Stop Punishing Players Who Have Dual Roles

What if reforging was more, allowing secondary stats to be adjusted, and picking any azerite traits? Like transmogrification the cost could be associated with how complex or what is being reforged. For example: tank running already has BiS (currently before 8.1) shoulders, missing one azerite traits and willing to pay 1k gold to switch to that, picking from pool of all traits not just what was on gear. Decides to min/max for versatility and paying 200g for that. Now the item is perfect for his gear set. Keeps looking for another shoulder for offspec but has a lower item lvl shoulder 355 that is also reforged for DPS with exact azerite traits and secondary stats but cost only 500g because lower ilvl and less changes. Have to balance out the cost but this would enable folks to have the exact azerite traits they prefer, or raiders to pay more for specialization that helps them in role. Change my mind!

“could be worse!”
as it seems thats wow’s new thing

Isn’t this azerite system the same as the old way of spec swapping pay a chunk of gold to swap your talents over. Remember how you got rid of that and let us swap between all of specs for free in a major city.

The entire art seems to be lazy. Instead of multiple UNIQUE sets of armor all plate looks the same, all mail looks the same etc. I know transmog exists but now but that’s a lame way of saying we don’t care about the art on our gear. make it all look terrible then they can just xmog it out.

I’m only 7 of 8 h but you should farm more gear then if you are doing mythic. Or do you want handouts; the penalty should be there.

Man, you’re doing all you can to justify this steaming turd aren’t you? Taking away class tier sets and replacing it with this crap is like going from driving a 2018 Honda Civic, to driving a Model T. It’s a huge downgrade, and unfairly penalizes those classes that can fill different roles. It’s basically a hybrid tax all over again, but in a literal sense this time, because you actually have to spend gold pure dps classes don’t have to.

You either don’t believe the crap you’re peddling, or you’re dumber than a bag or rocks.

So what i understand is that players want to be able to switch multiple traits in Azerite gear for optimisation, but they don’t want to switch gear for the same reasons?

So what about your trinkets and rings and all the other gear that probably don’t have to optimal secondary stats?

I’ve played most of my WoW years carrying at least 2 sets of gear in my characters even when multiple specs were a hassle. And that was with bags with less than 15 slots each!

If i play as a healer (my main spec currently) i focus all my loot filters and rerolls on that spec. If i want to gear Enhancement then i keep what my Main spec doesn’t want. Did that with azerite gear from lvl 110 up to lvl 120.

If you want to gear a spec, play that spec and focus loot of it.
You can’t be the best at playing a spec if you don’t focus energy/time on it. That will always be true.

They aren’t punishing you. You are punishing yourself. You can get off spec gear to do another role. You don’t have to constantly swap Azerite gear around.

Because if a Fire mage want to go play Frost he doesn’t have to switch gear and traits to be optimal?

All those claiming the cost are way too high are always saying it’s because they want the best most optimal traits/gear.

It’s the same for everybody, and it was the same since WoW launched, if you want to be the most optimal you have to struggle to do it.

Or just have Tier sets
 problem solved. Wasn’t that easy?

Launch was 14 years ago now, they’ve implemented numerous systems that had moved toward allowing diversity in a characters spec choice (Dual spec, respecing, reforging, stats swap from int/strength/agi, trinkets with dmg/heal procs, tier swapping specs). The issues people are not understanding is they removed the punishment for wanting to play the CLASS not the SPEC, but then re-added it in when they legitimately didn’t really need it. Why does it ramp up limitlessly? Why not cap it at like 500g? It’s just a gold sync for players who WANT to play thier best, it’s the entire point of an RPG is to be as itemized as possible. It feels GOOD to perform BETTER, but feels BAD for being punished when trying to do so.

My issue with this is feelings and convenience.

The system just feels bad. Having to keep 8 different azerite chests because one trait can be better depending on different situations is annoying to the point where you eventually just give up. To which you may say “well then the difference isn’t that big” and yeah maybe it isn’t, and you rationally know that. But you also know that you aren’t maximizing your potential because the system is just so clunky.

It’s especially annoying as a dps player who occasionally tanks. Like it’s the end of the week, I just want to tank a quick 10 or 11 for the weekly or help a friend or whatever. Previously I could just switch to my tank spec and be pretty much okay to do most content. Optimized? No, but good enough. Now I need to keep an entire gear set with tank traits (that may be competing with my dps set) just so I can run a 20 min 10 because tanks without azerite traits feel squishy as hell.

