Since elitist players have driven so many casuals players away from the game with their bad attitudes and controlling ways, blizzard needed to do something to bring them back and this is a good way to do so.
The elitist players love raiding for gear because it is the one place they can control others by making them jump through hoops to get into the raid and get good gear.
I feel alot of them are really upset that they cannot charge others for gear anymore via raid carries. That is all this is about.
Same reason I use to raid; Because I want to raid and enjoy playing with the people I’m raiding with. On the other side of the coin; wouldn’t having more people with higher gear levels make it easier for the guild to get people to raid with? If everyone is requiring 4XX+, and more people (after months of grinding) can meet that requiremet, you have more recruits to pick from.
IMO, Gear is a means to an end. Killing the boss is the accomplishment. If anyone can get the gear, doesn’t that make killing the boss even more “epeen worthy” because even with the gear so many can’t do it?
I never looked at high end raiders as “I want that gear”, I looked at them as “they killed so and so”… the respect was earned from what they did, not what they wore.
Not directed at anyone in particular, but a lot of this cries of egos pivoting on pixels. People don’t want to play the game to have fun, they want to play to hold it over others they don’t find “worthy”, and if you’re not a 37/37 heroic fishing you’re not allowed to have an epic pole no matter how much grind you do… reminds me a lot of the forums when the badge vendors hit TBC.
Epics you can buy from grinding heroics? BLASPHEMY! YOU NEED TO RAID!
Even though you were grinding every heroic, every day, and the raiders still had better gear.
Edit:
Correct.
We do.
Not how this works. Not how any of this works.
We have the same access to the same gear… if we do the same content.
This just gives us a way to catch up so we can join that content.
Nope. A lot of people raid for gear. If they can get heroic raid gear by doing trivial content they won’t raid. Not to mention normal raid ilvl gear was already easily obtainable through emissaries and WQs, and that would easily be enough. In the end skill and experience matter more than gear to a raid team/leader.
I afk /dance on top of a mailbox every afternoon. Blizzard should hand me welfare that caters to my playstyle. I pay the same sub so if i want to /dance in town i should get those leet purplez for my hard work
Its been a complaint of casuals since vanilla and blizzard has capitulated fully in this xpac. Unless they change it I think this might be the last xpac for me. That is unless the next xpac is amazing but I doubt it will be.
It still is, but then you farm it for at least another three months before the next raid comes out. Otherwise downing it once would be sufficient and you would never go back in there.
Yeah but it isn’t quite the same. It becomes more about the gear as time goes on. Of course, the games I played gear was a means to an end rather than the end of your means.
To me gear is preparing for the future. Do I need it to kill a boss? Not really, but getting it will make me ready for the next tier which will most certainly need it in the beginning.
Its not narcissistic at all. Why do you need better gear if you’re killing quest mobs? Why do you deserve rewards for doing nothing?
Harder content requires better gear. Farming 10 boars in a forest doesn’t require better gear and it takes away from the accomplishments of people who have put time and effort into improving their character and their game play.
It’s this new participation trophy society that will breed a generation of entitled losers who never had to work for anything in their life. I’m sure the world won’t suffer for that mindset at all.
