The ads are worse now

Just reported 13 from premade dungeons. 3 from shadowlands raids.

Fun fact, if you restart the game and you can report them all again.

It’s getting close to how bad it was before they added the level requirement. That brought it down to only being a couple of adds up at one time. But since the authenticator requirement it’s slowly been getting back to how bad it used to be.

Yeah, in retail they are advertising torghast/mt carries too; both require account share =/ In TBC the ads are much worse in lfg channel…we need more people reporting this stuff =/

I know some don’t like getting addons to make up for Blizzard issues, but there are addons out there that block posts with certain keywords like WTS and such.

can this company fix a single problem ever

The real question is why doesn’t blizzard screen for that?

It really seems like their only goal is hiding it from the people that it bothers. The report option is just a cross walk button, only hides the adds from the user who report them and then only for limited amount of time or they restart the game.

all you can do is report and encourage others to report --ignoring them or using addons is NOT the solution <3

And it took the fun away from people without cell phones lol

I doubt it. They put in that one thing where you need an authenticator. There’s no way there’s any spam now.

How would you like them to censor the ads? Someone will always find a way around it.

Maybe actually police them?

They’ve been right there in the open with links to RMT sites for two years.

But they don’t police them, they say “Don’t you have phones? That will fix the issue.”

That requires having employees. And paying people to do this 24/7. That’s not going to happen.

Took me one minute to report those 13 adds. Some of which are from names I’m seeing day after day.

From blizzard perspective it looks the problem is not the adds, but that some of us complain about them.

And the authenticator, if they aren’t policing this there’s no point to it other than to make it safer to use the services they’re refusing to police.

In fact, they got that in just in time for mage tower carries, which requires handing over your credentials.

I kinda knew this wouldn’t solve much :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Mage tower carries? The devil are you on aboot? No one can truly prevent stuff like this unless you go full on authoritarian dictatorship.

That’s not how employees work.

Erm, you shouldn’t just screen “WTS”. That is a legitimate phrase folks use when trying to use trade channels properly, not just the carry spammers.

Have a phone. Blizzard doesn’t accept my carrier as valid for SMS Protect. Nothing I can do. I’m not changing carriers for access to WoW LFG custom titles. So all in all this patch made the tool worse for me to use and I’ve never violated any of the rules.

I really dislike this solution because even if the additional requirements do end up dissuading some people from running ads and breaking ToS, it’s also inconveniencing a number of players who have not broken any such rules and were using the tool appropriately before the patch.

For a company like Blizz, I think having staff 24/7 that are able to moderate their game is probably a really important and basic thing they should be doing.

Regardless, I don’t think you need someone to monitor the LFG 24/7 in order to effectively combat the ads. Just having someone actively working on removing them during the game’s peak active hours will do a heck of a lot to combat them. No one is really caring about the ads that run at odd hours that get a few eyeballs on them, it’s the ones that fill the listings during prime time when the most players are browsing trying to find groups for legitimate activities that are most valuable to the advertisers for making money and most annoying to the players trying to use the tool to find groups to play with.

Mage tower carries are a thing people are attempting to sell. Yes.
I don’t think they can 100% prevent account sharing from happening but removing the ads decreases the amount of it happening and limits the impact. I don’t think you have to be an “authoritarian dictatorship” to enforce the ToS… just like bots and hacks, ads in LFG aren’t allowed and should get your account actioned. But it just doesn’t seem like that’s happening. After enacting the authenticator requirement we can be fairly sure these aren’t hacked or compromised accounts being used to push ads. Meaning punishments like suspensions and bans should be proving more effective now than they were before. But I’m still seeing individual ads hanging out in LFG from Friday through Sunday.

Simply put, that shouldn’t be happening if their policies were being properly enforced.

Not surprised, it only adds a few more steps, I imagine they’ve made bots now to level the toon and make new accounts to tie new authenticators to. I report as I see them, yet it definitely has made a dent into it, I just don’t think there is an effective way to stem it further other than adding an extra login step or something of the similar sort.

blizzard provides no feedback on those reports so people stopped bothering.
