add death knights, monks, and demon hunters obviously
I have tanked ramparts and it is fun and somewhat difficult to keep threat against a shadow priest, mage and rogue. Learned that tab targeting is the way to go, thunderclap is good to use on a pull with multiple melee mobs. I like to spam heroic strike and shield slam when it’s up.
Shouldn’t you be spamming devastate? Sunder armor if not that? Cleaves and thunderclap groups, sunder individuals?
Edit: shield slams and revenge over heroic strike?
You should never use heroic strike while tanking unless it’s a raid boss.
One of the biggest barriers to entry as a tank is the knowledge gap of how to run a specific dungeon and rotational knowledge of your class to keep threat. Not only do you set the pace of the dungeon via your pulls, you also set the upper limit of how hard your DPS and Healers can push their potency. It’s a lot of responsibility and if something goes wrong, everything gets pinned on you. I can’t exactly blame anyone for not wanting to take on the role of tank.
I only play wow for arena. However in tbc some pve pieces will be bis.
I had to go tank as an arms warrior main.
Here is the trade off. Every single group I run will have reserved items for myself which I will master loot. Either that or every dps person that whispers “inv” will be ignored unless they are a clothy. I won’t even let dps leather or mail come cos competing with my neck and ring prices etc. If you don’t like it, level and play a tank. I hate tanking but I’ll do what needs to be done to play what I enjoy.
You have no idea what you’re talking about
I thought when DPS died it was lag. Lol.
Im serious this is the game with worse tank design of all the list of MMRPGs i have played.
Final Fantasy XIV
- On the present Gunbreaker, Warrior, Paladin and Dark knight are perfectly balanced the 4 are viable on Dungeons & raids with a very small % difference on DPS/Tanking abilities. Even on the worse Stake On ARR PLD VS WAR. Warrior was a lot more FUN & viable, i could tank all Coils with Vanilla WAR on ARR…
I have played Wow Retali, final fantasy 11, aion, tera, Lineage ETC many other hybrid RPGS like pso 2, guildwars, black desert online and sorry but
“Classic wow have the worse tank design of the story of a mmrpg”. The talents do not make a sense. The gameplay do not make sense, the weapons they use god.
solution: make more dps specced classes and yell into the vaccuum of LFG for tanks that may or may not exist
No thanks. I like that it’s hard to change specs.
This is absolutely the crux of the problem and people (perhaps intentionally) often gloss over it. Tanks aren’t great in pvp, are slow to level and quest, and require the most effort of all the roles in dungeons.
Not many people will go through all that trouble when they don’t get to do the content that most consider endgame (raids).
It gets even worse later into the expansion when people start expecting raid gear on a 5 man tank. The new tanks and tanks that are happy to have 5 mans as their end game get shut out and make the problem even worse.
I don’t actually use heroic strike, but revenge is nice to use when it’s available I do spam sunder though.
You’re right, none of these “fixed” the tanking shortage because the game doesn’t really attract solo players who like to tank.
However, I would argue that all of these things definitely helped with the tank shortage. As an altaholic, having a tank spec option on each new class definitely led to me rolling more tanks. And those LFD rewards were actually a solid incentive, imo. Quite the few times I wouldn’t queue as tank unless one was active.
But again, a solid part of the issue is that solo players are heavily encouraged to go the DPS route, because it makes everything else in the game just so much smoother. Having dual spec would most definitely entice more players to have tanky pieces in their bags so that they could roll into a tank role when looking for dungeons.
What about this as a solution that’s never going to happen: warrior and pally talent trees reworked to be like the feral tree. As a feral druid I dont lose out in questing damage or tanking dungeons. The hybrid talents in the feral tree makes the spec valuable in 5, 10, and 25 man content. Had blizzard done the same for the other two tanks you might see less of a shortage. Design hurt those classes more than anything IMO.
lol… dual spec never solved the tanking problem.
When they made aggro easy mode, that solved the shortage.
The reason they are balanced is because tanks do almost no dmg in FF
Wut? No, it’s definitely not.
Become the tank or befriend the tank are honestly your two best options.
Maybe if everyone and there mother wasn’t trying to spam dungeons the shortage would in fact not be a shortage??
