Now this is someone who gets the problem. Ultimately, tanks will likely just tank for their guilds because they know and like those people and those people like the tank. Tanking remains such a thankless job and considering that mages still don’t understand when to do the spell cleave stuff and when to let a tank lead, I wouldn’t want to do it either.
I had a mage tonight that was going full bore on aoe before I could get a maul on each add. And then they doubled down when the shaman healer butt pulled a second pack.
Being a feral tank, I couldn’t possibly get 8 mobs to stop chasing literally everyone. Rage starved because I’d lost aggro, and swipe sucks. Mages response after the wipe was “sad tank” followed by leaving.
It’s unreal to me how jerky dps are to tanks and healers right now. I’ve been ignoring them, and ready to tell group leaders to kick people who’ve earned my ire. Bet they do it too, a group is 10 seconds away for me, a tank is like 30+ minutes of spamming lfg.
I don’t think they do, tanking isn’t a hard role. Main reason that pushes us away from tanking, is fact that I do like 150 dmg a hit as prot pala on ST, have to blow consecrations and stuff to down mobs faster in the world, where as ret, you hit for much more.
the only change i really woudnt mind is dual spec
blizz done some changes to tbc already so why not add something that would really make it more playable
Because, that is the solution. You can’t implement anything to entice people to want to tank. Quit crying about a tank shortage. 15 years of a tank shortage in this game. Nothing can change human nature, some people have it and some don’t. And those that don’t can only whine about it.
I agree. The underlying presumption is misplaced imho. To be fair however, some will. I have been leveling as Ret but now in Outlands am considering pulling the trigger and going prot ahead of 70. I tanked this stuff when BC first came out, and so changing “back” isn’t such a big deal. A lot of folks who don’t have any experience with it though, or who try for a time and find the challenge of it far more complex than pew pew will likely not stay…which I think is partially why there are so few to begin with.
It’s not lunacy my vertically-challenged friend. The shortage is for a reason (or multiple reasons), and it’s why LF1M Tank is so prevalent in the various channels. In the end, waiting for someone else to do it often simply DOESN’T do it.
This mentality contributes to the shortage. By going around saying that some people that are tanking shouldn’t, those same people being taken down end up switching off tank, making the shortage worse. Just because someone isn’t good at tanking now doesn’t mean they can’t end up being good at it later, but they’ll never end up being good at it later if there’s constantly people criticizing them, insulting them, etc. because it’ll drive them away from the role entirely.
