Feel free to roll a tank and set the pace or feel free to go back to the pool and cry until someone lets you in their group. Just uh, be sure to let them know you’re impatient and you will be pulling for them (it’s the polite thing). I’ll never understand people like you though, you’re the reason I stick to DPS these days or healing.
I’ll expand this by saying especially in newer tanks, LET THEM LEARN OR SHOW THEM HOW! Lots of people are more than willing to try tanking but no one will teach them how and they can’t learn just by watching some stupid videos. There’s a huge difference between watching and doing.
I’ll be the guy in the corner with a big bag-0-popcorn laughing hysterically when SL’s drops and DPS are getting slaughtered pulling for the tank again
<sarcasm> Um, excuse me, *pushes up tactical gamer glasses* those are obviously for FULL HEIRLOOM BOYS leveling their 12th alts? Not for some kiddy kid n00bs trying to learn how to play. </sarcasm>
I stopped tanking for two reasons, the first was an ungodly amount of people usually rogues and hunters but not always pulling for me. The second was ZERO patients from anyone for me to learn dungeon layouts, boss mechanics (timings) and such. I could add a third I suppose which would be the nascar “go go go” race to the end only to poof and never see them again.
Im always running full looms but if someone is obviously new or tells us theyre new we run at their pace…especially healers and tanks who are hard enough to find in randoms half the time.
Given, there are HORRIBLE new tanks who cant get around their own ego without tripping over it, but there dont seem to be too many of that sort around mucking up leveling dungeons.
I never seen the reason to rely on the hunter when, i have one or two ranged abilities when i play a tank. Sure, i can ask the hunter to CC mobs, but that’s about it on what i’m going to ask the DPS to do before i pull to make the pull easier.
Also, lets not forget that hunters (unless their melee) have a tendency to screw up easily if it’s not a great or even decent player behind them if were gonna talk about pulling for them. (This of coarse applies to all DPS, but Hunters in particular with their autoshot and their Barrage that reaches as far the mastery stat goes comes to mind, or AOE speced talents and wonky pets AI)
Well i’m glad that it worked out for ya and your group.
That’s just that however, your group.
I understand it well enough, but it’s not a dice i’m willing to roll. I have tanked for about 5 years or so, as an off tank mostly and main tank, the DPS is only helpful for CCing the targets i’ve marked. Having them do the pulling really isn’t a great idea most of the time in my experience. I don’t know about everybody else, but judging from this thread, i would imagine most are on the idea of “let the tank pull and set his/her pace.”
I think this thread really shows part of what is wrong with online communities as a whole.
People expect everyone to be at their level, and anything less is unacceptable. Anyone who is at a higher level is considered “elitist” or “no-lifer” or whatever the word of the day is.
The game struggles to bring in and retain new people.
The game has a lack of tanks for random queues.
Many players have no patience for new players and especially not for new tanks.
So many people are basically toxic gatekeepers for new players and new tanks that they are only making the game worse for everyone.
When should a new player learn to tank for a group if not in a leveling dungeon?
People at the level cap have even less patience in my experience.
We all started off new at some point, try to have a little empathy and perspective instead of trying to put everyone else down.
Going back it’s usually the same people saying the same nonsense, one would have an easier time convincing a gorilla to fly than them why they’re wrong. When it comes to dungeons ALWAYS expect noobs when you queue in and you’ll never be disappointed! Even at 120 some people are just trying tanking for the first time “Well I don’t really know all my abilities so I’m gonna take it a little slower”. You get a choice you can either talk to the tank “Hey X could you pull more please I’m super bored” or you can stress them out and they say “Yeah no thanks back to dps for me”. These days I will ONLY tank if the healer and or or two other dps are guildies or friends I’ve had my fill of the nascar circuit run.
Respect the tanks roll. You wanna pull? Then be a tank.
A lot of those tanks are LEARNING that role/dungeon. If I was a new player, I wouldn’t tank for higher content if I had gone through lower level content with people who have your mentality.
I originally started playing MMOs in Rift. You could always tell the WOW players while leveling and doing dungeons. There were quite a few trash mobs that hit like absolute trucks and would single or two shot most DPS and if three were on a tank would just wear you down. Anyway they’d run ahead and grab a mob, even after being asked not too and they’d just go splat. The end game dungeons were no joke either even when raids geared it was 50/50 whether the DPS would fall over or not. Made talking a blast as there was an actual reason to CC and slow down to let the parting mobs go and then try to burn the mobs you grabbed before the parting ones came back. Good times.
I used to tank end game content on my alt cause somedays I’d just get bored being on my healer . At the time I couldn’t really get any better gear cause well there was nothing to get . So I rolled an alt for tanking. Now coming back and reading this eh probably wont ever tank if I’m expected to be perfect after not doing this for a few years and having to level and such.
I don’t tank mythics, but do tank trivial content like timewalking on multiple alts from time. I don’t mind when geared DPS pull a bit, because if I hesitate looking at map deciding on path and a DPS knows the path and pull, I can grab agro and it makes it easier. For me it is easier than trying to remember old dungeons. For healing, I’m the same way. As long as we aren’t wiping, DPS can pull all they want.
But you just know that the same people who are advocating for pulling for the tank are also the same ones complaining about tank shortages.
New people trying to get used to the role have to deal with all this garbage from players pulling or kicking because they think they are going too slow then people wonder why there aren’t enough people playing tanks.
