Store transmog and why It's a problem

Proof or you are lying.

Most of Asian mmos sell quite a lot of services and cosmetics in their cash shop. But you don’t need to purchase subscription or sth else. You play either free game with few cosmetics or money game with a lot of cosmetics. I didn’t like such system, it was one of the reasons I chose to play WoW.

If Blizzard starts to do the same thing with those mmos, this subsription-based system should not be taken for granted. This is exactly the company’s method that makes you rationalize your purchase, like stat-added costumes in other ‘free’ mmos.

What’s more surprising for me is that you can’t get a refund from the game time. How is this even possible? The answer I got from the ticket is that I can’t get a refund if I used more than one day. (Seems one calender day is fine.) I re-asked about 3-month 6-month sub again, and if that’s also the case, it’s really shocking. I mean, can people actually play the game that long and regualrly?

This subscription-based system is an old method of the time when you can get everything in-game. Yeah, it still can be justified only if Blizz can keep in-game quality very good so that you don’t need to buy cash shop things. But at the moment whoever whenever can wear fairy ugly wings, I think the game quality is gone.

If you want to see what cosmetic microtransaction nonsense is really like, checkout the amount of DLC costumes for Dead or Alive 5 on Steam.

If this is how you react to one overly cute outfit on the Blizz store, looking at Koei Tecmo’s shenanigans would make your heads explode.

I try :relaxed:

I think It’s just a two part double disservice. Content that should be in the game, but we’re actually being charged for it as well…that’s just how I see it anyway. If it was a free to play game or something? I’d 100% be fine with it, though.

Except they did, Blizzard had to come out and tell everyone they weren’t going to add anymore transmogs and that they were just testing to see how it would work…and for 10 years they didn’t.

But it should be something we can obtain in-game through fun quests. It’d be like paying for a luxury vehicle and them saying “Oh if you don’t NEED automatic locking doors, but if you want them It’s just a little more anyway”

They’re not charging a sub fee and expansion fees?

Yep, they did it one time and had to announce they weren’t going to add anymore due to massive backlash they recieved.

Don’t watch him, I actually hate him.

I know, I have it. I’m upset that they’re adding transmog again after they said they weren’t going to 10 years ago…

I know, I personally hate him and thinks he’s obnoxious as anything.

Cosmetics in the shop havent been added in a long time. Its just prevalent now because its being done again. If more of this kind of stuff is happening then people have the right to complain about it.

It is selling the playerbase short. We pay for sub and for expansions which is more funding than any other game I know. They’re cutting content and people like you are defending it when it does nothing but hurt the game.

Negativity is warranted in this case. I disagree with many things that he says. I saw this on the front screen of bnet. not because some idol told me to complain about it. Maybe people dislike when something they’re passionate about is preyed upon.

I find it funny the one who is defending predatory monetary practices is also saying that the devs should silence criticism because you disagree with them.

Its content that could have been added to the game to provide content in one of the worst droughts ever. Also you are trolling. There is no way a human being can be so dull.

Or…we could voice our disdain like we’re doing now. Telling people “just quit then” after they’ve supported a company who didn’t have such terrible practices in the past and has slowly been pushing more and more things that customers have to pay for is kind of silly.

So they just wouldn’t make the content at all, then? I doubt it…

Something no company should be trying to imitate…

I doubt it, that’s why It’s so hilarious to see people saying “But it’s free” or “I’m actually saving money by spending more”
Then admit that they don’t constantly play but like to stay subbed “because It’s nice to be subscribed just in case”

Yup!

Exactly and what happens when they start adding things that aren’t ugly? And as ugly as they are you can tell time and effort was spent on making them. They’re the only helmet in the game that has ear holes that are adjusted for every race…

Almost 456? Insane. But the game doesn’t have a subscription fee? I’d be praising them for adding in cosmetics that people then have the CHOICE of whether they want to buy or not.

Regardless, we shouldn’t be praising them for “not being that bad yet”

It’s sad because I have no doubt that if the original creators were still in control of Blizzard we’d have better quality content and none of these extra charges for armor skins and toys…

Lets hope wow never becomes that. Lets hope that voices are heard.

The original creators still want to get paid. Which means they’d move the model that will make them the most money and cause the least fuss. Its a single transmog set. One I suspect I will never own. I don’t care that it exists and neither should you.

They also respected the fan base a lot more than the people in control now though and that’s a fact.

Which is why the players, like myself and like everyone who fussed 10 years ago when they tried doing this are fussing once again. They already cut thousands of employees, cut corners on an expansion to save money…why can’t the player base just let them realize they can’t just screw up by trying to max profits instead of gouging the player base to make up for losses?

Literally what people said when they introduced the first mount, too… there’s a transmog tab. They wouldn’t add a tab if they weren’t planning on adding more to it…and even the fact that they added one is bad enough.

You don’t care the game’s going in a worse direction, that’s fine. But you can’t tell other people we should share your opinion when we’re clearly not ever going to.

I can’t find any proof of this. And they weren’t added over 10 years ago. They were added 7 years ago. Can you provide a link to this statement?

I’d have to search to find it, but if you just find the wowhead page announcement about the release of the helmets one of the quotes in the comments “Typical blizzard focusing on making more and more money rather than making the game better seriously blizz disappopints oone update after another makes me sick”

“Well, people thought htose helms were oging to be part of the legendary quest.”

“Epic looking helmets… but not worth real cash. Not at all”

They definitely faced backlash about it, but trying to find their response about not adding anymore will be harder.

I’ve been searching. I can’t seem to find any news article about it. I tried Wowhead and Wowpedia and Google. I’m not finding links to articles or statements. I even tried searching for blue posts from MMO Champion.

And I don’t really care what Wowhead user comments say. It’s always been the same from the vocal minority. I just want to know what Blizzard said, if it’s true.

Okay, about this… maybe you don’t like it but I have personal standards that I can accept both subscription & tmog cash shop.

  1. fit for the WoW theme and class/race fantasy (from cloth to plate)
  2. keep in-game tmog quality and variety well (e.g. Arathi WF tmog)
  3. no stat-added
  4. no specific NPC tmog

The ugly wing is wrong from the start lol

I mean, how can you say they’re a minority if they stopped blizz in the past from making more transmogs available in the cash shop?

Yeah, I would love to find it myself to show that voicing disdain on the topic worked in the past and hopefully it will work again this time.

The closest I was able to find that even remotely backs up her statement were posts made 5 years after the helms were sold. When blizzard announced they were retiring the 3 helm transmogs off the shop along with 3 pets and were selling all 6 items as part of a bundle.

But they didn’t stop transmogs. We have one. And I still am not finding proof of the statement anywhere.

And voicing disdain probably won’t do anything. It hasn’t done anything. The shop is still there.

I’m going to read back through more of this thread.

Oh, they just did that last year, right? And that was just to clean out the shop for new things I thought.

2018 I believe.

I can afford it, sure, but I really don’t want to be forced to pay a premium sub price, expansion fees and now have to spend real money when they make cool items that should be in the game and put them in the shop…

Half the people are saying it’s fine because “Oh it’s free” well, the next one won’t necessarily be free. That’s like saying “Mounts in the store are fine because I got a free one, one time with a 6 month sub”

They did for 7 years they didn’t make another one…

It did, they stopped making transmog items in the shop for 7 years. If people’s outrage didn’t stop them, you really think they wouldn’t have put more transmog items in the shop? Meanwhile over that time adding a slew of mounts, pets, and now toys as well…? Let’s be real.

Most of it’s just people disagreeing and harassing me, honestly.
