The Character Menu is a Disaster

Even when i try to organize a list in the mumbo jumbo. few minutes to test, as soon as you close game reopen your changes to the organization isnt saved. Should be a button to view everything as classic as a quick temporary fix.

if all my characters across two realms are now listed on one page, why is there still a ā€œrealmā€ button at the top which for actually does nothing since it just refreshes the page giving you once again the entire list of all chars.

who is responsible for this mess?

20 years been playing two realms: alliance on one and all horde on another. and now all combined on one page.

I donā€™t play consoles. But I canā€™t help wondering if the visual look of this UI is something Microsoft thinks will work better for the Xbox?

Oh God, I feel your pain.

I have alts on many realms but in my case I gave them all different names because Iā€™d be mailing things. Iā€™m glad I did. I canā€™t imagine how bad it is if you reuse the same name (as many people did).

We just need an opt out of this character selection until itā€™s production-ready. It is currently so feature-incomplete right now.

So I have 120+ alts on 2 accounts. Each account is an absolute unorganized mess. I donā€™t necessarily expect Blizzard to cater to my use case because itā€™s not typical. I am in a fvery small percentage of players with a huge number of alts. I get it.

But your case (playing Horde on one realm and Alliance on another) is so common, Iā€™m incredulous that itā€™s been ignored. It really makes me wonder if the people deciding on these features play the game at all. Or maybe they just play one toon. Who knows?

But for anyone with more than 6 toons this feature is a strict downgrade from what we had. Before we had folders. You might call them ā€œrealmsā€. Now we have a single list with no sort options and no filters.

I really donā€™t care that 4 random toons are around a campfire. That is of zero use to me.

I donā€™t know what that means, but Iā€™ll kill it before it kills me.

I would love a sorting system. I know I will spend a good amount of time doing it myself but I was shocked they donā€™t have at least an alphabetize button, thatā€™s a basic organization concept.

And level. Wish you could search by level range (eg 20-30) and realm.

With the new character menu screen, itā€™s hard to tell if a specific server is down until you attempt to log into a character on it.

(thereā€™s a ā€œrealmsā€ popup list now ā€¦ not sure if thatā€™s new or if I just missed it existed somehow)

lol Itā€™s really very bad in fact. What a messy and ugly way for them to organize the new screen.

The warband screen is also very diablo-esque andā€¦wellā€¦cheap feeling. Itā€™s jarring to have characters from every realm lumped into the same screen yet have four of them - for some reason - segregated into their own little grouping.

Overall interesting idea but as usual cheap and poor execution by Blizz.

I thought I would like it, but I really just think it looks janky. The characters have their weapons out sometimes, but sometimes donā€™t, and when they do the clipping is just horrible looking. Sometimes the characters are kneeling with the weapon drawn arm position, but the weapon is still sheathed on the back. It would honestly be better if they were just standing there looking dead than it is now.

And yes, you can ā€œdisableā€ it, sort of, by removing any ā€œfavoriteā€ characters from it and leaving all characters in the main list. HOWEVER, even if you minimize the Favorites section, once you log into a character and then log back out, the Favorites section is maximized again. It should, at the very least, remember the ā€œminimized/maximizedā€ state of the Favorites section until you change it.

Itā€™s not faster to log in, since when you go to a character thatā€™s on a different realm than you are on currently, itā€™s going to change realms anyway. Itā€™s just done behind the scenes, more or less, but it still takes the same amount of time.

It takes longer to find a character if you have many, and yes, I know about the search bar. Sometimes you just need to look at a character to know if itā€™s the right one, rather than searching by name or whatever other thing. Having it all separated by realms was better. And really, I have a pretty good memory for where my characters are across four realms, all of which have both factions, but the way they did this still sucks.

All in all, I donā€™t like the changes to the character selection screen at all. It was fine the way it was.

My hunter stands in a stance as if heā€™s holding his weapon but itā€™s just chilling on his back lol.

Speak for yourself, youngā€™un ā€“ and get off my lawn!

the new character select screen is pretty cluttered and its def harder to find my characters nowā€¦ i guess if your a newer player with less than 10 characters it might be okay, but as someone that has played for 20 years its quite the mess.

A lot of people have always played WoW with different physical limitations. But since they already had the old scaling there is no reason this couldnā€™t have been a toggle for people who need a visual assist.

Totally agree with you, I was just pointing out that itā€™s not just old people who may have vision issues, as was indicated in the post I was originally referencing.

I am wondering the ratio who uses the ā€œmodernā€ scream vs ā€œclassicā€ if the option is given.

Then order them by realm? that is what I did, or by guild. which ever.

thereā€™s a search bar. Iā€™m trying to be helpful, not snarky. I understand wanted to organize things, but atleast you can always get the character you want quickly with the search.

Yeah this is trash. Thankfully I only have 4 max level characters.

I have played WOW for years, and you know what? I love the warbands load screen, and the changes to the ui, Thiis has needed to happen for years! So if it takes me a little time to get things organized so what!

Love the changes Blizz
