Why not charge?
The free market decides. Noone said you shouldn’t get a free tank if there was a tank willing to do it for free. I think the evidence supports there’s hardly any Tanks that are willing to do it for free though. So therein lies the problem. It sounds like to me, you just want Tanks to do it for YOU for free. That’s a laughable premise. If you got connections or friends willing to help you out, then more power to you.
I used to tank Dungeons for free when I needed gear from them. Now I don’t need gear, so now I won’t do it for free. I imagine that’s the issue here. So find a undergeared Tank that may be a little noobish and have at it.
The main issue when you already have a group formed and looking for a tank is getting all 4 people to agree to the tank getting extra drops.
There have been times ive searched for tanks 30m-1h. At that point im willing to give something up to get a tank. Like all BOE greens or something, but everyone else in the group has to ok it too.
Probably be easier just to form a group yourself as a tank and reserve 1st orb in strat.
You’d be better off just charging gold or reserving an orb. For some reason hoovering up all the “unwanted” drops seems low rent.
No reason to. a couple silver for a Port is no consequence to a Mage. Our AoE farming can net plenty of money. Simply AoE farming SM or ZF to farm cloth, to then turn into bandages, and then sell them to a vender is enough money to support Portals for people.
I’m saying when it comes to PVE dungeons, you do the role you chose. And you do it for the loot available in the dungeon.
You can rationalize all you want, that doesn’t make it not a scumbag move.
Why not take advantage of it…like im trying to take advantage of my abilities
If you are geared up, and don’t need to run any more dungeons, why not roll an Alt that has the ability to make money? You could also be diversifying your Professions.
Because i’m not into taking advantage of people in need. I’d rather give to the community, rather than take from the community.
So then you weren’t tanking for free - you were playing the game. You weren’t providing a service at that point. You were participating in the group.
“I used to heal for free when I didn’t need gear”
“I used to dps for free when I didn’t need gear”
Running dungeons provides decent enough gold for everyone in it’s own right. Why charge? Enjoy playing in the community and with people. That’s the point of the game.
MMO not FPS.
There’s nothing to rationalize. It’s common sense. To you the options are, “Tanks can be scumbags and charge” OR “Tanks can suck it up and tank for free” But in reality the options are “Tanks charge for runs” OR “Tanks don’t do that content”
So pick your poison. The community presented a problem (lack of tanks). Some tanks presented a solution (tank for gold.)
It’s a community based game, sounds like you just want little NPCs to do the content for you.
I never use them and avoid people that offer them. I get groups just fine without paying for a tank so I see no need for it. Run what’s fun, if you need a bribe to run it then find something more fun that you want to do.
I dont want to level again. So im trying to avoid rolling a mage with this business
Personally, I’d rather find friendly tanks, help them out, and reap the rewards of free tanking, than pay someone to tank.
I’d not pay a rando for their job roles, even if your raid geared, that’s not gaurentee you know what your doing.
Dragged a 59 tank through Undead Stratholme a few days ago. He wasn’t the best, but took advice, and was happy to tank for us. Much rather deal with that then pay someone a ton of gold.
But you’re not tanking for free - you’re getting the drops, silver, and items like everyone else.
It’s literally never free. There’s always a financial reward built in by the game.
There’s no lack of tanks, there’s too much I / ME and not enough WE for the MMO community. Literally any warrior can tank just fine in 5 mans.
Anyway, we’re talking circles. You’re wrong, everyone knows you’re wrong, but you want to keep letting the tail wag the dog. Have at it. But don’t expect anyone to actually believe trash logic.
It’s not Black & White. I don’t always charge for tanking services. If I feel like running a dungeon for fun, I tank, for free, for fun.
But if I’m getting that 10th whisper of the day to tank xyz, then maybe i’ll make an offer and tank for some gold.
Man, you are missing out! I love creating alts. Not really for the profit, but to have the ability to craft/farm mats as necessary. Makes it so I don’t have to rely on the AH, or paying people. But the best reason to role alts, is to have the best possible understanding of different classes and roles.
You seem to be a dedicated Raider. When I was a hardcore raider, I rolled many classes so I could have as much insight into how each class is played. This way, when explaining or discussing mechanics and roles, I knew everything there was to know.
There are enough benefits to leveling Alts that it kinda makes it a bad call not to.
Preach Brother!
For the Cause!
You’ve failed to prove any points so I fail to see how i’m wrong and how everyone knows it?
Look it’s real simple man, you can NOT pay a tank, and that’s fine. Or you CAN pay a tank and that’s fine. You play how YOU want to, and I’ll play how I want to. It’s my time and it’s your time and neither of us should dictate how the other uses it.
Welcome to what’s called an opinion.
If you don’t agree with it, simply don’t pay.