You guys said numerous times you don’t really want people switching traits around, but the solution you are giving us is to switch traits around just do it by keeping alternative or even duplicate items.

So, and I’m hesitant to admit this but I’ve spent thousands on reforging. Why? Because I wanted to test out different specs and abilities and even though I had a few different pieces, I was having to reforge ones a few times to try things out. I realize that people are going to say sim it or there are sites for that. However, Sims don’t represent me or my abilities and I think there should be a way for me to test different things in game and not have to sink a massive amount of gold into doing so. It was a choice I made and I don’t regret it because it showed me what spec I was best at, even if that wasn’t the best simmed spec. But again, I shouldn’t have a ramp up cost punishment in order to be able to find these things out.

A flat rate to change traits is fine and no reason it shouldn’t be this way. On top of the multiplying costs, I have to wait a few days for them to lower. I have two choices to test different combinations out in real time. I either sink a lot of gold to change things and to be able to test them. Or, I make a few changes one day, wait a few days for the cost to go back down, then do it again and again wait. All because I wanted to try different combinations to see the effect outside of a sim or because pieces had good traits for multiple specs. Seems a bit ridiculous.

Has anyone seen a response from Blizzard as to the benefits gained from these restrictions?

Kind of the opposite.

We ALREADY have to switch between non azerite gear (but we can at least farm these through M+'s) - so don’t make us ALSO have to switch between azerite gear when changing specs (especially when we can’t farm/target a specific azerite gear piece).

It’s the Azerite gear not switching and reforge costs - NOT the non-azerite gear swapping.

Because bad balancing caused an influx of trait swapping that pushed players into high gold cost. People were even scared to delete the lowest ilvl of azerite armor because they were afraid one of those traits would be buffed to be BIS. On the other side, if you make them all similar then players don’t care about the system anymore because it particularly doesn’t matter and has no impact. Which would you rather have? Players striving to min max or for players to not care?

This wouldn’t be a problem if it wasn’t so hard to get a piece with good abilities. If there were less choices but you each piece had every ability and not just random slot machine chance to get a decent azerite piece then not being able to switch wouldn’t be a problem. Either they need to take ability randomness out or allow spec switching. Having both is what feels so punishing.

During prog I was changing daily to do M+ and had to respect the traits right before raid. My reforge cost was in the 300k-600k for the longest time. And to another blizz comment about having only another piece of gear for the os. You have any idea how many off pieces needed for a main spec in a prog guild? Not including those needed for another spec. This whole reforging cost and system is so wrong.

“It does get high if you are changing a lot for sure. The highest amount I ever paid was like 20 gold I think? Usually it’s at the 5g amount though. Does that feel high or am I missing something here?”

How condescending can that comment be?

It just seems backwards - their logic for azerite pieces. They decide to create armor that swaps between strength and intel depending on your specc, essentially eliminating your need for multiple sets.

Now, they want you to have multiple sets or pay to have one set. Well, why even have pieces that swap between stats depending on roles?

I think the issue gets worse when your class has multiple roles it can fill. Sometimes I would like the ability to change just one ring at a reduced cost when switching between feral and balance. But when switching a piece to guardian or resto (especially resto because it doesn’t really share traits with the other specs), it can easily cascade into switching traits on 9-12 pieces of gear in one go. Starting from base of 5 gp that can easily become 1,280 (9 swaps) to 10,240 (12 swaps). My alts don’t have as high of respec costs because 1) I generally only play one spec on them. 2) They have fewer specs and so fewer pieces. 3) Some of them only fill one role. 4) Some of them share traits better.

Personally, I did a combo of pvp, mythic+, raids. There is some switching involved. I found out only way I could get started on mythic+ was as a tank. As a tank I can a group within minutes. Tanks are almost useless in pvp. It is fun going in as a tank and having all horde players try to kill me. If you want to win and get honor you have to be a dps. PVP needs to be fixed, making every one have to same class specs. Farming Battle for Stormgarde, I got five 350 7th legion boots. Why do players get so many boots? Its not like soles ware out . The other great way is Call To Arms weekly. It can be hard on unbalanced servers, Illidan is 95% horde. It takes grouping up and maybe running more than one group at once, since it can’t be done as a raid. It would awesome if it was allowed to do it in a 40. That would make a epic battles.
