Actually, everyone does 20% off the work.
Collectively, tanks aren’t doing the most work.
It’s a team effort.
If you aren’t fond of how this works, or how it’s defined, might I suggest finding a different game?
The days of HelloKitty are gone. Enough is enough with “gimme trophies”.
Don’t you realize that past expansions where lewt fell from the sky fell off early because everyone was already geared 2 weeks in? C’mon
Did that in mythic second week but some of these dungeons suck with melee and you need lust
Oh im not saying one is better than the other. Im just saying those things all fall on a tank. But to be fair addons make the other roles easier as well. Mouse over macros for heals and dispels. Dbm for interrupts
Healers dont need to know count, dps dont need routes. Mechanics sure. All the other fussy stuff for a smooth run, nah. I dps’d legion, healed bfa and its just more auto pilot in those roles. If the tank sets a bad pace or doesnt know pulls its rough on heals for sure, but the root is the tank.
I was getting murdered in a normal HoA on my DH alt tank yesterday and the healer complained i didnt skip trash haha, but i was literally being killed from lack of heals.
No DPS. We do all the damage
In the 37 years I have been on earth I can tell you that most human beings feel as if they:
-should always be first
-are the most important person on the planet
-are better than other people
-everything should go their way
-they are smarter than everyone else
-they deserve to get paid more than anyone else
-they never did anything wrong
-their fecal matter doesn’t stink
I can go on with this for a long time but people can only handle so much of the truth.
this guy…
you’d be great at designing an amazing game flop
Ego is a hell of a drug
As a healer I love these post.
Go ahead big man, pull what you want without me, see how that works for you.
Also, how about me and you go into a dungeon without dps. Surely your hp bar and my mp bar will outlast those 5 mobs attacks that we can’t really interrupt.

Healing has way more stress and responsibility attached to it in dungeons.
We all do work. There is no most. Good dps do just as much work as a tank or heals.
Killing things in a timely manner, but more importantly interrupts make me a very happy hippie.
Exactly, there is an art to all of it, and a successful run usually means everyone did their part and should have equal right to the loot.
It’s like we’re a team of adventurers each with our own roles to play! Whodathunkit?

Tanking m+ is the hardest job in the game period. If you find a lot of people disagree, this is only because tanks are the fewest in number compared to other roles, so of course other roles will have a bias to say what they do is most difficult, but it’s not.
Sure being a good healer or DPS takes skill in very high m+, but tanking is harder, especially in pugs.
Tanking is the hardest because:
-
You have the most responsibility for group success and are most likely to receive blame for a bad run. DPS or healer can die multiple times, even in the same fight, you can still time, no problem. Tank dies? Even once? Good luck on high keys to time. Seems a bit harder to have zero room for error vs multiple deaths ok.
-
You have to have a route, this route changes depending on key level, affixes, party spec composition, and covenant abilities. Maybe you can triple pull something on a 9+, but can only double pull it on a 12+, or with bolstering etc.
Maybe you have a rogue for shroud skips or invs pots, or a night fae, etc, how does that effect %? Well you better know, because the dungeon will fail if you overpull or underpull.
-
At least as a bear/pally/DK/DH you have a greater responsibility to keep yourself alive, as a tank, than does the healer. Healers mostly heal the rest of the party or DPS if everything is going smooth. I keep myself alive. I can’t tell you how many times the healer has died multiple times in a single fight to the point where I have no brezes left and the boss is on 20% health and I tank + off heal and we beat the boss with a dead healer, even on high keys. I have never seen the same thing happen in a high m+ in bfa/SL once the tank has died, the group never finishes the boss, unless it is extremely low on HP.
-
Look at how many people play tanks. Very few. Why? Because it’s hard af. Try doing double or triple pulls while kiting AND maintaining agro. That’s right in SL you have less threat AND a greater need to kite, but while kiting you can’t do as much damage to maintain threat. Lose a mob for a split second and your healer or DPS gets murdered on higher keys.
-
In hard content a tank has to do everything that a DPS has to do: mechanics, DPS, interrupts, but also must do all the tank stuff: threat, route, pay attention to mana/CDs of the grp, survive, kite, manage both offensive and defensive CDs, etc.
-
A good tank is responsible for quickly gauging the skill of a group. If a group is more skilled then pull more, if a group is less skilled then pull less.
Eh…Might be a person dependent thing.
I have no issues with pugging as healer.
I will not pug as a tank.
I do not agree with the gear sentiment of OP but tanking, at least for me, is far more effort than healing and dps.
You misspelled healer.
I tank as much as I DPS…
No
I don’t think anyone is arguing that people knowing how to play their chosen class/spec/role is important, I believe the OP means that tanks also have to know routes and such. Sometimes different routes for different affixes.
If only the majority of dps did that.
