Stockholm syndrome much?
Making flight dangerous won’t be a solution, unless the problem is too many subscribers.

I like flight too. Game is 100% better once unlocked.
Blizz needs time played metrics and will use it as one of their most powerful carrots
You can yell at gravity all day. Apple is still going to fall,
They don’t want flying because they feel it invalidates the experience they wanted people to have on the ground.
So the real way they should be going is to make the new content which is endgame content anyway built for flight from the start.
No that doesn’t mean NPCs that dismount you on sight. It means however having some obstacles and yes, some NPCs in the skies to worry about.
we can talk until we are all blue in the face the sad fact is nothing short of a lawsuit is going to get Blizzards attention on this matter since theyre so adamant about forcing pathfinder down our collective throats even if it costs WoW in the process
sometimes I think they secretly want to kill off retail WoW and they figure what better way to do it than by slowly but methodically driving off people with these kinds of asinine development changes?
death of a 1000 cuts rather than pull the plug at once and be done with it
No thank you.
Flight I’d like a pandora box opened in BC. It’s unfortunate it has come in conflict with the way level designers rather do things… like it doesn’t exist… until pathfinder.
It’s awkward and clumsy to loose it every time.
I think it would be more elegant to create some gameplay with flight that naturally creates those obstacles needed to guide the player experience in a level.
Edit:
Or remove flight altogether… Seehlvanyas broke the glass ceiling… maybe the skies are scorched and haunted, nothing can fly now. PLAY with flight, have some fun with it, be creative. But just… “no peoples, we want you stay on ground cause… levels are just designed that way…”
Ugh… they can do better.
Then don’t play. It’s fairly black and white.
Goodness, you’re right! Why didn’t I think about that?
Thank you for your kind words.
Or use a Goblin Glider
I still dont understand why they just dont make flying dangerous. And in this new shadowlands realm, they can really play with it.
Hell, they kinda did this on mechagon island.
But im talking about big lightning storms, flying mobs that can possibly knock you out of the air, etc.
Then later down the road, you can earn pathfinder 2 which opens up quests to earn immunities to these.
Flight doesn’t need to be made more dangerous to make it work in content. Look at how “dangerous” they have made ground mount usage since WoD.
Instant daze mechanics, NPCS clustered all over or near roads, sharp drop offs over cliffs, etc.
Their crusade against players ability to navigate zones to hide their lazy work with zone design is too transparent.
Flying was fine. Blizz tried to remove flying but received massive backlash. They compromised and created pathfinder. Then they created a 2 part pathfinder. Then they delayed flying for a year.
Blizzard created something and then deemed it to be a problem when it wasn’t. Blizz did not want to develop zones around flying. This is either due to budgetary reasons or pure laziness.
Trying to take something away, having opposition to said decision and then giving in a little bit is called compromise. Regardless of whatever word you wish to use, Blizzard compromised due to massive backlash from the player base.
All of this has been in the game from the beginning. Badlands, ungoro, blasted lands, STV, desolace… TBC had the same and so did all xpacs. The largest difference would be the size of zones and density.
No!
Daze mechanic has never been 100% from behind players until very recently.
Also the roadways did not have cluttered NPCs in classic zones and also the vertical scale wasn’t even close to what they do in current zone design.
Current zone design is very anti ground mount and they sequester flying mounts which means they want players to rely on instant teleports like hearthsones and flying whistles which is all anti immersive to the World of Warcraft. And it emphasizes the point that the game is heavy instanced based (eg island expeditions and warfronts).
The reasonable solution is to go back to the way it was when wow was the most successful. Flying right at max level for a low cost. Flying doesn’t need to be so restricted. Make fun content and people will stick around to play even with flying despite what anti flying people will tell you.
I would love it if Blizz went back to the wrath or mop design choices. Large zones, flying at max, interesting classes, classes that are not pruned to the point of being played with one hand or a console controller, talent points, pvp vendors, dungeon and raid currency vendors and fun and large pvp zone.
My compromise is probably I get to keep flying but I have to find another game to do it.
I really don’t like your idea either btw.
They tried this in BC if I recall. A lot of people complained about being knocked off their mounts so they quit trying this.
Though I do like how they did this in Mechagon.
Absolutely agree.
How people havent been fired from WoD forward is beyond me.
I get making a costly mistake…but to double down on those mistakes indicates they werent mistakes. it was intentional. Even if it werent intentional the first time…it sure as hades was the second, third, fourth…
This team would last three ball games tops if we were talking college football. Our college team here (Ohio State) is top tier every year and its because our coaches dont make excuses. They do the job or they are removed. They go on a losing streak and theyre gone. Its just business.
How on earth we can have a losing streak (sub numbers) THIS long in this game and people not be forcibly replaced is both sad and laughable simultaneously.
you mean being shot down?
Thats tells a pretty sad story about this player base, if thats the case.
What kind of logic says I CANT be shot down by an enemy?
My most memorable death in World PvP was a hunter shot me out of the sky with Murder of Crows. Im still talking about it two years later.
If players would choose WAITING for a year for flight over that idea…yeah…no wonder blizzard pulls the crap they pull.
