The Character Menu is a Disaster

Very happy with the new load screen. Also makes me long for something like the Garrison but more customizable and where all your toons hang out as NPCs when you’re not actively playing them.

As an aside, near the top of this post I saw, and I paraphrase “I can’t remember all my toon names.” Like, even at 50, what?

I just logged on for the first time 5min ago and this was my exact same thought, lol.

I resemble that remark (at least my eyes) and even then it’s too much. I already sit more than three feet from my monitor and had to lean back by another foot to feel even remotely comfortable. Everything’s far too big for a standard monitor and there’s way too much visual stimulus added to the map I can’t stand to look at it.

That’s because you’re a warrior.

i didnt notice till you said something so i wish they would have made that more obvious. all the enormous text changes and they make it the smallest thing

I’ve played for years too. So what am I missing? I hear people cheering this on but haven’t seen anything to actually say why. What is it bringing to the table that wasn’t there with the old UI except visuals? The only thing that will be an ‘improvement’ for some people is the Favorites that present a few alts that are most (recently) played.

It seems to violate a basic business principal by removing the alts sorted by realm. If you have a popular product, never remove a feature that is used by a lot of customers unless it is to support something better. I’m not seeing the ‘better’ that required the change.

I mean, Google is doing this with the Fitbit watches by removing smartwatch features. But they are doing it to promote Google smartwatches. So what is the goal here?

You need to realize that not everyone approaches the game the way you do. Most people have played this game for years, some for over a decade, and as of this coming November, some for a generation.

Many people don’t play the game all the time. People may have 50+ alts they have rolled over the years but only play the game a few months out of the year and then only play 4 or 5 of their alts. Remembering 50 game character names that they will only use every few years may not be a priority for everyone.

I have the same and feelings. I hate the new lineup. I wish it were an option to have it the old way only have warbands collapsable at the top, and have characters still replaceable just only with characters available on your chosen available selection type.

Interesting to assume my playtime and experience…

Been here since TBC, take months long breaks. I don’t remember all my toon’s names casually, but the idea that i can’t keep them straight enough to use a aearch function by name or class is a bit odd.

As another person that has over 50 characters, trying to find the one I want to play is /sarcasm on/ a bit harder /sarcasm off/ on a scroll down menu with over 50 choices.

Blizzard, please give us options on how to organize the character selection list, even alphabetical would be better than this mishmash of characters we have now. Even going in and selecting a Realm List, still brings up all 50+ characters.

Choices like, listing them by realm, or by name, or by class, or by level (which wouldn’t help me much, all but one are lvl 70, and that one is in the Remix), or by last played (what seems to be the only choice today).

This last wouldn’t help me much, as I often play four or five on any given day, and then not play them again for over a week.

I didn’t say anything about how or how long you play. Just that other people may be different than you.

“I don’t remember all my toon’s names casually, but the idea that i can’t keep them straight enough to use a aearch function by name or class is a bit odd.” Sorry, I don’t know what this means. You either remember what your alt’s name is or you flounder around looking for something close. Especially for people who have deleted dozens of toons over the years to go with new names.

I’m sure this works for some people and everyone that remembers all their toon names across multiple expansion and multiple MMOs. But some people were obviously going to find it a pain in the *** change. And again, what was the point of the change?

Its a complete disaster. You have no way of quickly glancing which characters belong to which realm, and they’re all out of order (seemingly random?).

This reminds me a bit of the rollout for Warcraft III: Reforged.
They took something that was damn near perfect, and make it worse in every way possible for the sake of change.

The Warband screen is so half-baked.

At the very least if they want to go the “Warband” route, then you need to be able to make multiple Warbands and have the ability to seamlessly toggle between them on the select screen. That way, you can organize characters through the very Warband concept and assign each Warband a designation of your choosing.

“Horde Warband” “Alliance Warband” “Mat Farming Warband” “Fun Alts Warband” etc. etc. (Being able to name your warband would be a good idea, too)

I don’t remember seeing it mentioned and just ran across it on the game options.

If you go into Menu on the character selection screen and choose Options->Graphics you can use the ‘Use UI Scale’ slider to reduce the scale. I moved mine from 85% to 65% (minimum on mine) and it helped reduce the size some.

I agree… Put it back to the way it was… I don’t want all my characters on one list… I don’t mine jumping from realm to realm to log on a character… The new ways doesn’t work… We should have the option to use either the new way or the old way

You can arrange your character list as you see fit. This might take some time, but you can allocate your characters per server by grouping them together by proximity. You can also search for a specific character up at the top if you’re having trouble finding one.

You can also use a keyword search. Have several rogues? Type ‘rogue’ and it will show all your rogues. This also works with races as well. Typing ‘elf’ shows literally all of your elves, blood, night and void.

I do think that a keyword search feature for servers would be useful, and also a way to have maybe a dropdown menu to only show characters from a specific realm would also be useful.

However, it’s not so bad. And even with the way that it is, it’s more convenient than it used to be in my opinion. I hated having to switch to a different server, so most of the time I didn’t. Having all my characters all in one place is more useful to me.

I’ve put characters up top that I don’t use, so the first few days I log in I’ll get all bent out of shape that somehow someone elses characters are now on my account.

Probably because servers are almost meaningless now and so are factions for the most part if I had to guess.

Good advice/feature about being able to search by class.

But someone posted earlier that when they arranged their characters on the list and logged out it reset to the default list.

I haven’t tried it yet but definitely don’t want to spend time sorting all my alts to have Blizz reset them for me. Have you logged out & in to confirm they stayed the way you wanted?

I do specialized farming. When I want to farm something, I put together a team of players that is optimized for that. For something new I may have to create a team. When I’m done with the project, I shelf them until I need them for another project.
