Previous to Azerite gear swapping to be optimal we had to:
-Legendary swapping when switching specs / talents. We had to swap sometimes 4 pieces just for 1 fight.
-Enchants/Gems swapping
-Reforging everything
-carry multiple sets because they didn’t swap.
Carrying multiple pieces of gear was always the only way of optimizing our different specs/talent choices.
If you don’t want to optimize everything you then choose to take lesser traits/stats in order to do the same thing without having to struggle with swapping (almost) everything.
If you want to be “competitive” in mythic then you should go and spend millions and millions of gold in buying all the best BOE, food, buffs and crafting mats like Method did to be world first.
Traits on gear are bad in some cases, but that it the problem of traits, not the reforging cost of the best Azerite gear available to you.
I would guess because they want you to play their game? Why would they let you be fully geared in a spec you never play with?
Being good on a spec means 2 things, you played with it long enough to know how it works and all the abilities/spells that spec has and how to use them in many situations. And gear that comes when you do the first part.
Blizzard, can i see ur bags full of azerite gear? Mine is full of copies of the same chest and helms. I just can’t believe you still think this system is good. Its total garbage.
Why do people keep bringing up vanilla and 50g respec? If the system used to be bad, do we continue to be lazy and punish players just because it used to be worse in the past? This constant comparison to vanilla to dismiss legitimate criticism is so vapid and lazy, that it makes the game insufferable as well as the community.
If you understood how horrible the system used to be, shouldn’t you be pushing for a better system? There is no reason for devs to punish people who want to enjoy multiple roles - the more diversity the better.
-Set pieces in past expansions were an exception to the standard rules when it comes to items. It felt odd to need multiple of the exact same item to cover multiple specs with a set bonus. Ion Hazzikostas
Well I am carrying a bunch of the same item in my bag right now because I don’t want to reforge every time I am going to change specs. So are we expected to carry a bunch of the same or not?
This. I can’t come up with a logical reason. Even the “time played argument” doesn’t make sense - if anything the system works against this argument because people get so frustrated and don’t even want to play.
Imagine if the US made African American votes count as 4/5 of a vote - and their response was: “well it’s better than it used to be when you didn’t get a vote, and still better than when your vote only counted for 3/5 of a vote.”
I think that people mention Vanilla over and over again because it WASN’T a broken system and it still isn’t. What players liked in Vanilla and still enjoy now is your “specialization”. These are specs that people used to work hard on and still do. In fact it is less work now to work on an off-spec than it was in many of the older expansions. To be quite honest it really sounds like people have been spoiled with hand outs and dont want to work for the gear they need for the specialization they’ve chosen. They would rather the game change for them instead and not have to work to go from over geared restoration druid to over geared guardian druid. Its ridiculous. These are natures of the choices you make. Thats what this mmo is. You’re taking a whole element out of the game when simply pressing a button optimizes your character for a role without any of the work. Eventually people are going to complain that their gear score doesn’t carry over from class to class and then you’re going to have blizzard change everyone’s ilvl to be account-wide. What is next, are our alts going to have the same azerite neck levels as our mains? Oh wait…
I think if people were able to “work for their gear (azerite)” just like their trinkets/rings/weapons through busting their butts in M+'s to be able to target a specific azerite piece - this wouldn’t be as big of an issue.
Rolling the dice to see what azerite piece you get for your weekly cache/emissary quest/future vendor purchase isn’t really “working” for it. It’s just chance. That’s one of the biggest issues.
If we’re allowed to work towards something directly - a lot of the issues here would go away.
If we had azerite traits work like tier sets in Legion so that we’re not punished when we switch specs to help out a raid/dungeon run - that would also help with the issues.
No one is asking to do less work when it comes to earning loot - we’re asking for less randomness when it comes to gear that has a weekly cap on it and less restrictions/punishment when we’re willing to take on a different role in order to help out the community by tanking or healing.
See I have to stop you there. You are talking about a MYTHIC raid/dungeon. A raid/dungeon that drops gear meant to be the top end best gear you can get for doing the hardest possible content. But the nature of this game in raiding has ALWAYS been that you have a CHANCE to get something. You aren’t guaranteed the loot you’re looking to get. That’s what makes getting what you wanted that much more special and satisfying. And in fact its better than it was before. Because now you don’t have to even roll for it. So really this just reinforces my argument that people are spoiled by loot. People that are complaining and want more are the ones taking the epicness out of getting an epic. Heck 90% of the people here that played last expansion were getting LEGENDARIES WEEKLY! THAT IS INSANE!
Correct - but if I go into a dungeon, I know what loot I have a shot at. I can refine my chances and target a particular piece by working and grinding through that dungeon multiple times.
Emissary quests give you a shot at ANY azerite gear across all dungeons, layered by a shot across 3 item slots. The difference in chance is huge.
I’m not saying we should go into a dungeon and on completion be able to choose from any piece from all dungeons if it’s completed.
I expect the same as if I was shooting for a trinket/weapon that dropped from that dungeon. A shot at a refined list of loot. There’s still chance involved - but I’m not fighting against huge layers of RNG on top of the dungeon loot table.
This is how dungeon loot has always functioned - which I’m ok with. It still allows players to work for the piece they want - whether it’s a ring/trinket/weapon etc.
I don’t want it handed to me - but I’d like to be able to “target” a piece no different than all of the other non-azerite gear pieces.
Could we not solve 90% of this issue by having the choice of a spec-specific trait (that would change when we change specs) and a non spec-specific trait instead of having 3 spec-specific traits and 1 non-spec specific trait like we do now.
My guy, you are talking about legendaries. You SHOULDN’T be getting them hardly at all. And getting 3-5 duplicates comes with the territory of what you’re doing! You are farming for gear. You are working towards something. Every one of us thats been playing for years understand this is what the grind is all about. You have bad moments and good moments. And because you have so many of those bad moments, (not getting the piece, losing a roll, getting ninja’d) the moments you get that piece of gear are so much more epic.
I don’t usually post, but here goes. The older systems had items that had extra effects that mattered. This new system:
Neck: All specs
Cloak: Optimized Secondary Stat
Bracer: Optimized Secondary Stat
Gloves: Optimized Secondary Stat
Belt: Optimized Secondary Stat
Weapon: Optimized Secondary Stat
Rings: Optimized Secondary Stat
Trinkets: Spec specific. You have to look this up at Bloodmallet.
Chest, Shoulders, Helm: Generic option in the outer ring is significantly worse than the spec specific option. Middle ring then disables that narrow path, and lets you pick the Trait for the wrong spec, if you’d like. Awesome. Inner ring is just picking how you want to live longer. That ring is honestly the closest we get to what we were told the Azerite system would be. My warlock prefers health regen, instead of a shield. However, moving out of the fire faster could also help. It’s an interesting choice. The Outer and middle rings are not.
What we were told for the Azerite system is that we’d be able to customize based on our play-style. Like AoE vs single target. Or maybe a buff to one particular Talent vs another, depending on play-style. What we got was a choice between vanilla ice cream, or a bigger bowl of vanilla ice cream.
Also, the Anniversary raid bosses drop a necklace. An ilvl 350 necklace. that is completely wrong for this expansion. I would be interested to see exactly how many people are breaking the Azerite system by equipping that neck piece. This is not something that Blizzard back in 2010 would have let happen.
What I would prefer is a system that lets me decide what to use the armor for, dps, healing, or tanking. Then, have all of the Azerite Traits actually relate to that spec, with actual interesting choices. Better yet, just make drops that are locked to the spec that you set for loot. If I want a tanking chest piece, thats what I should get, with an entire Azerite Trait layout that lets me make important decisions, within that spec.
