Tempest having a cast time for enhancement seems rather… lacklustre.
Also I agree: it’d feel better to have Stormstrike become tempest rather than lightning bolt

For enhance, Thorims invocation let you stack really high haste with unlimited power, which let you feels ‘Lightning infused’ , ‘Lightning theme’ , a lightning warrior or whatever you wanna call it.
However for ele , u cant really stack it, especially if you using ele blast.
This show how ele design is bad compare to enhance when u thinking of the interation. Blizzard wasnt even thinking of ele at all when they are designing this whole stormbringer tree in my opinion. Literally 0 interaction
yes, and its now tempest. Not LB. You are never casting LB into aoe, only tempest. Does the lack of a separate keybind upset you?
It does not. Thanks for your concern, however.
I think its safe to assume that Tempest will work with maelstrom the same way most of our other spells do.
I think the biggest problems are:
All indications point to Tempest not being fun (or not feeling meaningful) to press.
And if, somehow, we get these things looked at / communicated about / fixed … it’ll be an absolute miracle.
This is my issue with it. All of it, except the slow, is technically good and if we had it as buffs right now and one else was getting anything and totemic wasn’t coming it would be great. Compared to other classes though, it’s not great, it’s pretty weak. Mounted combat, frostfire, bladestorm, massive mobility, etc and we get Every 4th spender and/or 5 times a minute we call down the what looks like a reused thunderstorm animation that does mediocre damage given how often it will be cast. There is so much they could thematically do with electricity and they did nothing. Ball of lightning zapping everything around it, electrified floor, Us being a teslacoil, literal storm clouds with lightning striking the ground, The only great thing is that tempest is uncapped aoe, but they could have accomplished that by uncapping chain lightning or giving crash lightning a big damage boost. Other than that it’s just some passive boosts that storm build needed to even be competitive with current elementalist.
Balance wise it doesn’t even matter since a single button class can be OP if that button does enough damage. Thematically though you show me an enhancement shaman playing current storm build vs TWW Stormbringer and I couldn’t even tell them apart, that’s just incredibly sad and shows how last minute slap dash our talents are. I certainly don’t have high hopes for totemic being fun or visually appealing given it’s totems.
Surely this is something that will get looked at. Right? RIGHT?
I can’t even wrap my head around a dev looking at our defenses and looking at classes like paladin or DK and thinking, “Yup, looks balanced to me”.
Yes.
Stormbringer is DF S2 Ele all over again. You’ll use Elemental Blast. You’ll buff it by 20% with an instant lava burst before you cast it.
It won’t be a huge portion of your damage, but it will play exactly like S2.
Depressing if true. Hated S2 because of the rigidity so hope I won’t just hate my WoW lifelong spec now. Id say Farseer is there for me but that seems incredibly boring.
Also, praying for animation updates, primarily for Lightning Bolt. Would love to use Blizzard implement the WoD lightning changes in the form of glyphs at the very least.
And mage got more CC and defensives, again.
What a surprise.
I haven’t been able to play the beta, but from the coverage coming out over the last day-or-so, I’m rather disappointed. From an Elemental perspective, the hero talents are just dividing the spec into either a Fire-based single target machine with occasional damage spread from Primordial Wave, or a Lightning-based AoE machine.
Both of these hero talent trees appear to be very one-dimensional. Stormbringer is lots of Chain Lightning with an occasional Tempest. Farseer is lots of Lava Burst with an occasional Primordial Wave.
Yeah this is an issue it seems…meanwhile they go through iteration after iteration because rets (just for example) complain their talent choices are too one-dimensional (aoe OR st)…just so they can get a good mix of both. And then to do something as polarizing as what they seem to be doing to us - just doesn’t make sense.
I love the ele toolkit. We don’t need a sweeping and fundamental rework - we just need a decent bit of knowledgeable attention…our spenders need to matter…and I think that a good majority of us want to use most of that toolkit in every encounter-type. We felt so good for so long - and then the DF tier sets just kinda forced one playstyle over the other. The TWW hero trees seem to want to reinforce that split.
Maybe dev’s will give us a little acknowledgement next thursday after mages, priest, and warlocks get more attention
I’m disappointed with Stormbringer. It’s not doom and gloom horrible, but it’s just rather uninspired. For a playerbase that feels extremely neglected, this kinda just adds on to that. This opinion is for ele shaman only
((Tempest
Every 400 Maelstrom / 40 Maelstrom Weapon stacks spent replaces your next Lightning Bolt with Tempest.
Tempest
0.2% of base mana 40 yd range
2 sec cast
Requires Shaman
Deal (180% of Spell power) Nature damage to your target, and ((180% of Spell power) * 70 / 100) Nature damage to other enemy targets within 8 yds of your target.))
This is cool, the tuning, cast time and cost can be tuned until it feels good (They wont because it’s ele lol) but overall it’s a neat ability. The animation is pretty simple but beggars can’t be choosers
((Unlimited Power
Spending Maelstrom or Maelstrom Weapon stacks grants you 3% haste for 15 sec, stacking. Gaining a new stack does not refresh the duration.))
