No, we don’t need to go at the tank’s pace for a leveling or heroic dungeon. Content that is actually difficult like mythic+? Sure. But if we are going at one mob a minute I will pull, whether I’m the DPS or the healer. Faceroll content is something many of us have done countless times, we just want to get over it so we can leave. I’m there to level, not to go sightseeing.
I have a level 80ish resto shaman I’ve been healing dungeons with to level… IMHO, I don’t mind that mentality as long as the tank can hold his own while I heal the overzealous DPS… Some tanks (especially leveling ones) still don’t fully know the class or they just plain suck at tanking.
When I have to use my full mana bar to keep the bad tank alive, I can’t be expected to keep up an impatient DPS…
Its not a one size fits all circumstance… Think about your healer.
While this view may suit you (and the rest of the group) if you’re a good tank, a poorly skilled tank isn’t going to look at all those things you listed.
See, there’s always a DPS saying this, thinking that they’re god’s gift to WoW, but in my experience most of the time those people are simply not as good in reality as they are in their head and it ends up in a wipe. It happened to my monk healer in a Warlords dungeon last week. Twice in the same dungeon.
Don’t waste my time in leveling and heroic dungeons with wipes. I’d rather go a teeny bit slower and kill things methodically than gogogogogo rushrushrush and die multiple times because of antsy dps that think they’re pro players.
True. I mean back in Legion I could take my heroic raid geared monk in as WW and not need a tank or even other dps. Not sure if the gap is still that big.
I agree, tanks who are grannies either get vote kicked in my groups or deal with me pulling as a healer because they’re so slow that a healer of all things is pulling.
Tanks shouldn’t have the final say in the same way that people should communicate with eachother like rational human beings. If someone has a better idea they shouldn’t feel in the wrong for putting it forward, and if someone challenges your idea you shouldn’t arrogantly dismiss it either.
What you shouldn’t do is go off and do something without the agreement of the group, be you DPS healer or tank.
I was doing a leveling dungeon (wod dungeon) a while ago on my priest (i was healing) and the tank was moving like a snail so I started pulling big myself. Group pushed a kick to one of the dps for “pulling ahead of the tank”. I declined it and said that was me, vote still went through and they told me to stop pulling ahead of the tank. I said yeah no pull bigger as I had zero issue keeping the group up. I ended up leaving because they kicked the dps. Got a PM from kicked dps, i told him sorry for getting him kicked. Then got a PM from one of the other dps flaming me for “white knighting” the kicked dps. Was a weird day…
TLDR: I agree that sometimes tanks pull slow as crap and at a certain point, if the healer is more then comfortable with, then pull bigger, even if it’s Dps.
I actually have a bigger problem with slow tanks when I’m the healer. You can’t afk and nothing is going on because of how slow the pace is going. I have no issues pulling myself or if one of the DPS pulls.
If I’m the DPS, I also have no problem with DPS pulling. Most of us have threat reduction or other abilities that can reroute threat to the tank.
Tanks need to stop thinking they’re the best thing ever because they’re rare… like no one cares.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m fully aware and appreciative of what tanks do for groups, same for the healers & DPS, but to dismiss any one of the roles is a stupid thing to do.
