"The focus moved from gameplay to monetization metrics"

– WoW Dev

Are there still people that don’t believe this is happening? Im really curious now that we’ve herd it from the horses mouth, making it pretty indisputable.

whelp, answer found, soon this game will be nothing but people circle swallowing each other over bad decisions.

Nameless WoW Dev? Is this from the “leak” that’s been making its waves lately?

Do u have a source or is this just bait?

one tweet in a longer, fuller context thread.

This is taken out of context, he’s talking about all games in general from AAA studios, not just about WoW. Meaning other game studios do the same thing, and the trend will continue.

this, and folks have ignored that FF14 also has been doing this crap too

That’s pretty obvious unless you are trying to paint an anti-WoW narrative…which I am sure the OP would never do

The 3 top MMOs all have very active cash shops. You definitely can’t just point this at WoW

It absolutely is not, he’s relating it all to his time with WoW. When he mentions “monopoly” in comparison to FF14, hes specifically talking about wow, as he stated.

A video game company, trying to make money? Gasp, when did that happen?

It’s kind of hard to take this guy seriously with him being so naive. Does he think investors just threw money at Blizzard for the lols?

There are some fools who still believe their feedback will change the game more than their $ and time played metrics.

Can’t help the ignorant just smile and wave/

This was already posted and reported.

I do agree with the sentiments but none of us have any way to determine it’s legitimacy. As far as we know it’s larpbait.

You must be reading something I’m not. He links the “supposedly from Blizzard” information, makes a comment about the trend from AAA studios and AAA devs toward gamers and the theme of monetization.

Then in subsequent replies he goes back to the concept of monetization and gives a brief history of the growth of monetization in game development. At that point, he’s no longer exclusively talking about Blizzard or WoW.

The key statement the OP focuses on, is on the subsequent comments about monetization in games, removed from WoW specifically.

and even if it is true, nobody’s going to take a disgruntled former dev seriously

Yeah he did work for Blizzard but his credibility is in question because of some scandals he was involved post-Blizzard - he’s not the first guy I would trust to give impartial views on what’s going on with Blizzard.

But I can foresee one thing - that Blizzard will be shifted to mobile and F2P - I mean I sense that’s coming from what I’ve read in the quarterly reports - maybe I’m paranoid.

I still stand by the belief that WoW’s is one of the least intrusive and egregious by comparison to the other ones. I’m actually fairly happy that Blizzard hasn’t gone full cash shop like other MMOs, so that’s definitely a positive in their corner.

From the same post: “It may not be legit”.

clearly lmfao…
“whats a wow gamer supposed to think?”

“The rest is history. The King is dethroned, an expression of shock on his face.”

id love for you to explain what you think he means by this xD if not wow.

you should become a journalist, youd fit right in.

let me finish the quote for you.

“but the attitude described about monetization and how devs view gamers, and hate of streamers is true overall in AAA dev.”

Because I believe in accurate quoting and not re-posting clickbait third-party posts. Thank you for that compliment.

Anyone who isn’t comatose knows this.

I’m discounting anything inside that “leak” because it’s unconfirmed. I’m going off the tweets Grummz makes, starting with “Supposedly this is a Blizzard leak…” ending with “It may not be legit” and the subsequent tweets he makes talking about monetization.

If you’re giving credence to anything inside that supposed leak, then we can agree to disagree now because we’re arguing about different sources.
