They tank one mob on the HKM fight specifically set up with a buff for a mage to spellsteal to tank it.
But yeah, that’s more legitimate tanking than anything shamans do in raid.
Nobody is saying kiting isn’t good or effective. But it’s not tanking.

Correct, which means Mages tank. So talking about whether or not a mob is kited has nothing to do with the fact that a role is being fulfilled.

That means Mages Tank that kind of boss alone, it doesn’t make them generally Tanks. What a Warlock can do against Illidan’s Demonform phase has nothing to do with a Warlock being a Tank for Illidan at any other point in time.
Don’t be disingenuous just to claim the label of Tanking.
The fact that you understand what “kiting” and what “tanking” are as distinct and separate terms already proves Wooppee correct.
These guys are clearly just trolling you at this point, but it’s worth pointing out that if we considering kiting to be “tanking” shaman is even worse at that than they’d be at just face-tanking, since without the tiny bit of extra threat you generate from white hits and chain lightning cleave your attempt at drawing mobs’ attention is instantly dead in the water and there are at least 2 classes better at kiting than you are. Even a warrior using Challenging Shout, Piercing Howl and Intervene is better at “kite tanking” than you are.

Yeah lets just glaze over that he needed two mages and a hunter to tank so that he could kite and cc his way out of how bad a shaman “tank” is, all while not being able to hold aggro. This was pretty much just a 4 dps no tank run with the mages and hunters holding threat, kiting adds, while the shaman DPS’d.

Any tank who relies on other members of their party to hold threat so they don’t die isn’t a tank, by definition. When your mage tanks the first boss and most of the trash for you, you aren’t a tank. The only thing you can argue he “tanked” was the last boss, and that is only because the DPS pretty much stopped what they were doing to accommodate him. It took him that entire fight to generate 10s worth of Feral tank threat.
Don’t worry dude a shaman’s gonna kite-tank Illidan any day now.
