The horde doesn't need a devastating defeat

One angle I’ve heard and enjoy the concept of is to have Sylvanas end up in the Shadowlands, really playing up the “Dark Lady watch over you” line into a sort of blessing. I think the details would make or break this story, but it could open up an avenue for the Alliance/rebels to defeat Sylvanas and end her personal influence in the physical world, while she still continues existing and influencing the story from one step removed.

The various explanations I’ve seen include having Sylvanas boot out Helya and take her place as a sort of Shadowlands-restricted queen of the val’kyr, or having Sylvanas take up a post similar to Bwonsamdi as a shepherd of Forsaken (and maybe others) souls in the Shadowlands to protect them from the bad afterlife she experienced. I think either of those could be an interesting path for her character, and it would let Sylvanas accomplish her goal of avoiding eternal tormet in that bad afterlife, while still removing her from the current player’s experience. And it adds another cool plot if the story heads into the Shadowlands.

What do Sylvanas supporters or former fans think of this or other compromises?

This would be my ideal scenario honestly. While I love Sylvanas as a character, I don’t particularly enjoy her as Warchief. I think she works best as one of those characters who you know is kind of shady, but she keeps it behind the scenes so you put up with her. Not when all her messiness is out in the open.

I love the bit about her protecting the Forsaken from that awful afterlife. She’s been kind of crumby to them lately and completely consumed with her Edge of Night motivations (which I hate) so I think if she is able to avoid her own afterlife, it could open her up to some character growth where she may learn to care about the Forsaken as people not tools.

No, I am not. That was an honorable act. A single act does not make the entire War of the Thorns honorable. Saurfang acknowledged that there would be no honor to be had in either victory or death. He repeats this sentiment at Lordaeron, too, in “Old Soldier”:

Varok Saurfang: There will be no glory today.
    Varok Saurfang: Only pain.

They didn’t deserve any part of the War of the Thorns.

Sylvanas never should have been allowed to be warchief to begin with. She broke Horde laws at Gilneas and indeed Blizzard never had Garrosh, Vol’jin, nor the Horde at large punish her for it.

At the very least they would have Anduin scold Tyrande the way Varian scolded Jaina for Dalaran and Anduin scolded Genn for Stormheim, and after A Little Patience, no one wants that again, either.

Problem with this is that it leaves night elves without… nothing.
like, i understand that you don’t want four fav character killed and especially at the hands of the other side, i know that i would have ranted if blizzard killed jaina in dazarzalor.

but blizzard really ruined… everything with teldrassil, the villain bat has been extreme. like the fact that they make some fan favorite character and a playable faction do that is just… retarded i don’t know what the hell was blizzard thinking other than just shock value and “evoke emotion” because “thats their goal in storytelling”

maybe is just me but i feel like we are kinda hostages of this story and also masochists.
the story is so incredibly bad. it is sad.

I’ve been on that boat the moment they had her burn Teld since there’s no way back from that where the character remains around. Her becoming an Eyir or Helya style figure for the Forsaken is 100% the best case scenario for me, I just dont want her defeat to be humiliation corn. (Can’t use the word that starts with p).
A small selfish hope would be that they add a way to go to wherever she’s chilling, like Eyirs vault style, so you can see her.

This is a neat idea but also worrying and feels a littke bad to me. I mean it gets ger out of the piture without removing her but she suffers no negitive consequences for everything gets what she wants snd basically becomes a death god.

Her negative consequences are her defeat, the failure of her plans and the loss of faith in her by likely her people when she reveals wahtever crazy plan the writers give her and her people not having a home anymore as well as being pariah’s to the horde which will be in full zug zug honor good mode when Baines in charge.

She avoids a bad afterlife she doesn’t care about her people so once she is a death god screw them and she getd to grow in power the more souls hlsge or her people kill. She gets everything she wants and more

As recently as BtS, yeah she does care about them. She vents to Nathanos that she could have saved them if she got Eyir.

She cares sbout them as tools as slaves as things to be used and traded she does not love them if she could gain her personal goal at the cost of all of them she would not hesitate.

That hasn’t been proven yet, likely to be proven when the writers 900d plan is revealed, but she has not reason to vent to Nathanos and only using good words about them if she didn’t actually care, nor would she go personally talk with the ones who got rejected by their families. She’d just be smug that she was right about the rejection.

She knows she needs them she wants them to think she cares because that helps keep them loyal. She used to think of them as expendable arrows now they are her shield aginst death.

Then why would she vent in priavte about wanting to save them to just Nathanos, whos on board with anything she does? She’s not grandstanding for anyone that cares.

I see how this might be gratifying for Sylvanas’ fans. Not too sure how great it is for Alliance or Night Elf fans. Sounds like Siege of Orgrimmar - Electric Boogaloo, but we don’t even get the consolation prize of putting the evil War Chief on trial.

Even he has shown doubt even he needs reasurance she isnt using him and them for just herself

And that’s why I think the details of how this idea happens will be really important.

Personally, if this happens, I would want Sylvanas to be defeated first, and for her to be surprised/outwitted once in a major way. I wouldn’t want her to be completely outplayed at every turn, which would dilute the impact of finally outwitting the schemer, but I think it needs to happen at least once.

My own personal wish is for her to have a big plan to get transformed into a powerful, autonomous death deity even after her defeat, and have those plans get sabotaged by the Alliance (and maybe rebels, but I’m not sure how popular that would be) so that Sylvanas ends up as a more vague, Shadowlands-only figure with limited powers. The Forsaken could still revere her, she could get out an occasional message, but she is mostly out of the picture until/unless the game gets a Shadowlands expansion.

Maybe her limited autonomy could become a reason why she begins to depend more on her Forsaken and grow to appreciate them as individuals rather than arrows or shields.

Look, think what you want I’m tired of getting this stuff in any situation that has any slight spin on a decent enough ending for a character thats been dragged through the mud and ruined. The question was to sylvanas fans and if they would like it, not this.

I can live with that and heck maybe Tyrande will have a snarky response to him.
I much prefer that than the AVATAR OF VENGEANCE reduced to yet another apologetic mess.

Both factions need their warhawks.

Problem is if she becomes like s desth god then the more souls she has the more power she gsins so anyone that can hear her messsge would likely be told to kill as many things as possable

Yep i honestly dont think there is a good way to end it sadly i hsve no solution as to me all resolutions suck .
