It’s absolutely mind blowing to see how different Classic WOTLK plays and feels from retail WoW. To think that at one point retail WoW used to be, and then completely changed design formula’s from the founding developers of the game and have created what it is today.
I’m not saying one version is better than the other. Even if I favor Old WoW design vs new. It’s just mind blowing how these two game share the same name, but feel like TWO completely different games.

feels the same to me. level up. do dungeons. do raids. do bgs til ur eyes bleed for basic pvp gear so u can finally play the real content that is arena. yep same thing.

I’ve genuinely tried to ‘get into’ Retail and I just can’t do it. The intro zone is so tedious, and I have absolutely no idea what to do or where to go on any of my existing toons. Azeroth is dead.

Classes feel way worse to play in Shadowlands imo. I HATE holy power for Paladins in general and I miss having Seals.

The concepts are the same pretty much. Except class design is 100% different and end-game goals have changed. I feel like class design in WOTLK is far superior to that of retail. Classes are just fun. The whole every class needs a “unique” energy/spell/holy bar to balance or weave into their rotations lost me. It’s not fun at all. End-game content in Classic is raids and PvP. End-game in retail is mythic plus, and Esport pvp.
The concept of level, do dungeons, do raids, and bg’s for basic pvp gear so you can finally play the “real” content is the same for pretty much every MMO. So I guess every MMO is the same?
Retail feels like Diablo 3 to me, pull everything and faceroll.
original Blizzard set out to make 1) games that were fun and 2) Accessible to the casual player. when Activision acquired them they exclusively hired devs that were good at creating as many treadmills as possible to keep players subscribed longer, or more to the point, keep giving Activision $$$ while minimizing resources spent on creating fun and novel content.

Not gonna lie, after playing classic and tbc, wrath actually feels far closer to retail now. Like, sure we have talents, and old abilities, but so much is gone from the feel of the game. Wrath really was the beginning of the end, we just didnt feel it until cata

I agree and I think this is because of achievements tbh
modern wow feels different due to much harder mechanics, much higher APM and generally requires a lot more skill to be competitive. Mistakes are much more punishing and also has unseen heights of end game content that 80% simply cannot master.
Vanilla and TBC were the definition of what’s NOT an accessibility.
Retail is the definition of accessibility.
Heck, Cata introduced LFR that is sole purpose to show real casuals easy end game content and all elitist hate it though it doesn’t affect them ONE BIT.
Some say game got worse, but no1 admits the fact that it’s us that cause a lot issues, And classic only proved it once again.
Lol thought you were serious until this part
WYM?
WW & OL are over 110 APM.
A lot of the issue with accessibility is TIME accessibility, not skill
To an extend, it’s true. Casuals in Wrath could potentially raid 10’s and even 25’s, especially if rest is geared, and casuals cannot do M20+…but there is LFR, low keys. Normals are a cake walk too.
I’m saying that one is better than the other. Just as someone who plays both, that’s my take on it.
Right, but for pvp for example, having to grind over 450k honor, when you get 2k from a bg, just to get entry level gear, thats just too much of a barrier to entry for people to even want to bother
Everyone knows wrath pve is a zzz snorefest
I enjoy real talent trees too. I like all the class specific stuff that retail got rid of.
Been saying that for years.
It’s funny because everyone hated farming soulshards…so they got rid of it.
Everyone hated storing 20k+ arrows/bullets, so they got rid of it.
People hated that there is always 1 best hunter pet, so they made them all equal.
People hated the idea of needing to enchant and gem every gear piece…so they got rid of it.
…i’m sure I could think of a lot more.
Don’t forget that a lot of today’s WOW is what made it to be.
Not everyone. Most people never said a word. Blizzard just changed them because like 1% of people complained.
If that 1% was the only one to provide feedback, and no1 stood up against it, that’s the only feedback they got.
It’s like not voting against something/someone you don’t like and then get shocked when they get elected or something passes.
