So if you will go min max it anyway you already can within the confines of the system. I don’t agree with removing that system’s limits just because some people want it.
Blizzard compared a covenant respec to the old Aldor/Scryer grind.

Having a system that allows players to freely swap covenants would get in the way of my enjoyment of the gain - which is derived specifically from try-hards and min/maxers being punished along with the players that play as tanks and healers and/or dps.
There is no way 100% will be happy if players can fully exercise player agency through a flexible system.
NEWS FLASH: Min-maxxers aren’t going to play with you anyway.

I am 100% against the concept and its outcome.
Class abilities should of never been covenant they should of been new talents.
Give us talent choices and stop with these stupid borrowed powers like azerite, essences, corruption , covenants exctera.

Who really needs to min/max more; CE players who can clear the hardest content without being fully kitted out, or the average Joe who is giving 100% to get through heroic progression and struggling?
I already did, if it’s easy to swap you have to swap or people won’t take you seriously. If it’s nontrivial to swap no one will push for it.

Making convenants restrictive makes the discrimination issue worse.
People are still going to discriminate - but with the inability to make a meaningful choice, players won’t even have the option to change things up to get into a group.
It’s quite a beautiful way to punish players in all areas of the spectrum.
