I swear to god beta is still on my launcher

Had a blast playing the game i came to love. As for game play I only found 2 herbs that weren’t “grounded” and couldn’t be collected. Also had a hound in the undead starting area that had bugged in the ground layer however it couldn’t chase you along even when aggro’d. All in all was an amazing experience. Thanks again for bringing me back.

Make lvl15 Dungeon challenges a thing! My group got VC down to just under 1/4 health before our healers ran out of mana, lol. I’d love a chance at revenge! Still checking emails multiple times a day for an actual Beta invite as well… I loved Vanilla!

Wasn’t in on the stress test, would like to play beta if still open. Have applied. Was able to play some today and it was great. Brought back old memories. Tried to get on tonight but wasn’t able. Kind of bummed me out. I can’t wait until it goes live.

My experience at 09:00 PM ET (06:00 PM PT) which is 4 hours after the initial release was still a nightmare because you all crammed us all in two servers. If you all release with a small amount of servers, I WILL lose all hope in you as a company and look elsewhere. You need to get rid of layering and release a LOT of servers. If they die, you need to FOR FREE merge dead servers until they are of at least medium population.

Amazing!! … But Layers:

Overall the test was great, extremely excited for release! However, that being said, there were still some major issues, and as many people have pointed out, it revolves around layering. I was under the initial impression that all guild members would appear on the same layer, but this was most definitely not the case. Whenever me and a guildie tried to meet up to trade goods and craft for each other, we couldn’t see each other until we grouped up. HOWEVER, even that was difficult because we were already in full groups and led to complications that shouldn’t be happening in this new “layering” technology. I understand the necessity for something like this to make the launch experience smooth, but it seemed like the population for the layers were too small as many things seemed “barren” (no pun intended, although at times it seemed pretty barren in the barrens). There were 2 total times this happened (Classic Realm 15, 1st time probably around 2-3 CST pm on Thursday, and the second occurrence only an hour or 2 before the servers shut down, and the guild I am referring to was “HOME”).

To ensure a good and wholly classic experience, the layering technology must somehow work better. If anything it is becoming worse or as bad as sharding because it made it seemed like some areas were dead, and led to inter-realm divisions which further weakened the realm identity that WoW was always loved for prior to Mists of Pandaria. It is completely jarring having to invite to your layer, especially when you are all talking to each other over guild chat, which by its nature requires you to be on the same server and should give players a sense of certaintity and security knowing you and your guildmates are all living in the same exact cohesive World. This jarring feeling takes you out of believing you’re actually playing vanilla wow. The team did such an amazing job on re-creating vanilla WoW that it is sad to see a device intended to help do so much harm to the core gameplay and feel of this amazing World… of Warcraft.

All of that being said I would just like to reiterate the profound gratitude I have for the Classic Team over at Blizzard for all of their hard work and dedication on this beloved project. Just please take this layering feedback to heart!!

For anyone who wants to see the epic finale (on the horde side) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3f0WsZ99PzI&lc=z22bjbkwws3utnosaacdp433v0kyo4xczzh0f1vt3xdw03c010c

P.S. Horde killed more Angry Programmers and got another special surprise  …Take that, Alliance.

My play wasn’t ideal with the 200+ms world latency due to it being set on a US Server. I live in hope and anticipation of an Oceanic server or two. Otherwise I probably won’t play because the style of game is really disadvantaged by the extra gap in the key-to-response play.

I found very little issue with doing the starter quests as the area I was in (Coldridge Valley) was not overly populated when I started up (which was around 1.5 hours after launch). There were a reasonable number of people around but it wasn’t insane. I wish the time had been right to get to see the End of the World but the world clock was not working in my favour.

But thanks for the little taste of Classic, it was fun.

That IS a cause for concern, and more fuel for the argument to leave layering in the initial starting areas. Westfall is the second zone; it’s where one goes after leaving Northshire (the starting area) and Elwynn Forest (the starting zone). And actually, layering could end at the Northshire wall as the player enters Elwynn Forest. Ditto all starting areas/starting zones.

Anything that directly blocks or interferes with grouping with other players needs to be “commented out” of the code if location does not equal starting area.

Just a quick comment, and I may be wrong, but mobs having no loot at all is a thing in Classic. I was startled a few times as well when this happened, but to me the issue was that with AutoLoot the loot screen would pop up and disappear in a fraction of a second, not giving me enough time to actually see that there was nothing to loot. Just having the loot screen stay up for a second on Autoloot when there’s nothing to loot would help with this, I think.

EDIT: Whoops, sorry. Since I didn’t see a reply listed I assumed no one had replied. Guess I should have scrolled down a tiny bit.

Played orc shaman to lvl14 on 15. Stopped playing after the first few hours because how terrible the mob density and respawn timers were. It slowly got better over time for some mobs, humanoids specifically. Some of the animal mobs around the Crossroad hub were very slow to respawn.

