[Statement from “pro-covenant restrictions” player trying to force others to play the way they envision WoW “should” be played and/or enjoying others being punished for a restrictive system]
Common and basic response:
Seriously…Blizzard - why make a system that distills down to this?
A system which feels spiteful for so many players and that doesn’t impact those of us who enjoy RPing and casual gameplay? Why???
Blizzard has to do something to ruin an expansion. They can’t resist.
Currently I’m sitting between three equally annoying choices on my mage: I can pick the covenant I like the aesthetics of, the ability I like the gameplay of OR the ability that is actually best for me–even if by a small margin.
It’s why you shouldn’t attempt to tie so much into one system. It bloats the system and leads to unsatisfying gameplay. How Blizzard STILL hasn’t learned that lesson after so many years is absolutely astonishing.
Yes god forbid. Fun > locked in because you want “choices to mater”. Player choices and less restriction > locked in because you want “choices to mater”.
Ion said they won’t let covenants be more than like a 5% difference.
If you want aesthetic>gameplay, you won’t be super far behind.
If you wanna be the top PVPer, you won’t be that much behind the top PVEer.
The irony is that tons of players won’t have a choice, and any meaning gets watered down - in addition to all the other negativity that comes with the blending of story, aesthetics, and power.
The min/max community is just going to select what sims the best without actually having a choice.
Very sad to see a system that has the potential for variety, fun, and lots of player agency to be diluted and poisoned by a needless restriction.
5% (if they actually can get that close) is still huge.
Azerite traits and Corruptions makes me laugh at #1.
You are still locked in to abilities that may be fun with aesthetics you do not like.
Everyone knows they are going to change this in some big fashion in 9.1 or 9.2. Just like they did in legion and BfA with the systems they released as is despite massive negative feedback.
The min/max community is just going to select what sims the best without actually having a choice.
That’s a player issue though. Min/Maxers already pick whatever sims the best regardless of context. That racial gives you .002% more healing? That’s the race you’re playing. The issue comes in when players who are not bleeding edge inexplicably think they need to min/max for normal/heroic.
No. They’ve designed the perfect RPG, one with the most possible restrictions on player options that they could dream up.
Options are bad. Having options means that players can choose to play the game wrong. For once and for all, they will stop that, even if it means the death of the game.
I like healing tanking and dps equally, depending on the content. Why should I be forced to lock a character into a set role? Even classic isn’t that freaking myopic.
It makes logical sense from a business metric perspective and many players have already confirmed planning on utilizing multiple copies of the same class.
