See, typically if I dont like a game, I just dont play it. I dont spend hours and hours of my time playing something I hate and then coming on the forums to tell people who do enjoy it how much it actually sucks. I have better things to do with my time.
Ok to be fair though here. That guy is literally a former dev from back in the vanilla days and broke off from the company since then, and has done nothing but flame them because he is bitter that his own game he made never took off and was embroiled in legal issues.
That guy unironically has a massive chip on his shoulder. So take anything he says with a massive grain of salt.
You won’t be able to convince the people that they’re being taken for a ride in terms of the shop and the 6 month mounts.
Their arguments are:
“Every other game has a cash shop.”
or
“Company needs to make money. Shocker”.
They don’t understand the basic concept of what made Blizzard great. They’re too busy prancing around on their brand new mounts which Blizzard gave them for free after they locked in as a loyal customer for 6 months.
Why do you think Blizzard started this practice? It is:
1. They saw the disaster in BFA
When people were quitting in huge numbers especially before 8.2 came out and they began doing these 6 month sub mounts with a focus on retaining players while making them believe they were the winners by giving them a cosmetic. The content kept getting worse till 8.2 but did the people worry about it? No some of them didn’t realize till they were well into their 6 month sub that they were taken for a ride. Even today this happens.
There were people who blindly locked in at the beginning of Shadowlands and defended Blizzard but then realized they were taken for a ride when the content which launched was little and 9.1 was also delayed.
It’s the new free mount factor which lasts for a few days before they realize they’ve been suckered in. Hook line and sinker.
2. They’ve capitalized on some people’s feelings that it’s okay to have microtransactions because all they need to do is pay and get a cosmetic
They used to design great stuff to be unlocked through hard achievements or designed good content to earn them. Like for example the cloud mounts in pandaria or Ashes of Al’ar in TBC. Or the Netherwings in TBC.
They started testing the waters by releasing cosmetic store mounts and when some people rebelled against a store mount in a sub game, there were others who defended Blizzard and this was taken to be a sign of it being okay because when you have assured yourself that people will defend this as though it’s normal, slowly other things start creeping in while maintaining that it’s “not a pay to win” game.
They used the excuse of gold sellers to profit off Tokens instead of just continuing to curb gold sellers.
Knowing that people will notice the trend of too many cosmetics being added to the store, they hid the transmog and the mount behind the 6 month sub giving them and their defenders an excuse to defend the move stating that people are getting it for free while they do the real thing: Include it on the store.
The bottomline is this: People defending Blizzard left and right on the inclusion of store specific mounts and cosmetics are the ones who have dragged a pioneer in MMORPG down to the level of other games.
Your denial won’t change the fact that he brings up WoW multiple times in key points, especially regarding Asmongold switching games and AAA companies not understanding games.
It’s all connected, but you need to have blinders on to not see his focus on WoW. The issues with Blizzard extend to pretty much the entire AAA industry (at least in NA,) so it was a general point being made, but that’s merely the foundation of his arguments.
This is the strawman you’ve made here. No one has said he is ONLY talking about WoW.
It’s not taken out of context, it’s simply something you don’t want to come to terms with.
I can’t really link the tweet because it’ll do it’s stupid “populate” with data thing and show off some bad words from someone he’s quoting…buuuuuut…
It’s really stock mmo meta at its core, with fetch quests, etc. but with some great stand out features for those that love the genre.
If you never liked the genre, this won’t change your mind. What I’m doing with my new MMO is changing the meta.
Hey look everyone, he’s bad mouthing a competitor!
You have obviously be reading my posts, please don’t be selectively mute in an attempt to make yourself appear right with a pathetic “gotcha” move.
I clearly said I quit shadowlands not long after it came out, that is a long time ago now considering how long your content drought has been, what systems have been changed since then I don’t know and tbh I dont want to know, I’m done with this garbage game.
If you still enjoy paying for boosts meta and having your game design centered around token sales and having everything time gated so you have to stay subbed longer and enjoy predatory systems forcing players to login everyday all the power to you, I’m done.
Are you not part of real life? Are you unemployed for your whole life? Businesses do that literally forever. Hospitals do that , do you go to their forums and complain about it also or just here?
