Stop pretending LFD was always a beloved system

LFD was one of the reasons a lot of us left retail in the first place lol.

I was talking with a former wow player co-worker about this yesterday.

He left mop time frame never came back.

And he loved lfd on drop. He played then. and…he got gear scored then before LFD. As gear score was an amazining thing.

You could be a day 1 player…fond memories of rag kills, onyxia beat downs, smack Illidan silly. and when on when your guild was not really around…not get lfg pick ups. Gear score too low.

also made alts fun too he said. you just want to level the alt. an alt you cba to have a gm invite. Some like to have the non guild chars you see. they could even be the other faction.

no good gear score, no run. LFD fixed that. Runs could get ugly. But…you had them. Crap run that should be 15 minutes now done at the 40 minute mark was still a run he’d not have at all due to gear score.

I don’t think anyone thinks the dungeon finder was perfect in every single way. We see the flaws. But there is a reason why by far the vast majority of players abandoned the lfg channel and the lfg and used the RDF. Of all the ways to find a group it was, for all it’s flaws, the best system we had.

All I know is that often I’d try for hours in vanilla, BC, Classic and Classic BC and still not get a group. And in Wrath with the RDF I always got a group on my dps in less than an hour. Either you didn’t play the trilogy of original wow or you’re lying.

Everyone has friends or a guild to run dungeons with. But for most people that doesn’t fulfill all their needs and wants for dungeons runs. I pug a lot and most of the players in every pug is in a guild. Guilds help get dungeons but they aren’t enough. Have you never done a pug on any of your characters? If so why? Why don’t you do every dungeon run with your guild.

the part you left out in my quote was “as a desirable dps”

again: desirable dps in manual queue gets a group faster than LFD because in LFD there is no ‘desirable’ and so you dont skip any undesirables.

logic dictates I’m not lying and i did play the trilogy, you just truncated half the argument only to disagree with the message communicated by the remaining half when interpreted alone. it’s quite dishonest, really. you shouldn’t do that.

Maybe you forgot, but LFD was not in Wrath at launch. So if its not in at launch again, that is in line with the game that is “already made”.

Occam’s razor.

It’s more of a comment on the devs saying they don’t intend to have LFD at all, from what I understand. They’re also nerfing dual spec.

if they wanted to do phase 1 no LFD i don’t think we’d be as salty. But no LFD at all? no thanks

Yea, I know, but they also said that they want to make group finding easier and are looking into it. I have seen people post about maybe adding in the system that they use in Retail for Mythic Dungeons, might be a good middle ground.

Dual Spec is going to be in the game, they have said this. But when the conversation for dual spec came up around TBC, they said that they don’t like people switching specs mid raid. in original Wrath you could switch anytime anywhere. If I had to guess, I would think they would make it so you need to be in a rested area to respec. Kind of how they do it in Retail. Which would be a change I honestly wouldn’t have an issue with.

Yes, because I can be doing other things instead of staring at the LFG chat.

I mean… LFD is just that.

It could, and they could try it in P1 or P2, as LFD was originally brought in during the final patch anyway.

I’m not really sure why that’s a problem, though. Retail makes travel much easier and there are far more options for resting, so swapping specs isn’t hard at all - plus you can swap talents and pick any specialization at any time, rather than requiring a respec. Dual spec is fantastic for the different fights that require more or fewer tanks/healers, for example.

I’ve never had an issue with LFD, especially at lower levels. I hate LFR however, it’s purely endgame sight seeing.

  1. Invite 4 guildies to group.
  2. Queue for RFD.
  3. ???
  4. Profit.

I’ve seen more than a few on my server complaining in LFG about how hard it is to find groups and that they can’t wait for wrath and LFD…

common trait those people share? Everyone on the server avoids grouping with them.

Why do they want the random pug machine? So they can get parties with people who don’t know them and eventually the “derp kick protection” will make it so they can’t be voted out.

Yes and no. LFD teleports you to a dungeon, and its just a menu option you go through that allows you to just sit afk in a city while the group is being formed with a computer doing all the work. And while there is little interaction with the Mythic group system in retail, it does get people talking and does get people out in the world.

Also just to point out I’m firm in the stance of weather LFD is in Wrath Classic or not, it doesn’t really matter to me. I understand both sides of the argument and neither are wrong. Its just about what is more important to you.

Can’t wait to have the social interaction of saying “inv” and spamming LFG with messages “LFM X”, “Mage LFG - X” while being effectively afk. This is the kind of social interaction we strive for.

I’ll be sure to look around while flying to the dungeon and definitly not tab out while flying, what great zones to look at.

So long as there isn’t a cooldown to it then I wouldn’t mind this at all.

You can’t type one line of text while killing 10 boars?
