YES! Thank you! YES YES YES
You don’t have to grind out all of them, you only get these drop if you have an essence available to you, that you haven’t purchased I have all but the PVP, and because they are not available I don’t get echo’s drop.
If you are on a healer or tank class and only dps but have unlocked the healer to tank ones you will still get therm drop because you don’t buy them, some people get them drop because they only got the ones they wanted.
I swapped main and got all o them because I hate gaps (luckily PVP ones are at the botton of the list) , so no more drops.
The lack of forethought on how this affects people is staggering. Whoever is making the decisions to keep hacking new uses onto already hacked together new currencies instead of doing it the right way. I should have thousands of currency to spend when this goes live, but I don’t.
All that is wrong because the corruption change isn’t happening at the same time as the echoes deprecation. That was posted in the hotfix notes, not here.
They cycle. that is:
It would probably be good to read the post completely.
Doesn’t make that post wrong, it merely delays it, even if its a week there is still going to be a huge discrepancy between players.
How is this fair to mains with no echoes while other toons can start with thousands? If I wouldnt have bought the dps essence that I never use on my main, I could have saved up thousands on my main. Seems really unfair.
Fair enough. It’s just not as bad as I thought. Some forethought instead of zero from the decisionmaker. I, of course, agree with you that they should just do it right to begin with but it’s obvious they’re in a “Why are we spending money on legacy code?” situation with regard to this expansion.
The only saving grace here is that since the corruption vendor isn’t ready to be pushed live, it gives the devs another day or two to realize the discrepancies they’re actively adding to the game, and they can whip up a new currency for the vendor in these extra days they bought themselves by pushing most of the changes with weekly restarts and not pushing the corruption vendor.
Although I have little hope they actually change their minds and make a better decision than the ones outlined today.
I really want to know how many corruptions are going to be available at a time from the vendor.
There are 52 different corruptions of various ranks not counting the unique raid corruptions. How long will it take to cycle through the whole roster if they stick to two batches per reset?
It may allow you time to build up echos or what have you, but I foresee this leading to “and now we wait” scenarios where we may wait a month or better to see any real payoff from this system.
This is, however, one of the first times I can recall where advancing yourself early cost yourself efficiency later.
It’s not just that people who grinded out their essences had to work harder for them, but because they did it their progression RIGHT NOW is being hindered.
This is confusing you mean essences or echoes?
I don’t disagree. I’m just glad to have some agency in the way we get corruptions instead of the RNG layered on RNG layered on RNG crap fest it was up until now. So I’m not going to complain too much. This is my main and he’s missing massive amounts of echoes because of already having Rank 3 in things, and I don’t care all that much about what I had on my alts. But I’d still rather it be like this than the RNG junk we had until now.

Kaivax, my main should not feel punished for being loyal to each patch cycle and staying up to date.
Your main should be absolutely punished for burning my main’s tree down.
Because Tzipi is my main and is played regularly with priority, she already gets nice things and before any other of my alts. That’s the reward for staying current.

Edit: I’m effectively weeks/months behind because I had every essence my main could get and wasn’t possible to get these things?
I’m in the same situation - but I don’t want the currency to be reset.
My guild has the ability to purchase corruption - which will help our raid progression.
I wouldn’t want to be selfish and pull them back just to make them even with me.
I have a guild w/ actual players. None of us have the currency.
Can preserved contaminants be used on an existing corruption that is not purified yet?
Doesn’t sound like it. It’s adding a corruption to a non-corrupted item. A non-cleansed item is already corrupted.
that’s gonna suck if you’re getting a bad corruption affix but bis secondary stats

Due to a technical limitation, items that have been cleansed cannot be re-corrupted. We are looking into whether it will be possible to fix this, but we don’t want to hold up the whole system in the meantime.
What happens when you apply the corruption to an item that has been cleansed? Does it just not allow you to do that (preferred) or does it burn the enchant in the process (feels bad)?
One reason is using it on items from the weekly chest pior to corruptions being 100%, not being able to remember which items had no corruptions on them vs being cleansed. Would feel bad burning the corruption enchant
I wouldn’t even chance it until they come back with either an official “No, we can’t do this” or “this is how you recorrupt a cleansed item” because the general theme of 8.3 stuff is “we can’t do anything about that” when players suffer a disadvantage caused by the game itself.
