Would love it if casting stormstrike for enh and lightning bolt for ele gave lightning shield a 10% DR.
I was pondering something similar. Not sure if itâd be liked, but just putting the idea out there:
Lightning Shield is replaced with Tempest Shield which in its base form functions like Lightning Shield. However, when you spend Maelstrom it generates Tempest charge on the shield based on the amount of Maelstrom spent. As you build more charge, additional orbs surround you. There is an effective cap on how much you can have, either due to it decaying or a numerical cap.
Tempest charge has two uses. First, it can be completely dumped at any level into Unleash Tempest - essentially a second-tier spender. Second, it grants gradually increasing DR or something similar as you gain charge.
This gives you a controllable survival ability for the fights. You can time your max charges to coincide with high damage moments, dumping immediately after.
it used to do something similar in bfa, had a charge to it, tho not a bad idea, i think it owuld be interesting to have a move kinda like the druid full moon just the dif stages add more elements to it, first can be the piddly little tempest they have next adds tornadoes and last like an eq/volcano and firestorms.
also think it would be cool to have a dathea style ele, turn earth elemental into a real cd
A bit controversial idea and maybe a hot take, but still worth at least posting.
What if there was an optional choice node option in Stormbringer tree that would convert Flame Shock and Lava Burst into Lightning based spells (something like Storm Shock that would electrocute enemies instead of scorching and Storm Blast instead of Lava Burst)? It could also change Lava Surge into Storm Surge accordingly and if needed Master of the Elements.
This node would allow people who want to play a mostly lightning based spec achieve that, but as it is optional, people who want to play multiple / all elements can just take the other option in choice node and keep more of a multi-element playstyle. As a result, both people who play Shaman for the lightning theme and people who want to use all elements would have build options fitting for them.
Thoughts?
Yall are sleeping on this DR. It would be better if it applied directly to you for a set amount of time, but this is still good and something enhance desperately needed.
Nope, no fire, all lightning.
Personally I donât find this controversial. I think if flame Shock was transformed into storm shock or static shock or something similar, that would be very cool. Especially if itâs similar to the spell cast by Dathea where it spreads to any target that moves within range.
I think it would be a challenge to implement a spell like that to work for elemental and enhance. Elemental uses flame Shock basically to proc lava surge and enhance uses it basically for nothing in a storm build. As long as lava surge procs remained consistent it could work, but then whatâs the point of changing the spell if it just does the same thing? For enhance I thought it would be cool if storm shock instead of dealing damage over time placed a debuff on your target that took a % of your wind fury damage or something like that.
it is âstormbringerâ so fair enough, just needs to be a lot more visually than what it currently is.
A not reliable defensive is not a defensive. Denfensive need to be able to activate it when u need it so that sht is garbage.
Even if itâs just a cosmetic change to the spells, it gives the hero class a different look and feel. If weâre throwing blasts of electrified hail instead of lava, it feels more like weâre in keeping with the idea of a Stormbringer. After all, a storm is more than just lightning.
WaitâŚ. Arenât we missing an obvious one? Couldnât they tie a defensive to thunderstorm.
A shield or dr on a 30s cooldown, tying into a already semi defensive/disruptive spell, that pretty obviously ties into the theme.
Or equally as obvious as others have mentioned. Lightning shield.
Nah thatâs too creative
Turning a CC cooldown, especially one that has as potentially counterproductive consequences to improper use as a knockback, into a defensive CD is only slightly less terrible an idea than turning utility CDs into throughput ones.
I mean yeah I understand but, in PVE you use the the knock up, not the knock back, pretty regularly enough that it would be almost a passive thing but, still gives u the control that you can choose to sacrifice ur CC for a def. In PVP, u always go with lasso and Iâd say the knock back is more defensive than CC and so doubling down on the def aspect of it doesnât sound bad to me.
Honestly, I donât even think the dr debuff on tempest that they gave us is even that bad but, in general I think to myself. Thereâs obvious candidates for spells in our current toolkit that fit well into the themes of our hero talents and blizz is just like,
âoh whatâs that?â
Like itâs obvious ele/enh need help defensively. Letâs address that. Weâre making a hero class thatâs themed around lighting. Whatâs an existing ele/enh ability that is lighting themed and defensive in nature? Lightning shield, maybe thunderstorm (I get that itâs a bit more of a stretch).
Itâs literally just like 3 steps of logic.
You could say this about Farseer. Ancestral guidance, ghost wolf, astral shift, spirit walk. Like arenât these all things that fit thematically that could use some upgrades.
And well totemicâŚâŚ weâll talk about totemic another day.
Idk Iâm yapping but, it makes me sorta doubtful about the design philosophy of shamans (if there even is one) at blizz.
please no, I donât want re-used and re-cycled bs with placeholder textures, can Shaman for just one expansion get half the love that is given to paladins and mages every expansion.
Since Shocking Grasp can be not needed or even harmful (like during Sanguine weeks), it could become a choice node with other mobilty / utility effect. Something like:
Elemental
Lightning Bolt now can be cast while moving, but movement speed is reduced by X% while it is cast - a return of MoP effect that would give Lightning Bolt a niche in PVE and make the tree a bit more viable for PVP.
Enhancement
Stormstrike and Tempest energize you with lightning, increasing movement speed by X% for Y seconds.
This node would help with melee uptime in both PVE and PVP and could be a decent mobility increasing option.
How well does Stormbringer work with the enhancement elementalist build? I prefer that over the Stormstrike build, but the totemic hero talents are looking like a real mess.
It would work. Elementalist still uses all of the abilities in the Stormbringer tree. That said, it wonât work as well as it would for a storm build because it wonât get as many Tempest procs.
I guess thatâs not so bad, from what I hear the storm build was way far behind anyway, so maybe this will just bring it up to par. If it does anything to enrich the gameplay loop, I might even give it a try!
I only PvP and with Enhancement being a wheelchair class these days I feel like the stormbringer tree is the only viable option since the totem will probably fall over to a DH spreading itâs fecal matter all over it in their constatant AoE burst.
While heading into beta - three changes that are still missing and are crucial are implementing Lightning Rod, adding choice node to Shocking Grasp and making Tempest instant cast for Ele.
Lightning Rod should both be implemented finally and have better value for Ele than just adding Tempest to its list.
Shocking Grasp can be harmful in some PVE modes like Mythic+ Sanguine weeks and can be not needed in PVP. As such, it becoming a choice node with other mobility / utility option would make sense and bring number of choice nodes in this hero tree to standard 3.
Tempest even with uninterruptable cast bar is still too clunky and stationary for PVE and can be disrupted by hard and micro CC in PVP, even more so since it will require being stationary to cast. As such, instant cast time could solve these issues for Ele while Enhancement can solve these issues with using MSW stacks.
