I tanked as ele in all dungeons in classic. I can clear most Heroic trash with my prot pally friend as 2. If you can prevent yourself from getting one shot then you can most likely do it

You mean to say that if you bring an actual Tank you can handle all manner of trash mobs? No way!
We 2 man it, and he does with taunt only and kiting.

…right. Because a Paladin can do the majority of his threat without being present (Consecration) and you can permanently slow with totems and Frost Shock.

The point being made is that Shaman aren’t tanks and the “proof” of you doing 2-man Heroics with a PROTECTION PALADIN HOLDING AGGRO doesn’t help the case for Shaman “tanking” anything…

We kite, together, have footage of it. Shaman can possibly tank but ur attitude is shxt about it

Kiting is not tanking. Frost mages and hunters are amazing tanks if kiting is tanking.

They really can’t. This isn’t about attitude, or belief, or gumption, or grit, or anything of the sort. To Tank, you have to step up to a mob and take the hit to the face and live, while you hold that mob’s focus, and your team kills the mob and your Healer keeps you alive. Shaman can hold modest threat, but they are too squishy to do anything more than that.
That is not the point I am making. I stated the fact that we can kite Heroic trash as 2/5 players proves that the game is exploitable outside of conventional methods. That is why we keep blowing old metas out of the water. I would not be suprised to see a shaman tanking knowing that is the case, and to be overly negative on someone theorycrafting instead of opening your mind to the possibility (what people did 15 years ago) is counter productive and close minded.

That’s nice… so when you get to a boss that can’t be kited (ie all of them) what then?
No, we blow old metas out of the water with rigorous testing and models that don’t attempt to circumvent mechanics that can’t be circumvented. No amount of unconventional ranged kiting and movement will let you keep a hold of a boss while you run around like a goober trying to avoid taking a melee swing.
Plus, because Hunters can do this the best already, bosses move incredibly fast and have “no-one-in-melee-range-nukes” that one-shot or nearly one-shot people. The game is built to avoid these kinds of silly shenanigans.
It is because I theorycraft that I dismiss Shaman Tanking. This isn’t some diversity of thought social experiment where everyone gets a seat at the table. If you want to Tank, you need to be able to do the job of Tanking, otherwise you’re just LARPing and wasting everyone’s time. No one is picking your poor feelings, we’re simply stating that no matter how you add 2+2 you won’t be able get anything other than 4 as an answer.

If you have theory crafted that there is no conceivable way that a shaman can tank a heroic dungeon boss then I wont argue with you further. But if a enhance shaman was able to take a hit while keeping threat from a boss and asked if Id like to DPS his dungeon requiring some extra effort on my part, I would personally love it because its an out of the box thinking. That is my entire point.

Kiting isn’t “outside conventional methods”, and there are classes way better at doing it than a shaman.

Mages tank the HKM fight.
Did you know you can avoid damage if you kite? Did you know your healer doesn’t have to heal you as much if you avoid damage?
When I’m in groups with Hunters, Shamans, or anyone else who can deliver AoE roots and slows, you better believe I take advantage of that. While the mob struggles to hit me, my healer can draw from MP5 and Warlocks can free-cast SoC.
But nah, just stand there and take unnecessary hits and call it “tanking.”

Have you been running heroics? Meta is to get an imp blizz mage or hunter to slow mobs. Especially the base in places like shattered halls heroic
