No, we need people who actually care about the reports and have the competency to do something about it. Plenty of people report this, the issue is that Blizzard simply doesn’t care whatsoever.
Then you are Lizzard’s new target audience
It was a hyperbolic counter to your hyperbolic 24/7 claim.
Open lfg, find the 13 adds, confirm they have links to RMT websites, take action. It’s pretty cut and dry if they wanted to enforce their policies. Especially in this case where having add bots is just the cost of doing business. A ban wave twice a year for PR purposes would just be a “wink wink, stop it” slap on the wrist.
Imagine how smooth ones brain has to be to hand over account details and paying for this and trusting it.
Would be like paying a thief to use your ID to rob a bank and you take the fall for it as they may also rob your account of everything.
Fighting bots and automation is actually very difficult.
A.I., machine learning, etc is getting more complex every day.
After every increase to the barrier to entry, it will eventually catch up to previous levels. It just takes time. The only way to get rid of the boost advertisement is for it to no longer be profitable.
Well to be fair, this is a player created problem. After all it is players advertising the carry and other players buying them. Even if they went all draconian on it and just banned anyone who dared mention “carry”, it wouldn’t stop it. It would just move completely off line to discord and third part web sites.
The problem is with the player base.
True, but they can force them to the shadows instead of them being brazen about it.
Of course, as always people are going to adapt and overcome The only possible way to keep ads low/gone is to have someone sitting there manually refreshing and removing listings, anything else is just a hurdle to jump over.
Not likely
The second Blizzard throws a filter on the term ‘WTS’ in the group finder, the term just changes to something similar but not blocked. W.T.S. WT$. Selling. WT Sell. LTS. LT Sell. SeIIing. Or the word disappears and suddenly it’s ‘AOTC 200k’. ‘+15 200k’. ‘Boosts +15 / AOTC’.
Filtering is a very short term solution that only works on the player side right now BECAUSE Blizzard isn’t doing it themselves. You’d have to change the filter twice a week indefinitely to have any impact if it’s being done on Blizzard’s end, because that FORCES a change on the sellers.
Oh I agree that they should finally freaking enforce the rules about ads in group finder. The issue there is most of the accounts being used for that are “throw away” accounts. The real problem is the people doing it for RL cash and not gold. Those accounts need to be made an example of. If it was me, I would organize a month long sting. With GMs going undercover and buying carries for cash, then tracking everyone involved (buyer and seller). Then after one month, I would ban everyone of them and I would make it public. Once people start losing their accounts (and I am not talking about a 3 day ban, I mean delete the damn thing) it will become far less “in your face”.
maybe one day by accident
Wishful thinking. Fun dream though.
I just leave chat disabled most of the time when I’m in-game these days. Nothing to see but ads anyways.
I have found that there are a couple of good addons that fix the problem entirely. After seeing this thread I thought I would take a look and while the addon informed me it was blocking ads in the group finder, I didn’t see a single one unless I told it to show them.
Until more pop up five minutes later. And then more. And more. Over and over.
That’s not hyperbolic. That’s reality.
yeah, it’s definitely worse now. i definitely need to grab the addons again. reporting does nothing.
I don’t see how their customers should interpret their (in)actions as anything other than acceptance at this point.
Ybarra publicly talks about participating in paid carries, Tokens are sold, Blizzard makes money directly from said carries, click to report RMT ads appear to have no action with the same sellers on 24/7, etc.
Honestly, it became the norm years ago if you think about it.
I’m speaking of the LFG tool. I am not referring to trade chat. I just leave that altogether now.