All in all, was enjoyable. Ranking up spells and seeing them hit harder was satisfying. Getting a green pc with stats and seeing the immediate impact was enjoyable. Actually SEEING WHERE MY DAMAGE WAS COMING FROM was awesome.

You’re welcome! Re subbed just for this since it coincided with my 4 days time off from work.
I left my feedback in the main thread. I also experienced some bug like behavior with drops from dead mobs and other mob movement/roaming about in the Darkshore woods. Is there a place to submit/describe those even if I’m not part of the beta test?

P.s. I’ve updated my Beta profile settings to include Classic, just in case. Would be glad to squish some more bugs while questing if I get invited. Thanks for working of this project all, my dream comes true. I remember playing in a “Project 60” like guild on Stormrage US server back during the end of Draenor expansion and it was a blast! I’m glad that I’ll be able to experience a true 60 experience and not pretending during the Draenor being level capped at 60 and 70.

Thank you for the opportunity to play during the stress. I was on pvp realm 3, orc rogue. As others have stated, it was mad populated. The one bug I came across was during a Gouge. Typically my pve target would very conveniently turn its back to me for the backstab. Instead of having to maneuver around it. While this did not always happen, it did happen with relative regularity. If I were to guess, I’d say 70% of the time the target would offer its back.

I really hope I see people spamming that when I log in. Since streamers are not publicly going to say what server they are going on, I would like to see “Invite to streamerHere layer!” so I know to pick a different server immediately.

Hallo Blizzard,

first of all i want to say a big thanks to making the Classic Dream come true. This Thanks is to all employes of Blizzard making this happen

I am from Germany, so dont take grammatik issues to srsly please.

I cant wait for the release. Every free minute i watch People which stream the Beta and prepare myself for the launch.

This wont be undermined due the fact, that i cant understand the following thing: LAYERING

Everyone hates Long Que’s to Play and sticking to the starting area for a whole day isnt that fun either and there for we can understand your point of view about Layering.

I played on every 3 Beta-Stress-Tests that been so far and i tested a lot of Layering. The Negative Things from Layering will overshadow the positive one, which is: no big Ques and a faster Levelingstart.

I will start with the Downsides you already know, but i will link a YouTube video to demonstrate it better.

From my Testingexperience about layering over explizit testing over day’s;

  1. This will be abused to the hell and back, there are multiple techniques to switch a Layer; Relogging, getting invited, or randomly faced.
U can farm Mine-, Herbs- and rares just as an example endlessly, this will destroy the economy in Classic, not only for the period layering will happen, indeed months later aswell.

  2. U get randomly saperated from Group and General Chats, like there is nobody there, but in requesting Guildmember in the same area, they say they couldnt saw my Posting in General Chat, even we are on the same Layer and same Server.

  3. You can avoid Open World PvP and PvE Situations that may be to dangerous.

  4. Even if u dont want to Change a layer, when one is Fading, all Players will swap the layer which results in some strange Moments where u Fighting a OpenWorld Elite and he’s close to die, u will get randomly layerd and this elite fades and a new one with 100% will destroy you.

=> The realy bad About all this is, that many People will abuse it, but only few get penalized.

And most People just dont talk About it, because they dont understand this Thing and doesnt even saw the shadow About layering.

Actualy there are a lot of ideas from the community to Change Layering in a positive way, so there cant be anything abused that would have a Impact that will destroy classic wow.

For example: make layering only for 1-10 Areas for example or even just the startingzones. Make obsticles like nodes stick to your Charakter and will not be fadeable with Layering.

Just dont ignore all the Feedback About layering please, now is the time to Change this Thing, u will be unaible to repair the Damage that layering will let behind.

The Youtube Video for a short Demonstration:

I hope Blizzard, you will respond to all the loud Voices that actualy understand what will happen, if layering happen as it is Right now.

Thanks and Regards,

Thomas from Germany

This guy gets it.

What’s really irresponsible are posts and threads like yours because #1, you’re in the vocal minority and #2 you’re wrong.

Was I in the Beta?

After the initial 4 hours the mobs-to-population and resulting respawn drought appeared to be much more about killing mobs than it was standing around for respawns. The world felt populated without being overpopulated. Start zone quests were still a waiting game to accrue the kill counts / quest item drops.

But the second/last day in the last 2 hours were wholly doable and resulted in a new personal record for myself getting to lvl 7 in 1hr and 3 min despite going afk a bit.

When my character was shifted to another layer I went from being in a mine with lots of people and few mobs to being in a mine with no one else around and lots of mobs; they swarmed and killed me. Both were unpleasant and unwanted experiences. Any way to avoid being layered into an NPC gank?

Had zero issues with stability throughout.
