard of that until Beta for classic.

The best part is DM is nowhere to be found within the pages of this guide. Meaning VC was the most commonly used term for Deadmines as far back as the beta.
If you want to get into technicalities, no instance that has ever existed in WoW has had the initials VC.
I get where it comes from, but thatâs no reason to demand everyone call it that, acting like theyâre scum if they donât.
We all have opinions as to what to call Deadmines, and NEITHER is wrong.
