Survival needs to be reworked

the scary part, sometimes Blizz has listened…

OP, you wanna ruin BM, so you can get Surv back to what it once was… thats some serious genius right there.

Ironically how would my idea ruin BM… it would function the same except barbed shot would be melee

Maybe because BM Hunters do not want to be melee? Ranged to melee is no small change. Look how much it screwed Survival. Ask yourself what BM would actually gain from such a change v.s. what it would lose.

most specs need a rework.

They’re all still designed around legion artifact weapons, and alot of the specs are extremely dull and out-dated.

I feel like ive been hitting the same spells as assassin since i was 12 years old. its been 11 years and it hasn’t changed much.

Game needs a big freshen up

Fury warrior already exists - 4 buttons that all make sense and feel impactful; what would BM gain by being melee?

What are you finding clunky bout SV? I find SV rotation to be very simple, you apply your two main DoTs and hit Raptor until they are about to expire, or use KC to build up focus. Things become more interesting play-style wise when you add on talents.

It’s one of the easier to play melee specs. What buries it under all of the other melee specs is that has not been around as long as they have, and it does not bring as much utility as some other specs have. If Aspect of the Eagle applied to everyone around them then I think more groups would take them along.

A spec does not need to be top dps to be asset to your group. If you can bring an additional utility that will help the of melee specs to continue to fight, yet be able to move away from dangers then you are asset to everyone.

The argument that keeps being held over SV is that is not range while the other two specs are. However, what if that why it better to bring SV cause it is melee, but able to be range while others are also benefited as well.

Survival is wicked fun is probably my favorite melee spec after ret pal only because it does inferior damage. Buff that damage and I’d play survival all the time.

Survival should alteast be reworked to able to dual wield like Rexxar

SV is clunky. You prioritize bombs over other things you would normally do. Like it has these dots that aren’t worth using for the dots, you prioritize bombs like in the aoe build. Serpent sting is super clunky right now. In torgast it feels good with the ability to spread that, but if you don’t pick that talent it feels very clunky to multi dot. The green bomb for example could have been used to replace serpent sting, green bomb is clunky since it only works to refresh already applied serpent stings, when it could simply apply the serpent sting dot for example.

It is also clunky that the mastery only buffs focus depleting abilities. That’s carve and raptorstrike/mongoose bite only. If mastery had maybe a buff to something else like dots and magic damage would be more fun. Since the bombs are probably the most thing for me. The mastery probably helps mongoose builds more but I don’t like that build, that’s more for raiding. Bombs build is definetly more fun to me. It reminds me of the machinegun spec we had in Legion for frost dks.

I do miss having 3 weapons on hunters. If survival allowed for that, I would love it more. As I miss duel-wielding /swords daggers with a bow. The spear theme is nice but we had melee hunter abilities before. It would also be nice for my SV hunter to use exotics, BM already has 2 pets. I would like to use Spirit beasts, Devilsaurs, Rhinos, Carapids, Worms and shale beasts as SV personally. I simply use BM to have access to those pets I hunted. And it’s weird how BM only has access to those. BM also isn’t as fun as SV imo. But it is simply more useful since it’s ranged and therefore easier to play. BM hunters can move while casting, and don’t have to worry about silences, They have better pet healing with exotics being overall better pets with additional abilities, and are easier to play because of these things. SV has a higher skill cap as you have to be in melee, avoid more melee stuff, and be more restricted then BM. And usually when there is a ranged/melee spec in a class the melee used to have more damage potential to offset stuff like that. That doesn’t work anymore.

Stuff like increased or unique SV traps that are baseline could be put in.
Allow for SV to have 2/3 weapons again would be nice. Duel-wielding spec like Rexxar would be fun. Ability to use a ranged weapon again and transmog it for ranged specs would be cool, so it would be used for spells like explosive shot. They could bring back those ranged spells to the melee spec too. Explosive shot could use your bow.

The balancing could be based on having just melee. The ranged slot could be cosmetic only so you can just transmog it like we used to before when hunters had 2-3 weapons.

BM used to be half ranged half melee. I missed that.

Lose nothing, gain the ability to use the hunter themselves and the pet as a place for abilities to fly off.

Youre saying ranged to melee screwed survival like survival didnt get an entirely new kit.

what changes with ranged to melee BM… Barbed shot becomes Barbed strike and cobra shot becomes Cobra bite.

Now you take that back!

BM always preferred to fight at range.

Stop. You’re going into marketing spin mode and it isn’t working. You’re advocating for BM to lose the ability to be 100% proficient from anywhere between 0 to 40 yards and gaining NOTHING in return. You might not think that you’re advocating for BM to be majorly nerfed but you are. I’m fully confident in estimating over 95% of BM Hunters don’t want this.

Yea that is true, but they could have just as easily buffed there melee abilities. Being mixed melee is a fun thing in different games.

Yeah I don’t like how the mastery is designed, but I wouldn’t so much call it clunky as a complete design flaw or an oversight.

You can be extremely effective by ignoring mastery completely and stacking haste > crit/vers

I do agree that the mastery could be way more fun than it is

I feel like it should also DW weapons, but it also feels very…chaotic when playing.

Play an Arms or Fury Warrior and you’ll see what I mean, those specs just flow nicely. Survival feels like it doesn’t quite know what it wants to do half the time. Everything is on weird tight timers as well.

Hunters were primarily a ranged class in classic, but had some melee abilities. However, that was so a hunter could move out of melee combat or would still be able to defend themselves. Hunter players who focus on melee combat did that for its novelty. These players generally specialize in the Survival tree because of its melee talents. However, Melee hunters were considered as a joke, due to the fact that they have few melee abilities and do sub-par damage.

They had bad damage but you could weave both playstyles together to make interesting gameplay.

Look this guy I liked playing is sorta why I like playing SV. It gives me weapon master vibes. Firion uses like 6 weapons and combos them. He is a mid range figher. Mostly melee, but weaves in ranged skills with his bow. Right now survival has the pet, the 2hand weapon, traps and bombs. I think it would be cool if they could use a bow again, be able to transmog it, get all the benefits from the 2h agi weapon and the bow being for abilities, and fight with mixed weaponry. Survival can be a play on weaponmasters. It would also compliment the meme that everything was a hunter weapon before!

I love Firion, although he uses magic and stuff in his combos being a final fantasy character overall he is more of a weaponmaster. And survival maybe can focus on different types of guns maybe. Or traps, more traps could be made. The tar trap/flare combo can be it’s own new trap for example.

A option for other traps would be nice. Survival tree was focused on improving traps, and flare + tar trap was already in the game we called it Explosive Trap.

Explosive trap was aoe knockback. That legendary combo feels cool, but it’s clunky sometimes. A lava trap or something would be cool, like lava pools. That interaction reminds me of an alchemy game which was cool.