Not super interesting, but haste is a fun stat and this is fine
((Tempest
Increases the critical strike chance of your Nature damage spells by 10% and the critical strike damage of your Nature spells by 5%.))
Again, not super interesting, but it’s fine. This looks like a tuning knob and every hero talent tree seems to have them.
((Shocking Grasp
Your Nature damage critical strikes reduce the target’s movement speed by 50% for 3 sec.))
This looks like the pvp spot, but it can be annoying in pve. Sanguine exists, and everyone may come to hate stormbringer in those weeks
((Supercharge
Lightning Bolt and Chain Lightning have a 35% chance to refund 3 Maelstrom Weapon stacks or 50% chance to cause an additional Elemental Overload when Elemental Shaman’s Mastery is triggered.))
This is yet again, a little boring, but fine. This will be a repeating theme in this tree. Mastery kinda sucks in lightning builds, and this just helps make it a real stat. It’s a shame that a hero talent node was used to do this instead of a spec update, but I won’t complain over this
((Storm Swell or Arc Discharge
When Tempest only strikes a single target, gain 3 stacks of Maelstrom Weapon / 30 Maelstrom
or
When Tempest strikes more than one target, your next 3 Chain Lightning spells are instant cast and deal 75% increased damage.))
I like this one, though it does force us into choosing aoe vs ST. If everyone does this it’ll be fine, but if some specs get to have both, it’s not. We’ll see
((Rolling Thunder
Elemental
Gain one stack of Stormkeeper every 50 sec
Enhancement
Tempest summons a Nature Feral Spirit for until canceled))
This one sucks… When hero talents were announced I, along with many others were excited to see all the NEW things that would get added. This is just a tier set from the current expac. I’m disappointed that instead of creating something new to buff stormkeeper in a cool way, you just recycled a tier set. This talent could be much cooler if it changed how stormkeeper worked for one cast, not just gave us a random extra charge
((Voltaic Surge
Crash Lightning, Chain Lightning, and Earthquake damage increased by 15%.))
Tuning knob, boring and functional
((Conductive Energy
Gain the effects of the Lightning Rod talent:
Lightning Rod
Tempest, Earth Shock, Elemental Blast, Earthquake / Lightning Bolt, Elemental Blast and Chain Lightning make your target a Lightning Rod for 8 sec. Lightning Rods take 20% of all damage you deal with Lightning Bolt and Chain Lightning.))
Like the stormkeeper node, this is really disappointing. I don’t want a hero talent tree to give me a talent I already have, I want it to give me something brand new. Lightning rod is a fine talent but what’s the point of this node? Just keep the talent. This and the stormkeeper node are why so many ele shamans feel neglected and like an after thought. It just feels like there was nobody with any cool ideas during the brainstorm meetings and this was just thrown in “What if we just shoved a talent they already have into the tree?” Just really lame
((Nature’s Protection or Surging Currents
Targets struck by your Tempest deal 10% less damage to you for 6 sec.
or
After using Tempest, your next Chain Heal, or Healing Surge will be instant cast and consume no Mana.))
This one is really, really, REALLY bad… instead of this can you please just make ahnk useful? Have it reset on raid wipe, lower the CD, increase the mana and HP on return and let us use it in pvp. Ahnk is the reason you refuse to give shamans actual defensives, so please at least let it be an actual, useable defensive.
((Awakening Storms
Stormstrike, Lightning Bolt, and Chain Lightning have a chance to strike your target for (50% of Spell power) Nature damage. Every 3 times this occurs, your next Lightning Bolt is replaced by Tempest.))
Tempest is fun, and more is better. I have seen comments saying that this can override that stormkeeper talent though. So lets toss out that lame talent and put something cool in so this isn’t wasting resources
Over all stormbringer looks fine. Since it’s unlikely to see any changes at all I’ll say it’s probably workable, but it could be so much more interesting if you decided to put some creativity into a few of these nodes
They had great animation updates in Legion for Chain Lightning & Lightning Bolt. The Shaman community at the time complained and they weren’t added. I don’t know if there was an actual gameplay issue with the animation (for example, there were new Death Grip animations around the same time that had an actual gameplay issue where the animation added a delay to the ability being cast. They ultimately weren’t added for that reason) but looking at the videos I can find of the animation updates, it doesn’t seem like there was anything problematic with them so
Yeah I’d love for those to come back. But honestly at this point playing Shaman seems masochistic.
Yea I am unsure. Ive posted it a lot (as others have), for the past few years since it was shown. Never saw a reason why they never got changed.
Thinking more on this- I would honestly rather have Farseer’s Earth shield buff than either of these for enhancement. These two choices really are that bad.
Nature’s proctection should work like this :
Targets struck by your tempest deal 5% less damage to all players for 10 sec.
Finally we got a raid spot
