Character motivation that can NEVER be acted upon is next to worthless. And no, I don’t mind that the Horde is weaker than the Alliance (or that our power fantasy is so much weaker than theirs). What bothers me is that Blizz is so creatively destitute that they felt it was OK to have the FAR WEAKER faction play the aggressor in a war we are constantly told we could NEVER hope to win.
Though … that being said … Blizz does seem to be a tad too warrior happy with our faction reps (and THOSE can ONLY get powerups with high-magic equipment … or the blessings of some demigod like beings; both of which are in SHORT supply for the Horde).
What? Didn’t like the whole rebuilding process after MoP being ignored to instead focus on another REALITY of EVIL ORCS instead? Clearly the Horde being allowed to rebuild and grow is an unnecessary story (which is why it Thrall was the only real Horde character of note in WoD; the Horde was even more irrelevant in Legion; then villain batted again in BfA).
You do care actually.
If Blizzard actually used my suggestion the Purge of Dalaran would have been a way bigger deal and we would have had a character like Aethas who is tormented as everything was his fault and pursues power as a counter balance to what happened to Jaina.
Yeah, nothing like sentencing Aethas to a death sentence like that. If you haven’t noticed, vengeance has never been a motive that has worked out for anyone on the Horde other than Sylvanas; and RARELY are our characters allowed to survive such a course (unlike the Alliance’s).
There is nothing more dangerous for a Horde character than attempting to take vengeance; and seeking a “power” to help them attain it … its pretty much writing a suicide note (either in the form of them just failing in the act to attempt such vengeance; or them sacrificing themselves as some form of repentance for their “wrong” path).
Blizzard missed the boat on Aethas and instead reduced him to a complete clown who hands over perhaps the most prized Sin’dorei artifact to beg for re-entrance to a city that has twice treated his people like garbage. Aethas can stay home, Rommath was right (as always) about Dalaran and the Kirin Tor.
Imagine a character with legitimate grievances finally puts their revenge to rest.
All the things you are saying happened to the Alliance and yet no character has been sacrificed for it. So why are you so opposed to it and keep defending Blizzard’s idiotic story?
Now you are just making things up. You are sensationalizing based on nothing.
Stop defending Blizzard. Move on. They can do better. You know they can.
How on earth was this defending Blizzard? Its me stating the cold harsh reality that things don’t turn out well for Horde characters that even for a moment flirt with the Dark Side (hell, Saurfang has so many damned Doomhammer parallels right now it would be a miracle if he survived BfA). The Alliance character get absolved of their evil acts in the name of a personal vendetta; the Horde characters … get absolved largely through a suicidal self-sacrifice play.
First, they took out a small village of civilians, and left the bodies to rot in the street (Silverwind Refuge). Then, they liquefied an entire town into blighted goo (Southshore). Then, the blew up an entire city into purple arcane dust (Theramore). And now, they’ve burned an entire city and region, and most of it’s population to ash (Teldrassil).
The next stage in their growth is obviously to destroy the planet herself. Insert timeskip, then WoW2 or WCIV.
So you’ve got 3 valid military targets and a victim of the balancing because it was a mistake to stick higher level alliance so close to a lower level horde town?
Side’s not like we’ve blown up the world or basically created the Emerald Nightmare out of our arrogance.
Perhaps by stymieing attempts to save the nascent titan within the world by warring over its leaking energies instead of joining forces to heal the wounds.
The horde can take all of the beatings it deserves and more, and I’m still not confident that any actual growth would come out of it. Theoretically I can get on board with the idea of tearing something down so new things can grow in its place, but while Blizzard’s done the former, I haven’t seen the latter done. I don’t really have a reason to believe that reburning the same charred story will cause any growth this time.
And personally, as for the “alliance has all of the super powerful characters” point, I’d rather the solution to that not be giving the horde super characters too. I feel that everyone else ought to be squished down somewhat.
Um… Ner’zhul and Draenor say hi? Hell, Draenor basically had the Emerald Nightmare preloaded onto it with the Primals.
No longer relevant with phasing. Hell, Horde literally get a cyclical portal now to Darkshore that they can then talk to a Bronze Dragon NPC and fly right over to Tyrande for the Alliance leader achievement or gank Alliance lowbies leveling through Darkshore whenever they want, and that obviously didn’t stop the Horde Darkshore world quests from being content.
Sure. I’m sure the innkeeper of Silverwind was a grave and dire threat to the Horde. With his arsenal of brooms and housekeeping supplies.
Of the Elves that almost blew up the world, like 95% of them and their descendents are now Horde. Birds of a feather, and all that.
The Old Gods created the Nightmare, but I take your meaning. And I accept that. Nobody’s perfect (except me). Besides, it’s more than balanced by Zul loosing G’huun upon the waking world.
Hmm … just reading this thread, and pondering if I now like the concept of the Kelpin in the Horde better than the Vulpera? Y’know what, I sort of do now (they’ve seriously grown on me). If they got a more distinct design with the Gob Racial updates (especially their facial profile) … I could genuinely see the little guys being a nice addition to the Horde.
There is this sort of innocence and “youth” within the little water Gobs that I think the Horde is lacking; and the fact that they would bring in Makrura AND Sea Giants into the faction as NPC additive Horde races (like the Mag’har did with Ogres; Gron; and Gronnlings) … is SUPER appealing. Plus, with their temperaments Blizz could absolutely justify aquatic themed druids for them.
I would be 110% annoyed if Kelpin got aquatic druid forms when I have been wanting them as glyphs for awhile now. Druids of the fin are already a thing in lore.
