Yes, era sucks. Way to out yourself as a tourist though, none of the vanilla playerbase wants era either. Non-progressive isn’t vanilla my young student.
Do you have a link to retail count of logs, would love to see it.
My guess is mostly based on their forums which are about as active as the SoD ones. I doubt they have 10x the players and the same forum activity.
Vanilla was progressive until TBC came out. I dont play era. I played 2019 classic and then went to TBC classic and WOTLK classic.

Personally I do not have enough experience with warcraftlogs to see the “total” weekly amount of parses for a boss or a raid, but I have seen posts on twitter/wowhead when this discussion was brought up and there is a way to see how many parses are submitted. If I can figure it out i will post the data.
Yeah that number is insanely wrong I saw it on a few sources when i googled, which is why I asked for real logs.
You realize that 130 million people is INSANE amount - like over 1/3rd the USA right?
Year | Subscription Numbers | Expansion Release |
---|---|---|
2015 | 5.5 million | |
2016 | estimated 5.7 million | Legion |
2017 | estimated 5.4 million | |
2018 | estimated 5.2 million | Battle for Azeroth |
2019 | estimated 5 million | |
2020 | estimated 4.9 million | Shadowlands |
2021 | estimated 4.7 million | |
2022 | estimated 4.6 million | Dragonflight |
2023 | estimated 4.5 million |
This table is somewhere and it makes a lot more sense, but still feels inflated.
I think it is around 200-500k daily active users on retail.
You realize the US isn’t the entire world, right?
did you not see the god awful BTA items they put in?
lmfao
They couldn’t be more lost if they tried.
You realize how clearly wrong that 130 mil subscribers is right?
It’s not saying 130million subscribers. it’s 130million daily players. What that means is every character that leaves a footprint on wow is tracked. If I parse on 8 characters in 1 day or someone runs an M+ on 12 different characters, it counts each character.
It tracks in/out traffic. 130 million different CHARACTERS log in and out of WoW each day
Player or character?
And even if it was characters I don’t believe it. The data is obviously wrong by an order of magnitude.
No, it’s pretty accurate. If you check Warcraftlogs right now and look how many retail parses are submitted each minute, it’s alot.
Don’t forget raider io for M+
You think there are 130 million players, or character on wow???
Bruh, at their high they had 11 mil subs and its been decades since that. But each player is raiding with 10+ characters???
Or you think magically in the last year they gained 10x their subscription numbers and only a few sites managed to pick it up?
There is no way to rationalize that data as not being totally wrong if one has even a basic level of statistics.
You’re not reading/comprehending. I get it, its late. He’s saying unique CHARACTERS, not unique ACCOUNTS. People got a lot of alts in retail my guy.
Yes read my second sentence. If there are 10 million subs (which we know there are not) for 130 million toons every player is raiding weekly on 13 characters, which we also know is false.
We know it is closer to 5mil subs at most - which would mean the average player is raiding with 26 toons each week.
My guy, I don’t play anymore, but I have like 10 Ally and 12 Horde characters. A mid-level M+ takes 20 minutes. You’re telling me it isn’t feasible to run 10-15 through in 2-3 hours. Now think about high level people doing splits for gear drops, etc. You just don’t understand the monster that is retail because you haven’t played it. It’s actually insane and why I don’t play retail (modern).
There’s also 4 different raiding difficulties, across multiple phases of raids. Theres a -lot- to do. And running alts is FAR easier than it is in classic.
I don’t need to play the game to know that 130 million players (which is what that site claims) or even characters - is just false and bad data.
From the website: Note: this list is sorted by total players.
There aren’t more than 500k daily users on retail and even that is a generous number.
Total subs (including mine, wotlk, SoD, retail, prob around 5mil)
There is more than just raiding on retail. Theres M+ too. theres 4 different difficulties. LFR, normal, heroic, mythic. You’re so out of touch.
That doesn’t matter, there aren’t millions of daily active users on it, the game isn’t that popular.
There are maybe a few million subs and a few hundred thousand daily active users. Maybe they hit 1 mil + concurrent users when they release content, but even then I’d be a bit surprised.
