Stormstrike damage will ignore armor! Just Kidding! Mountain Thane co-opting Shaman Lightning Themes

MOUNTAIN THANE ROW 1
Call of Thunder: The Stormstrike damage or Nature damage your abilities deal is increased by 5%. Stormstrike damage ignores Armor. Thunder Clap damage increased by 50%. For Fury only, Thunder Clap generates 5 Rage and Improved Whirlwind and Meat Cleaver now improve Thunder Clap as well as Whirlwind .

But not for you, shaman!

So fun to have our lightning theme co-opted into the Warrior Tank Hero Talent.

“themes” and “aesthetics” aside I think its hilarious that they decide to introduce “stormstrike” nature/phys damage, and yet the actual ability Stormstrike is just physical and therefore does not scale with mastery.

I can 100% see a world where stormstrike damage exists and they never change the actual ability to be nature/phys.

Still gonna be stealing out lightning and thunder.

What kind of complaint is this? lol

There’s lots of aesthetic crossover between the different classes, this isn’t anything new.

Nor is the concept of warrior using lightning-themed abilities new.

Warriors using a couple of new abilities with lightning on them doesn’t take away from the Shaman class fantasy.

We don’t even know what the Shaman Hero Talents look like yet, so I’d reserve all criticism about ‘warriors taking from shamans’ until we’ve actually seen our own talents.

Read Stormstrike in your talent tree.

Why do warriors get special treatment on Stormstrike when Shaman have been asking SINCE THE DAWN OF THE STORMSTRIKE ABILITY for it to ignore armor.

Except it does…because you can’t take any points in Enhancement without taking STORMSTRIKE.

I’m not arguing that point I’m arguing the point that it’s not a big deal that we share certain aesthetic elements.

Stormstrike should ignore armor (and scale with mastery) on Shaman.

Okay?

That doesn’t mean that Warrior having it takes away from the Shaman class fantasy?

They’re still entirely two separate classes, Warrior isn’t really taking anything from Shaman.

Name another source of stormstrike damage in the game besides Enhancement shaman.

What?

I’m not saying Stormstrike didn’t come from Shaman, I just don’t think that Warriors having it ruins Shaman class fantasy lol.

However, if you really want to get into it.

Stormstrike itself is largely inspired off of the Storm Bolt and Thunder Clap abilities from the Mountain King from War3.
Which is what the new Warrior Hero Talent tree is based off of.
So these shared aesthetics between the two classes are nothing new.

I would argue that it was inspired off the dwarf gryphon rider storm hammers…rather than stormbolt and thunderclap which, dun dun dun, went to warrior and not Shaman.

Shaman is a conglomerate of WC3 Witch Doctor, Far Seer, Shaman, Spiritwalker, and Tauren Chieftain.

Adding actual lightning strikes, and STORMSTRIKE damage ( which by the way will bypass armor, something Shaman have been asking for for years yet get told no) is 100% stepping into Shaman territory.

Storm Bolt WC3 description

  • |Storm Bolt
A magical hammer that is thrown at an enemy unit, causing damage and stunning the target.|

Thunderclap WC3 Description
Thunder Clap
Slams the ground, damaging nearby enemy units. Units are also slowed for the duration listed below.

In WC3, nothing remotely elemental about the Mountain Thane. It’s called Thunderclap because the sound of slamming the ground reminds you of thunder, not because it’s actually summoning thunder on you.

If you play Heroes of the Storm, where Muradin fulfills the mountain thane playstyle, there is again, nothing remotely elemental themed about him or his abilities.

Stormstrike and thorims….

Yeah I know it’s probably not right to be a little jealous but this just feels bad for enhance mains.

To me, it sorta feels like if they’re willing to “steal” all these themes from enh they’re just gonna leave the spec in the dust (more so than they already do)

At least wait until we see what the Stormbringer tree looks like before you start complaining about themes being stolen.

Something tells me it has something to do with lightning. Crazy thought, I know.

Your English reading skills do you justice. You are correct, the lightning is secondary to my main concern, as the title points out.

I can read perfectly fine. I just think your post is stupid, that’s all.

That’s understandable. I just don’t know of any other abilities that share a name with another ability and do something different.

In this case, Stormstrike and one not bypassing armor, but the other bypassing armor. Lightning strikes is icing on the cake.

This also isn’t the first time shaman abilities/core mechanics have been farmed out.

Remember when they gave every class Overload and called it multistrike? There is a precedent for farming out shaman abilities with little compensation in return.

I find it hilarious that they specifically state that they didn’t want to make Blademaster due to the iconic combination of Wind Walk and Mirror Image that would overlap with the realms of Rogues and Mages respectively.
There aren’t any barriers, just concepts

Fairly sure it’s based off of the mountain thane hero in Warcraft 3, which uses plenty of storm based abilities, but is clearly a warrior.

While there are things to complain about, this isnt one. Especially when there have been abilities that share a name and do different things and Stormstrike in this case isnt going to be a Warrior ability, its going to be a damage type.

Looks like the only thing that is going to be doing Stormstrike damage from what I can see is Thunder Clap with Thunder Blast charges.

So what exactly is the complaint here. Looks like people making a big stink out of nothing.

If you could provide examples of this, I would appreciate it. In addition, if something is dealing Stormstrike damage…it should probably be the ability named Stormstrike…since this damage (Stormstrike aka nature) is now going to be a thing.

I touched on this. Stormbolt and Thunder Clap didn’t do nature damage in WC3. Thunder clap got its name because it’s a loud CLAP that sounds like thunder…you know, like an echo sounds from a MOUNTAIN. Stormbolt just states magic hammer…legit posted these 2 abilities from WC3 earlier in the thread.

The other abilites the Mountain Thane had are Bash, and Avatar…neither storm/nature related. Again, play Muradin in HotS, nothing Nature or Shamanic about him, and he is the Mountain Thane hero.

Stormstrike will likely be nature/physical dual school and I wouldn’t be surprised to see stormstrike the ability changed to accommodate this. As for the mountain king in wc3, all abilities did spell damage and bypassed armor. So it may as well have been nature, because it sure wasn’t physical
